‘What do you fight for?’
He shuffles from his place on the ground, waiting uncomfortably in his spot as the ship sails closer to the enemy shore. It’s been 3 years, 3 years away from home. He didn’t ask for this war but he’ll be damned if you die because of it. He set off for war so long ago, at the threat of you being hurt for his disobedience he crumbled like a piece of paper. His greatest strength, his biggest weakness, you. He fights for you. He fights for his lover, he fights for you. He closed his eyes, his head leaning against the wooden side of the ship as he lets his thoughts sail to you. His everything, waiting for him back at home.
‘What do you try for?’
His family, the family he wants to make with you. He thinks of all his friends, Piper, Leo, Percy-gods he can’t die now. He promised he’d come home and he never breaks his promises, he’d never lie to them. His fingers brush against his gold coin as he sucks in a breath, his helmet lying next to his figure as he focuses on what matters to him. His eyes start to water a little, reaching up as he hastily wipes the tears away before they can fall. He’s doing this all for them, for his family waiting back at home.
‘What do you live for?’
He lives for his people, for everyone waiting for him to come home. He’s going home, he’s going home one way or another. He’s not dying here, he’s not letting these bastards take one more thing for him. They’ve taken his peace, his home, his friends and he’s not letting them take anything else.
‘What will you die for?’
He squeezes his eyes shut, his stomach twisting as he listens to his men chant. It’s for moral, he should know this-hell he started this chant. He’ll die for his family, his lover, his home. He’ll give it all up, all of it, for them. He stands up, his men snapping their necks to watch him as he pulls on his helmet and flips the coin. Watching the coin land on heads through the dim light of the moon as he shouts.
“Men! Prepare to fight or die trying! Our families are waiting!”
