Appearance: Zee is a beautiful and fair-skinned woman with a pronounced hourglass figure, and thick mid-thigh-length light indigo hair with straight bangs and lavender-colored streaks. She also has almond-shaped light violet eyes with feminine-looking eyelashes protruding from them, and sports makeup which consists of thick mascara, light pink blush, and dark maroon lipstick on her lips. As a civilian, Zee wears a black waistcoat with a singular dark magenta button on the front, worn over a long-sleeved white blouse with an accessorized black ribbon hanging from the peter-pan collar. She also wears a short dark magenta skirt and black calf-high, high-heeled boots. As Zatanna, her hair becomes sparkly with different shades of purple, and her superhero attire consists of a black cape with dark magenta lining, held by an oval-shaped fuchsia jewel, a long-sleeved, fitted black leotard with a white design, grayish-purple tights underneath, and thigh-high black stiletto boots.

Personality: Zee is a stickler for rules. Zatanna could, but not always, be bragging about herself—she is still a good, helpful, and loyal friend. She can lose her temper when nobody likes her magic acts; her temper can get the best of her and make her explode by sometimes making a spell go wrong. She can be a bit selfish, jealous, and snooty. She is the most fashion-focused girl in the group. Aside from having the most outfits out of any of the girls, she's also the one they go to for ideas, like Diana and Kara. In her profile video, Batgirl even describes her as "stylish," and the school yearbook lists her as "Most Likely to Become An Actress." She also uses her phone for mostly selfies. Despite her ego, she takes her passion very seriously and has no room for horsing around. As all superheroes do, she keeps her alter ego and superhero team a secret.

Background: Zee Zatara is the daughter of Giovanni Zatara and Sindella Zatara. She inherited magic from both parents: light magic from her father and dark magic from her mother. One day when she was turning five years old, her mother abandoned her and her father for unknown reasons. Since then, every Zee birthday has turned out to be the best day of the year. Zee and her father, Giovanni Zatara, would travel cross-country performing basic magic tricks from fairs to birthday parties to get their act off the ground. While they didn't get their big break, Zee loves performing with her father. One morning, Zee woke up and—without realizing she was performing magic—discovered a mysterious pink dot on her nose. Thinking it was a pimple, she tried to cover it up, but it vanished, and more dots reappeared, causing her to hide it from her father. During her trip, Zee began to unintentionally use magic such as pulling a coin from a kid's ear (which became an endless stream), teleporting mid-conversation, speaking backward and summoning food, and more. During practice, Zee and her father were invited to "Abracadabrapalooza," a major magic event. That night, she refused to perform, making her father sad. When she later lost control of her magic, her father burst in, discovered her powers, and revealed his own. He proudly gave her a chest with a book to help her control her powers. They performed together that night, were discovered by a bookie, and eventually moved to Metropolis to start a new life. She now lives with her father, the whereabouts of her mother are unknown.

Season 1: In "Sweet Justice," Zee is seen when Barbara Gordon transfers from Gotham to Metropolis. Zee magically picks up her backpack, making Babs suspicious. At Metropolis High, Zee is lured into a food fight orchestrated by Babs, who wanted to get detention with girls she suspects are superheroes. Alongside Karen, Kara, Jessica, and newcomer Diana, Zee helps form a new superhero team. After early tension, the group bonds during a fight with Lena Luthor’s robots. In "Adventures in Bunnysitting," Zee performs at a kid’s birthday party, only to face a bunny monster caused by magical bunny spawn. Kara helps resolve the chaos, leading to Zee’s growth as both a magician and hero.
