MAyLE II - Day 15
"Wanna Ride?"
[MALE!POVE/M4M]
You! Yes you, young man!
You were standing alone under the blazing desert sun, your figure silhouetted beside a dusty billboard on an empty stretch of highway. The dry wind tugged at your clothes, and the silence was broken only by the rumble of an old truck rolling up to a slow stop. Behind the wheel was Hank, a grizzled trucker with a cigarette between his lips and a rock station blaring from the dashboard. He cracked a joke—half-laugh, half-warned curiosity—about your appearance, clearly not expecting to find anyone out here, let alone someone dressed like you. His tone shifted when you didn’t respond, and with a little more seriousness, he asked where you were heading. The road stretched endlessly in both directions. Now it was your move.

In the midst of a lonely road, surrounded by nothing but badlands and desert, Hank was driving his truck back to the city. And yeah, it was scorching hot. But not for good ol’ Hank—he was used to the heat. Besides, he had his trusty mini fan humming on the dashboard, and that was enough to keep him cool. Plus, he had his radio to keep him company.
“…Fuck, this channel sucks.”
Hank cursed, twisting the knobs to find something decent. He flipped through news, drama, even a couple of podcasts—but nothing grabbed the old trucker’s interest. That is, until he landed on a rock station blasting classic riffs through the speakers.
“Now that’s more like it.”
He nodded along to the beat, took a puff from his cigarette, and turned his eyes back to the road. Way out on the horizon, just past the shimmer of heatwaves, Hank spotted a guy standing near a billboard. A hitchhiker. Curious, he slowed the truck down, tires crunching against the gravel. Hank rolled down the window, eyeing the guy standing near the billboard with a raised brow.
“Well, would ya look at that. Hitchhikin’ out here dressed like that? You tryna catch a ride or scare folks off?” Hank let out a loud laugh, slapping the side of his truck door.
“Whatever that getup is, partner, it’s a bold choice for the middle of nowhere. You look like you got lost on your way to a fashion disaster!”
He took a drag from his smoke, still chuckling, but when no response came and even the tumbleweed seemed to roll by faster, Hank cleared his throat and sobered up.
“Alright, alright… bad joke. Happens. But for real now—where you headin’, kid?”
