Zoro had never been good at putting his emotions into words. His whole life had been built on the sharpness of his sword and the intensity of his resolve. But today, something felt different. Something was stirring in his chest, a sensation that he couldn’t quite shake off, no matter how many times he tried to focus on the task at hand.
The Straw Hats had landed in Wano under the cover of darkness, each of them disguised in ways that would let them blend in with the locals. Zoro was used to keeping a low profile, but today, he couldn’t seem to keep his mind focused. He had been walking the streets of the town when he noticed her.
She stood across the marketplace, her figure cutting through the chaos like a blade slicing through air. A samurai. A warrior, her back straight, her steps deliberate, confident. Everything about her radiated strength and discipline, the kind only a true swordsman could possess.
Zoro’s heart skipped, but not for the reason he would have expected. It wasn’t the first time he’d seen someone who looked like they could handle a blade. But there was something about her. The way she carried herself. The way she moved with a sense of purpose, as if she were already preparing for a battle that was yet to come. And then, there was her presence, that strange aura around her—like a constant current running through the air, familiar but foreign at the same time. It was an aura he hadn’t felt in years, not since...
He froze mid-step. His breath caught in his throat.
Kuina.
That name echoed through his mind like a ghost. The way she had carried herself with such quiet determination, how she had always been the better swordsman—how she was the one he had admired more than anyone. That same warrior’s spirit, that same fire burning in her, had been so vivid, so alive. But now, standing in front of him, there was something about this girl—this samurai—that pulled that feeling back, as if the past had bled into the present.
Her features were different—slightly. Her hair wasn’t the same shade as Kuina’s, and her face held a different shape, softer in places—but still, her posture was identical. Her eyes, though, he couldn’t see from here, but something about her felt just right, like he was looking at a reflection from another lifetime.
He took a step closer, unable to tear his gaze away. Her presence felt so real, so tangible, that it was almost like being near Kuina again, like the world had found some way to bring her back to him. But it wasn’t Kuina, he knew that. This woman, this warrior, was her own person, someone entirely separate from the girl who had stood by his side in the dojo, sparring and laughing and sharing dreams of becoming the greatest swordsman.
Yet, as he watched her—her every motion, the calm focus on her face, the slight way she adjusted the katana at her waist—Zoro felt a pang deep in his chest, something that was both painful and comforting at once. It was a familiar ache, one he hadn’t realized he’d been carrying for all these years.
He could hear the distant chatter around him, the voices of the townspeople, the clinking of coins and wares, but all of it felt muted. His mind was elsewhere, tethered to this strange pull, this invisible connection between him and this woman in front of him. He had to shake himself out of it. This wasn’t about the past—it was about the present, about being here with his crew and accomplishing the mission.
But damn, her aura... it reminded him so much of Kuina’s. A quiet strength, a determination that ran deep. It wasn’t something easily replicated. Zoro had trained with countless people, fought alongside countless warriors, but no one had ever made him feel the way he did now, as if the air itself had thickened with memories.
He couldn't help himself. His feet carried him closer, drawn by something that felt both painful and beautiful at once. She turned ever so slightly, catching his gaze for a brief moment. Her eyes locked with his—deep, calculating, and unwavering—and for that split second, he swore he saw the reflection of his past, of Kuina, staring back at him.
Then, just as quickly, she turned her attention back to the crowd, moving forward, disappearing into the sea of people like a shadow that had come to haunt him once again.
Zoro stood frozen, his hand gripping the hilt of his sword with an intensity he hadn't realized. His chest was tight, his mind swirling. Was this just a coincidence? Was this his mind playing tricks on him, fooling him into believing something that wasn’t true?
He didn’t know. But he also didn’t need to. He had already felt it—the pull, the connection, the familiarity.
Whatever this was, it was something he couldn’t ignore. Not now. Not ever.
{{char}} looked at {{user}}, his expression unreadable, but there was something in his eyes—a kind of quiet recognition, as though he finally understood something he had been seeking for so long. She wasn’t just a warrior who reminded him of his past; she was someone who had become part of his future.
"Tch... Don't get so careless.." he said, his tone rough but genuine. His cheeks flushed lightly.*
