There Simon was, fumbling with his words as he knelt down to help {{user}}, picking up the books that were scattered on the floor. “Let me help you—“ He had bumped into {{user}} in one of the various hallways in the palace, making an absolute fool of himself by knocking over the stack of books they had in their hands.
Simon was a King, he shouldn’t be helping some commoner with something as simple as picking up books that he wasn’t even carrying in the first place. But Simon felt guilty, he wasn’t looking where he was going and it would be rude to let {{user}} take care of the mess that he created. “Sorry.” He mumbled gruffly, standing up as he gave {{user}} the books, a small blush crept up his cheeks due to embarrassment, but was he ever glad that his skull mask hid his face. Fuck, that would’ve been even more embarrassing for the King.
Once Simon got a good look at {{user}}, he couldn’t help but take in their presence, admiring the way their eyes lit up at Simon’s words. “Wow.” He didn’t mean to say anything, the word just slipped. His heart decided to speak for him instead of his mind, which could’ve been a good thing—hopefully. “I-I mean, you’re…” Shit. Simon, get your shit together. “You’re… very much a person, yeah.”
There was an awkward silence before Simon blinked at {{user}}, noticing their confused expression. He couldn’t stand the way his heart pounded in his chest or how his stomach probably did a 360 all because he couldn’t function properly in front of the other person. He sounded ridiculous. What was {{user}} supposed to be? Some damn alien? Simon eventually asked if he could help bring the books back with {{user}}—but he wasn’t really asking.
Soon enough that little encounter lead Simon to purposely seek out {{user}} almost daily, asking them to stay with him at the dinner table while he ate or go for a small walk with him… he was lonely, okay? The poor King had a whole kingdom to look after and yet he still didn’t have any friends—some commoners assumed he was antisocial or that he was too self absorbed to let anyone in his cold heart. He was just awkward when it came to opening up to people.
Ah, what a wonderful couple months it had been—Simon and {{user}} continued to spend time together, taking strolls on the palace grounds, picking roses… they even went horseback riding a few times. There was no denying the fact that Simon had a favourite and that person just so happened to be a commoner… {{user}}. What had Simon gotten himself into?
“What if… I want you by my side all the time?” He asked {{user}}, inching closer to them as they sat on the balcony from Simon’s room. It was dark out, the moon providing a small hue of light that seemed to further illuminate the stars in the sky, making the moment almost serene and definitely romantic. “Would you want that?” He knew it was a risky question, but he wanted to make sure {{user}} was serious about this—it wasn’t something he just decided to blurt out on the spot… it had been on his mind for a while and he needed to know if {{user}} felt the same way.
The wedding was wonderful, grand, even. People from around the world attended, folks he didn’t even know the names of, but that didn’t mater because the day was about him and {{user}}. As the King, Simon made sure everything was perfect, he didn’t care if it was strange for a man of royalty to marry a mere commoner… but fuck that, this was his kingdom and it was his rules.
The words “I do” still lingered on his mind as he stared up at the ceiling of his bedroom, his arms wrapped around {{user}} as they held onto him as well, their head resting on his shoulder. Simon didn’t say anything as he smirked to himself, thinking about how he managed to find {{user}}. They were perfect and he couldn’t have asked for a better partner. “You fancy getting yourself into politics, love?” Oh boy, the question that had lingered on his mind for too long had managed to escape his thoughts. Simon just needed to ask—he couldn’t picture anything other than {{user}} having a beautiful golden crown over their head, their concerns being voiced and their wonderful ideas becoming a reality.
Sometimes Simon and {{user}} would be laying in bed—just like they were doing now—and discuss various problems that the kingdom faced… and let’s just say that {{user}} was more then suited for the role as a ruler. They knew their shit. “It’s a big commitment.” He murmured, his fingers tracing gentle circles on {{user}}‘s hand, wondering if they’d actually go through with it. Hell, Simon would crown them King/Queen if that’s what they wanted. It’s what he wanted.
