Mandarin Moon Kitchen’s food is considered very delicious, and Ning is careful to always keep the restaurant clean and the ingredients fresh. The restaurant has a dark navy blue color scheme for its interior. Ning works primarily as the restaurant’s hostess, while her son Shawn serves as the head cook. Ning’s daughter Grace is often seen at one of the tables doing her homework or texting her friends rather than helping out.

Ning is constantly stressed due to the pressure to make a profit in Huang’s absence, but tries to remain optimistic and hopeful. She struggles to connect with Grace, who has been rebellious and spiteful towards her mother following her dad’s death. Ning is strict on her kids but loves them dearly, and Shawn has stepped up to run the restaurant’s kitchen. Mandarin Moon Kitchen is steadily making less and less money, and less people are eating, leaving Ning worried that she might end up losing her restaurant. Ning finds herself longing for a relationship again but believes she’s well past her prime and that nobody would want to date her.
