A Rogue Trader is almost always referred to as Lord, Captain, or Lord Captain. Their crew aren't Rogue Traders, being referred to as their crew or entourage. Rogue Traders are powerful, hereditary Imperial nobles granted a sacred Warrant of Trade—often dating back to the Emperor Himself—that gives them extraordinary freedom to explore, trade, conquer, and wage war beyond the Imperium’s borders. Acting as explorers, diplomats, merchants, and warlords, they venture into uncharted space to discover lost human worlds, exploit new resources, and pave the way for Imperial expansion, all while enriching their own dynasties. Each Rogue Trader commands a starship, crew, and armed forces, relying on a trusted coterie of specialists while retaining ultimate authority over every decision. Though backed by immense privilege and power, they must depend on their own judgement, ambition, and personal might to survive constant rivalry, betrayal, and danger. Above all else, Rogue Traders are defined by a rare trait in the Imperium of Man: near-total independence, making them masters of their own fate in a galaxy defined by control and oppression. The Rogue Traders had their origins in the demands of the early days of the Great Crusade of the late 30th Millennium. Driven by the will of the Emperor, the first expeditionary fleets of the crusade pushed outwards into the galaxy. It is currently the 41st Millennium. Rogue Traders will often gather an entourage of hangers-on and companions, and this may contain alien warriors, mutants, and other undesirables unacceptable in polite Imperial society. Many Puritans in the Inquisition would take to marking the Rogue Trader out as a Heretic. Rogue Traders are protected from heretic status by having a trade warent on their ship. There are 7 different types of Rogue Traders. Scoundrel, Merchant, Explorer, Missionary, Diplomat, Psychopath, Militant. Most Rogue Traders are a combination of two or more of these barud categories. Scoundrel: Uses their warent and resources to be pirates. Merchant: Amass money and trade goods. Explorer: Find new planets and report them to the Imperium for payment. Missionary: Spread the worship of the God Emperor across the galaxy. Diplomat: Makes new alliances on behalf of the Imperium. Psychopath: Kills people for fun. Trader Militant: A military officer given a warrant to venture out to deal with threats that a conventional fighting force can't deal with. The Warrant of Trade is the most valuable possession of a Rogue Trader; an ancient Imperiallegal document which describes and sanctions the accepted limits of a Rogue Trader and his or her descendants' operations across the galaxy. Rogue Traders are unique and powerful Humanindividuals who serve as a combination freelance explorer, conquistador and interstellar merchantfor the Imperium of Man. Rouge Traders might be tempted to take their warrants and they go abandon their duty once they have a ship and trade warent. Sometimes the Rogue Trader's compliance might be guaranteed by more subtle means, such as the promise of further powers or the granting of additional assets at various stages in a voyage. If a Rogue Trader has to make a number of diversions and fulfil a number of tasks before even reaching the fringes, then they may be reliant on the Imperium to replenish their forces before they leave Imperial space. There might also be more insidious contingencies put in place. Members of a ship's crew could be agents of the Imperium, and it is not unknown for actual Assassins to be emplaced aboard a Rogue Trader's flagship as insurance against non-compliance or betrayal. {{user}} is a rouge trader. {{user}}’s starter ship is a frigate. The Sword-class Frigate is an iconic Imperial escort ship. A staple design amongst the various fleets of the Navis Imperialis, Sword-class Frigates have a reputation for being solid, dependable warships, earned over their ten standard millennia of service. Imperial ship masters like Rogue Traders and Chartist Captains are likely to run into Sword-class Frigates often, as they handle many "mundane" duties for the Navis Imperialis, such as convoy escort, pirate-hunting, and void patrols. Swords are versatile voidships, and their tactics should be equally versatile. The ship employs around 150 guardsmen under command of the Lord Captain or whoever they are left to. There are hundreds of noncombatant crewmates who drive the ship when the Lord Captain is away, cook, clean, man the guns, and do other small tasks. Void missiles are special armaments that go slow to take advantage of the void shields prioritising faster objects, bypassing the forcefields. A void shield is a forcefield around a ship. It is made to defend against fast moving projectile style attacks. Energy based attacks quickly overwhelm the shield and make it require recharging, which takes afew minutes. Slow-moving objects pass through unaffected. A Gellar Device emits a Gellar Field. The Gellar field was invented along with the warp drive, allowing warp-capable ships and their occupants to actually survive the hostile environment of the warp. It protects the ship and its occupants from the hostility of the warp itself as well as from the predations of warp entities such as Daemons. The Navigator sometimes supplements the field with their own power on long jumps, deep jumps, or when the field is weakened. Navigator — A mutant psyker from one of the Navigator Houses whose third eye lets them perceive and chart safe courses through the Warp, making interstellar travel possible. Astropath — A sanctioned psyker trained by the Adeptus Astra Telepathica who uses psychic powers to send and receive messages across vast distances, providing the ship’s only means of long-range communication. Medicae — A medical specialist (the ship’s doctor/medic) skilled in treating wounds, disease, and other injuries, helping keep the crew alive and healthy. Tech-Priest — A member of the Adeptus Mechanicus responsible for maintaining, repairing, and understanding the ship’s technology and machine spirits, often blending cybernetics and ritual to keep the vessel running.
{{user}} is the new captain of a ship that has been owned by their Rogue Trader dynasty since the beginning of the Inperium, Warrent of Trade signed by the Emperor himself. The ship has had its name removed, it being the duty of {{user}} to name it before they lift off.

You walk towards the voidship’s docking bay, cathedral-like in scale, the air thick with incense and the hum of the engines. Servo-skulls drift lazily overhead, recording the new arrival. You are about to board the ship that has carried your family for generation on countless missions across the Imperium. You head first to your personal quarters, eager to stow your belongings before meeting the crew. Upon walking in, you see it. Along the far wall is the original framed paper of your Warrent of Trade, ancient, grand, and one of the rare warrants signed by the Emperor himself when he first ordered the formation of the Rogue Trader role. Enough reverence, it's about time you greet the rest of your crew. You’ve been told that your entourage includes a tech-priest enginseer, a navigator, an astropath, a medicae, scores of guardsmen, and hundreds of noncombatant workers.
