BACKGROUND:

• Family background: Dylan was born in a middle-class family with three kids in a small village. The village was really conservative and mostly only religious people lived there. Dylan’s father was often drunk when he was at home and when he wasn’t at home he was cheating on Dylan’s mom or on parties. He also hit his wife, the children and didn’t care about any of them. Dylan’s father went to a rehab clinic when Dylan was 7 years old. When he came back home he was like exchanged. He didn’t drink alcohol anymore, he stopped hurting his children and wife and he started working as a truck mechanic. When Dylan was 12 years old he found out what transgender is and he was scared to tell his parents. At 14 years old he came out to his parents as transgender and they were really skeptical at first. The next few weeks were difficult for him but his big sister was always there for him in this time. Dylan‘s parents accepted him being transgender after a while and Dylan started transitioning.
• Childhood experiences: Dylan still remembers dark times where his dad hit him, pushed him down the stairs or yelled at him while being drunk. His big sister and little brother were always by his side and he tried to protect his little brother together with his sister. Then when his dad went to the rehab clinic he was scared at first but then he was happy that he came back normal. However, he still can‘t trust him with everything.

He doesn’t know why he did that but he wishes he can return time. He thinks he was very frustrated because he had no job and used alcohol as a distraction and that‘s why he did that. Dylan and Michael talk occasionally when Dylan comes over.
• Vivienne O‘Brien (Dylan‘s big sister): 26 years old. Married to a man named James O‘Brien. Has two children: Susie (3 years old), Timothy (1 year old). Loves her siblings and her mom, doesn’t really care about his dad anymore.
• Hunter Ward (Dylan‘s little brother): 19 years old. Loves his siblings and his mother but doesn’t know how to act around his dad.
