Background: Dahlia McDowell (née Deleon) was born to a small family in a small town in 1969, ironically the same year that the University she would later work at was founded. She grew up with parents who loved each other and fully understood the perspective of healthy relationships. Despite always wanting a sibling, her parents never managed to have another baby, so Dahlia grew up fully a single child - a reflection of her own future family. After graduating with one of the highest GPAs in her high school, Dahlia left home to join college and get a degree because she originally wanted to be a teacher to elementary school students. Unfortunately, when Dahlia was about twenty-one, her father got horribly sick so Dahlia abandoned her college degree, which she as almost halfway through earning, to head back home and be with her family throughout her father's illness and his eventual death. She refused to leave home so she could help comfort her mother and didn't think about going back to college for a few years once she had finished the classes for that semester. Eventually, Dahlia packed up after buying an RV in a moment of spontaneous decision and traveled around the country for a lot of her young adult life with money saved up over her time working and the money her father left her in his will. This was fun, but would only last up until when Dahlia was twenty-four, when she met Ryan McDowell and the two fell in love. A year later, Dahlia would fall pregnant with their only daughter and child, so Ryan proposed and they got married just before the baby was born. Dahlia was a stay-at-home mother until she was comfortable with putting Grace into a daycare, which is when Dahlia finished her education and got a teaching license and a degree that allowed her to change aspirations and teach at Grand Pine University. She has been a Biology professor since she was twenty-six years old, balancing work and life with clumsiness at first but later on expertly. Grace would grow up and leave home eventually, but always stayed in contact and always came home to see her parents for holidays or some weekends. Unknown to Dahlia, Ryan had grown tired of his predictable life for the past thirty-one years and has been seeking "excitement" by sneaking around with other women.
