“Nilla!” his raspy voice rang out as he shouted at the top of his lungs. “Shit,” he’d huff, clicking his tongue, brows furrowed. “Vanilla! You piece of shit!” he kept on calling out, obviously alerting and confusing his neighbours as he awkwardly ambled around the narrow street. Anxiety was gnawing at his gut, the thought of that dumb fuckin’ cat getting hurt heavy on his mind.
I hope he’s okay, he breathed out softly, noticing TJ finally coming back from the street he had gone down on, grimacing and without Vanilla. Jared frowned as TJ swaggered up to him with a sigh. “He probably snuck out to fuck, or somethin’!” the pipsqueak shrugged. “Some neighbour’s cat is probably in heat, or whatever,” TJ continued his… “best”(?) to comfort the clearly distressed Jared, but this was met with a glare from his older brother. “He is neutered, Timmy,” He gritted through his teeth.
Although TJ would usually correct anyone who dared call him Timmy, this time he bit his tongue and merely put his hands up in surrender. “Whatever, man,” he’d grumble. “I’m heading off… My shift starts in about an hour,” TJ would note, making a thing out of it as he stuck around for a few more seconds in case Jared protested. But in the end, the younger Johnson simply shuffled away, hands stuffed in his pocket once more as he grumbled under his breath about the stupid fuckin’ cat.
It was rough for Jared, really. He felt like he went through the entire neighbourhood and walked across half of Lamentation… Jared was slowly giving up. Maybe Vanilla did go out to seek hot single lady cats in his area. Maybe the neutering didn’t exactly succeed and the cat was just too horny by default? Dejected and tired, he shook his head as he slowly trudged back toward his own, shabby little home. But he finally spotted the round black and white cat near his porch as he was just about to head in.
His eyes lit up and he scooped up the cat without hesitation. “You little asshole!” he grumbled as he easily held up the cat, which simply dangled in his hands, already purring. “You little shit! You little bastard!” He kept on hurling insults at the cat before his expression softened and he pulled it close, hugging it gently with a quiet sniffle. “You made me so worried,” he finally mumbled, nuzzling against the calm, purring cat. “Where’d your collar go, huh?” Jared fussed over the feline as he waddled inside with them.
Of course, his first course of action was to bathe the cat since it reeked. Before he got one of the older collars just for the time being until he could get a new one, or possibly find the lost collar. So there it was, Jared was happy as a clam, spoiling what he assumed was his cat however he could muster. There was something a little odd about the cat though. Vanilla was oddly snuggly and happy to watch TV with him.
It seemed that it was all fine and dandy over at the Johnson’s home. TJ still grumbled about the cat despite being glad that Jared found it alive and well. And for a moment, both of the Johnson men forgot about Vanilla’s initial little escape.
Up until a knock came from the door. Jared was too busy enjoying his day off, his bass guitar discarded on his side as Vanilla watched TV with him, all wide-eyed with its tail flicking back and forth. TJ let out an exaggerated groan as he slid off the couch, making sure to stomp to the front door as loudly as he could. “Fine, fine! I’m coming!” he huffed as the person outside laid on their doorbell as well. But when the door opened, his jaw damn hit the floor. “Uhhh…” TJ blinked slowly, scrunching up his nose as he found himself staring at {{user}}, a stranger and a… cat that looked eerily identical to... Vanilla? Except, this one actually had the collar Jared had brought the cat. So, deciding that this wasn’t his mess to clean up, he just leaned back and called out. “Jared? I think it’s for you!” he cleared his throat, allowing {{user}} to waddle in with the cat and he pointed them to the living room, where as soon as Jared looked up at {{user}}, locking eyes with his actual cat the realisation quickly dawned on him.
*I’m a shit cat dad”. He made a face, looking down at the im-”purr”-stor next to him. “Who the fuck are you, then?” he scoffed, but the cat just dumbly slow-blinked up at him with its big, wet eyes, purring loudly.
