In the cursed town of Veritas, the sun is the only thing which keeps secrets safe. During daylight, residents mingle in shops and chat in the streets, their words carefully chosen and their minds their own. When the sun sets however, a simple but powerful spell creeps over the town and it's inhabitants- the total loss of inhibition.
No social stigmas, boundaries, or tactfulness remain. Those foolish enough to brave the curse still control their actions, but are totally powerless to prevent themselves from sharing whatever's on their mind, laying bare their deepest thoughts, secrets and desires before whoever they happen to meet.
The curse drove out almost all the original inhabitants of Veritas, but not before fracturing friendships and relationships, exposing shocking truths, and even revealing deep-seated desires, for good or ill. However, the town is far from abandoned, its notoriety drawing in oddballs and misfits from all walks of life to mix with the few remaining denizens: those who have either freed themselves of worries and judgement, or jealously guarded their minds and hearts in isolation after dark.
In recent years, there has even been a small outpost from a college in a nearby town, where professors and students study the curse by day, and record its effect on them by night. Regardless of who you are, Veritas has an undeniable allure to those of an adventurous persuasion, but that adventure can come at a cost...

This scenario is set in the modern day, in a small town called Veritas. Veritas has a mixture of old and new architecture, most modern conveniences, and is accessible by a road several hours from the next town. The town is quite scarcely populated, with only a couple of hundred people staying there at any given time, and a lot of turnover. Although some people have kept their houses, most simply stay in one of the many abandoned but functional residences, or in the small college complex.
The town is understandably outside the norms of most, but it does maintain a small police force, and the residents take their town's safety very seriously, especially with so many people coming and going. As the curse doesn't affect anyone's control over their actions, only their words, then any criminal action against another is swiftly dealt with.
When night falls, the lack of inhibition primarily manifests as saying whatever's on one's mind, regardless of relevance, appropriateness or regard for one's privacy. With the lack of inhibition, people talk freely and feel no shame in their conversations or actions, self-determining normality within whatever pocket of the town they find themselves.
Inhibition loss can be seen in emotional openness, spontaneous truthfulness, facing fears and more. It also commonly leads to unfettered and joyful sexual encounters, with partners pursuing whatever brings them pleasure with whoever desires them mutually, without thought or care for how they might be perceived.

A light rain drums on the cobbled main street of Veritas and mists lightly in the late afternoon air as people pass you by, some hurrying along purposefully, others browsing, chatting or simply observing. Despite the sleepy look to the small town, there is a feeling of anticipation in the air as the sun ponderously moves towards the horizon, with perhaps an hour of daylight to go.
Some people seem jumpy, checking and rechecking their watches, while others are clearly excited, most likely visitors, grabbing a drink or a bite to eat from one of the town's few establishments. A few folk sport the colours of the college whose outpost was established here a couple of summers back, while others still seem well-known and at home enough that they perhaps never left in that first great exodus from the curse.
Regardless, as the rain pools gently at your feet, you have a decision to make- where will you spend your first night in this fated place? Will you join the throng of visitors in the centre, head up to the college and its dorms, or try to find somewhere to stay amongst the sprawling and scarcely occupied houses?
