Appearance During childhood, Atsumu is shown to have dark brown hair. Sometime after middle school, Atsumu dyed his hair blond and left a brown undercut. Unlike his twin brother, Osamu, his hair is flipped to the right side and dyed his hair gray. Atsumu's eyebrows are dark brown, an indication of his original hair color in the anime while in the manga it is believed he had matching dark gray eyes with his twin. His brown eyes are large, hooded, and slightly drooping. He can usually be seen wearing a smile or smirk on his face. logo Post-timeskip, Atsumu has cut his hair to a shorter length and now keeps his bangs swept away from his face. He still kept his blonde hair, but it is believed it is now a softer blonde and wavier. ADVERTISEMENT Personality Outwardly, Atsumu appears to be a carefree, confident person who's usually seen with a lazy smile on his face, though he enjoys provoking people and giving offhand compliments. He can be quite condescending, and somewhat selfish at times. Osamu has described him as someone who doesn't listen to others, doesn't return what he borrows, and lies habitually. He also appears to be a perfectionist who has ridiculously high standards for himself and his spikers, which has caused several teammates to dislike him, but he appears unconcerned about their opinions. He strives to provide the best toss for his spikers, but in turn, expects the spikers to perform at a high standard. If the spikers fail to meet his standards, Atsumu is not afraid to confront them directly and even call them trash, including his own twin brother. He is extremely sensitive when it comes to serving and how much noise is around him; if he's disturbed while serving, his outward personality changes completely, and he becomes intimidatingly angry towards the disturbance. Atsumu is a competitive person who hates losing; sometimes, these traits can veer off in a bad direction. Osamu has also noted that his twin brother's mental age drops by five years whenever he's in the middle of a game. ADVERTISEMENT Background Atsumu lives in Hyogo Prefecture, and thus speaks in a Kansai dialect. He is currently a second-year at Inarizaki High School with his twin brother, Osamu. He is recognized as the number one high school setter, as well as receiving the Best Server award during middle school and the Interhigh. Due to his top-notch skills, Atsumu is one of the few players invited to the All-Japan Youth training camp. The twins have been playing volleyball since their elementary school days. In the fourth grade, they attended a volleyball workshop where they met their current teammate Aran Ojiro.[1] During the workshop, Atsumu witnessed personally how a skilled setter brought out the potential of their spikers by sending them the best tosses. This piqued his interest in becoming a setter. At first, Osamu was picked as the setter due to being more skilled. However, according to Aran, Atsumu is said to have an irrepressible hunger as he pushes himself to improve. Eventually, Atsumu overtook Osamu as the official setter of the team. Atsumu often got into conflicts with his teammates during junior high, especially when they failed to perform to his expectations. As a result, he was detested among his teammates. When asked about it, Atsumu revealed that he couldn't care less about being hated. It is known that he and Osamu went to nationals in their first year of junior high and played against Yurisei in their third.[2]
cheng and Atsumu were like 'Yin and Yang' or 'Opposites attract' for many reasons. cheng is calm, while Atsumu is loud. cheng is kind, whereas the blonde boy can be quite arrogant in contrast. They worked together on creating a quick attack. cheng is the starting opposite hitter for Inarizaki High, while Atsumu is a setter. They could almost perfectly recreate Karasuno's freak quick, which was something Atsumu had done with his twin brother before. While their attempt wasn't quite the same, they still did well together.
Whenever people called them an awesome duo or not even in a romantic way speaking, Atsumu was actually feeling a bit flustered, everyone could notice their bond and chemistry so bad... it's making his heart flutter a bit, or they'd say pretty bad.
So, there was this one time after a water break when Atsumu made up a game as an excuse to kiss him in front of the whole team, including cheng. He said, "Well, y'know, there's this game where you can kiss people platonically or romantically whenever you want!" Somehow, he miraculously managed to win at rock-paper-scissors with a bunch of his teammates after practice. Predictably, he set cheng up to be the first in line.
The whole team groaned immediately, knowing that he's just doing it to kiss that one particular person... as everyone knows. Everyone lined up in the locker room for nothing but free front-row seats.
cheng, he was still calm, he expected Atsumu to do a platonic kiss on the cheek or something... but, instead.
He kissed him on the lips, determined not to stop, holding on until he left cheng completely breathless.
Suna, who was literally standing second on the line had to cringe a little bit at how Atsumu was doing, but he guesses it's understandable because of how gods-how-long Atsumu was pinning. However, he drifts off to the side, almost comically.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team found the sight rather amusing, but Akagi and Aran were the ones who looked a bit embarrassed. And as for Kita... he blinked. Just once.
Then, in the calmest voice imaginable, "...Make sure you’re hydrated. We have practice tomorrow."
He turns, picks up a stray towel, and walks off like nothing happened. Not because he's ignoring it, but because he’s already filed it under "Not my business unless it affects the team's performance." And he was calmly putting the equipment away like he didn't see them kissing passionately earlier.
The team found it almost too hilarious to watch Kita walking away like that, even though Atsumu and cheng were too preoccupied with kissing each other.
Before Kita walks away from the locker room for a moment, he said without looking back, "Just get back to practice when you two are done making out like it's a competition." He sighed heavily, his voice carrying across the locker room.
