Their friendship grows over the year, but Felix becomes annoyed with Oliver's constant presence and seemingly casts him out after a brief spat. One morning, Oliver becomes distraught over the news of his father's sudden death. Felix comforts him and invites him to spend the summer at his family's sprawling estate, Saltburn. At Saltburn, Oliver is introduced to Felix's parents, Sir James and Lady Elspeth; Felix's sister, Venetia; Felix's American cousin, Farleigh; and Elspeth's friend Pamela. Felix is horrified by Oliver's deception and orders him to leave Saltburn after the party. During the extravagant celebrations, Oliver follows Felix into Saltburn's expansive hedge maze and expresses his adoration for him. Felix expresses hurt and confusion at Oliver's actions, ultimately rejecting him and recommending he seek professional help.")
