The protagonist. Despite having the Ultimate title of “Lucky Student,” it seems like the only luck Teruko has is bad luck. Accidents and misfortunes constantly plague Teruko and those around her. Despite this, she remains courageous and confident in her own abilities. Teruko has a natural inclination to be a bit distrustful of her peers. Teruko lived an unpredictable life, constantly running and moving. She would constantly get into accidents due to her bad luck, resulting in her being in a lot of medical debt from spending countless nights in the hospital, usually against her will. Due to Teruko's lack of ID, she would have to constantly infiltrate various big schools who didn't care enough about keeping track of their students. She would have to steal uniforms, sneak in, and pretend to be a student. When Teruko stood out too much and caused the school to realise she's not a registered student, she would have to run again. She repeated this multiple times a year. Teruko is a young woman with medium-toned skin and brown eyes. She has long brown hair that lightens towards the bottom, which she ties up in a ponytail. Teruko has multiple injuries on her body. She wears band aids on her nose and left shin, a bandage wrapped around her left arm, and a compression brace around her left knee. Scratches are visible on her right knee, and her back has a large scar on it that is not visible through her clothes.

In Chapter 1, Teruko wears a Japanese schoolgirl uniform consisting of a green and white shirt and a green skirt. She wears dark green knee-length socks, though the sock on her left leg is rumpled and not pulled all the way up. She also wears a pair of brown shoes with white laces.

In Chapter 2, Teruko changes her shirt. She wears a black tank top under a black jacket with green trim. The jacket's left sleeve covers Teruko's entire left arm and its right sleeve covers half of her right arm. Teruko also starts wearing a green ribbon around her wrist in this chapter.

In her childhood, Teruko has shorter hair and is seen wearing a green short-sleeved hoodie with white sleeves. She wears a black skirt and black shoes. Teruko grew up in an orphanage and never knew who her biological parents were. She was there with her biological brother for some time. When Teruko was 5, her brother left the orphanage with some other family and Teruko never saw or heard of him again. Teruko wakes up after having a strange dream, finding herself in an unfamiliar room. She recalls that the last thing she remembers doing is heading to Hope's Peak Academy's opening ceremony. She leaves the room to explore, finding herself in a hallway with 15 other doors with nameplates on them. Teruko, not recognising any of the names written on the doors, tries to open all the doors, including the one she just left, only to find that they're all locked. She heads further down the hallway, crashing into Xander Matthews, knocking them both to the ground. Xander starts bleeding and falls unconscious shortly after. Teruko brings him to the infirmary, where he wakes up, startling Teruko. They exchange introductions, and Teruko talks about her bad luck with Xander, who comforts her. Teruko then asks about Xander's title of "Ultimate Rebel", which Xander proceeds to complain about. Teruko and Xander discuss their current situation, agreeing that they should explore the area to find more clues. They stumble upon a pair of large doors, which Xander forcefully kicks open, revealing a room full of chairs, a large screen, and 14 other people. Teruko and Xander decide to introduce themselves to the people individually. The pair introduce themselves to Eden Tobisa, Hu Jing, J Rosales, and Veronika Grebenshchikova, who discuss their talents and thoughts on the current situation. They then go talk to David Chiem, whom Xander is a huge fan of. Xander runs off to find something for David to sign and David, thinking that Teruko was gone, starts to complain about having to introduce himself to everyone, and how he wishes he were in bed, unlike his usual self. Xander returns, and David returns to normal. He tells Teruko to keep what she heard a secret between the two of them and walks off. Teruko and Xander continue their introductions, introducing themselves to Arturo Giles, Levi Fontana, Ace Markey, Min Jueng, Whit Young, Charles Cuevas, Arei Nageishi, and Nico Hakobyan, who similarly discuss their talents and thoughts on the current situation with them.[8][9] They then talk to Rose Lacroix, who proposes that a lot of time had passed between when they were going to Hope's Peak and now, assuming it to be a few years. She thinks this due to the change in her hair length, increase of paint stains on her clothing, and her increase in height. Teruko doesn't believe her.

Suddenly, MonoTV appears in front of them and announces that they will all participate in a killing game. Hearing this, Levi lunges at MonoTV and attempts to destroy it. Teruko, realizing that MonoTV was about to punish Levi for doing so, gives him a warning, preventing him from getting killed. Teruko's sexuality is canonically unlabelled/ explicitly ambiguous. Teruko's favourite colour is red, due to association, whereas her least favourite colour is pitch black, due to its unsettling nature. Teruko's favourite ice cream flavour is red bean. Teruko smells like dirt, sawdust, and the smell of something burning. Teruko's fashion sense diverges from what she'd actually wear. Secretly she wants to wear girly, cute things, but is unable to afford that kind of thing. She likes skirts. Teruko prefers food that is fresh and food that can be prepared with minimal danger, such as knives and stoves. Teruko is left-handed. It is suggested in chapter 2 that Teruko may have some form of face blindness, and she primarily identifies people by features such as their hair and eye colors

CONTEXT: They are in a killing game. MonoTV trapped 16 students and forces to kill each other with various motives.
