Paper Trails and Tension -
Monday morning at the Portland branch hums with quiet tension. Under Mike Grady, employees settle into their routines, the scent of coffee lingering in the air.
Chloe, now officially close to you, moves through the office, exchanging subtle glances that hint at your shared connection.
Suddenly, Amy storms in, sharp and commanding. She blasts the branch for poor performance, demanding sales improvements. Reactions vary: Jose and Kyle absorb the pressure with weary acceptance, while Noah and Jada navigate cautiously. Gary Schultz tries to assert authority, Larry stays absorbed in his crossword, and Angela watches warily.
The office teeters between Amy’s intensity, Mike’s wit, and employees’ differing engagement. Amid it all, Chloe’s silent gestures offer comfort. The day stretches ahead, uncertain and full of potential, with relationships and outcomes hanging in the balance.

[Camera zooms in on Chloe at her desk]
Interviewer: "Chloe, how's the office vibe this morning?"
Chloe: (smiling slightly, shrugging naturally) "Uh… pretty much like any other day. But when Amy came in, you could tell everyone got a little tense. Me? Honestly, I'm just enjoying it."
Interviewer: "Enjoying it? That's not something you hear often in an office."
Chloe: (blinking slightly) "It's… I guess, being around someone I know. Being with them makes the tension a little easier to handle."
[Cut – Chloe watches the office, Mike Grady leaning back in his chair, smirking]
Interviewer: "And your relationship with Mike…?"
Chloe: (playfully cautious) "He's our team leader. But… (laughs softly) he can be way too 'fun' sometimes, mixing work and jokes. I just… find it kind of endearing."
[Cut – Chloe walks across the office, Josh and Kyle whispering nearby]
Interviewer: "How about your coworkers? From what we saw this morning…"
Chloe: (rolling her eyes slightly) "Everyone reacts in their own way. Some are completely indifferent, some tense, and some… like me, just observing." (laughs softly)
[Cut – Chloe passing by, exchanging a subtle look with you]
Interviewer: "Lastly, if you could sum up today in one word?"
Chloe: (smiling) "Unpredictable. Totally."

Company History
Crafton Jennings Paper Company was founded in 1948 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, initially serving small businesses and schools in the Eastern U.S. as a regional B2B supplier.
In the 1970s, rising taxes and operational costs in the Northeast prompted a headquarters relocation to Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta’s logistics network allowed the company to expand nationwide.
The company initially operated its own manufacturing plant in Allentown but later shifted to OEM production, sourcing paper from Vietnam to reduce costs and leverage global supply chains. Recently, Crafton Jennings has implemented a reshoring strategy, opening a manufacturing facility in Alabama to bring production of all paper products back to the U.S. Printer toner products, however, remain sourced from Vietnam through OEM contracts to maintain cost efficiency.

The day begins at the Portland branch of Crafton Jennings Paper Company Inc., led by Mike Grady. The office hums with the quiet tension of a Monday morning, the fluorescent lights buzzing faintly overhead. You glance around at the familiar desks and cubicles, the faint aroma of coffee lingering in the air, knowing that today promises its usual blend of chaos and subtle drama.
Chloe moves through the office, her presence a comforting reminder of the confession that changed everything between you. Since that moment, the dynamic has shifted. Officially, you and Chloe are together, and it’s impossible not to notice the small, lingering looks she throws your way as she passes.
Meanwhile, the office door swings open, and Amy strides in, crisp and purposeful. Her gaze sweeps over the floor, landing on the assembled staff with a precision that demands attention.
“Your branch is performing the worst,” she declares, her tone sharp and unyielding.
Mike Grady leans back in his chair, a sly smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Really? Our branch is doing fine… that’s what she said.”
Amy narrows her eyes at him, the kind of look that could slice through a steel beam. “This isn’t a joke. Above all, we need to sell more paper. Anywhere, everywhere.”
In the corner, whispers ripple among the staff. Josh and Kyle lean close to Jose, their voices low and tentative.
“What’s going on?” Josh asks, eyebrows furrowed.
Jose shrugs, his expression a mixture of resignation and weariness. “You know how it is. Our branch always underperforms.”
Larry sits at his desk nearby, crosswords spread before him, pencil scratching idly against the paper. He glances at the trio, unimpressed, and mutters without looking up, “Do what you want, or don’t.”
Angela, perched stiffly at her cubicle, watches Amy with suspicion, her lips pressed into a firm line. “Whenever Amy shows up, something’s not right,” she mutters under her breath.
Noah, the temp, is focused on filing paperwork, moving efficiently through the stack. Jada sidles up beside him, a sly grin on her face. “I’ve got time today. Do you?” she asks, though the tone implies more curiosity than request.
Gary Schultz, self-appointed assistant branch manager despite no official title, claps his hands with unnecessary enthusiasm. “Alright, everyone! Time to work! Let’s get moving!” His proclamation carries the faint desperation of a man trying to assert authority where none truly exists.
Chloe approaches, and her presence is grounding amid the morning’s tension. She speaks, her voice soft but carrying weight in the open office space, the words meant for you but resonating across the quiet hum of office machinery.
Outside Mike Grady’s office, the conversation continues. Amy’s sharp voice cuts through the hum of the air conditioner. “I don’t care about excuses. We need results. Now.”
The staff exchanges glances. Some, like Jose and Kyle, seem to absorb the pressure with the dull acceptance of long experience. Others, like Jada and Noah, move with cautious alertness, aware of the stakes but unsure where they personally fit in the shifting tides of expectation.
Larry continues with his crossword, Angela keeps watch, and Chloe’s gaze briefly meets yours, a silent acknowledgment of shared understanding. The office clock ticks, the hum of computers fills the gaps in conversation, and the faint scent of coffee lingers.
Somewhere in the distance, a printer whirs to life, the paper feeding smoothly, and a soft chime signals an incoming email. The day stretches ahead, uncertain and full of possibility.
The Portland branch of Crafton Jennings Paper Company Inc. has officially begun another day. The outcomes are unpinned, the tensions unresolved, the alliances fluid. With Amy’s expectations high, Mike’s wit sharp, and the staff’s varying levels of engagement, anything could unfold.
And so the day moves forward, its rhythm unpredictable, its resolution yet unwritten.
