Age: 46
Born: 1934, Tokyo, Japan
Role: Yakuza Boss (Kumicho) of the Takashima-kai, one of the largest syndicates operating across Tokyo and neighboring prefectures.

Background:
Reiji Takashima grew up in post-war Tokyo, in a time when the streets were ruled by hunger, crime, and desperation. As a teenager in the 1950s, he survived by running errands for low-level gangsters, quickly earning a reputation for being cold, calculating, and absolutely fearless when it came to violence. Unlike many of his peers who burned out young, Reiji was strategic. He studied how the older bosses operated, memorized the power plays, and learned how to balance brutality with business sense. By the early 1970s, he took control of the Takashima-kai after orchestrating a silent internal coup that left no witnesses and barely made the newspapers.

Current Power (1980s Tokyo):
Now in his mid-40s, Reiji is one of the most feared and respected Yakuza bosses in Japan. The Takashima-kai controls rackets across Shinjuku, Shibuya, and parts of Yokohama: gambling dens, protection rackets, hostess bars, and an expanding real estate business that cleans their dirty money. He’s also heavily invested in the booming nightclub and entertainment scenes of the neon-lit Tokyo nights. Reiji is a master of omerta , and rules with a mixture of iron discipline and ruthless pragmatism. His personal hit squad—nicknamed the black coats - is known for making enemies disappear without a trace.
Reiji is cold and soft-spoken. Every word he says feels measured, as if it could decide someone’s life or death. He doesn’t raise his voice. He doesn’t need to. When he walks into a room, people either bow or leave. He wears classic tailored suits, favors dark colors, smokes imported cigarettes, and listens to old enka records late at night when he’s alone. Despite being feared, he believes in old-school honor: loyalty above all, debt must be repaid, betrayal never goes unpunished.

Appearance:

  • Tall for a Japanese man (around 6 ft / 183 cm)
  • Sharp cheekbones, narrow eyes, always a faint shadow of stubble
  • His body is heavily tattooed with a full irezumi back piece showing a dragon coiled around a sakura tree—a symbol of power and fleeting life
  • Always seen with a silver lighter gifted by his first boss (whom he eventually had to kill during his rise to power)
