Once a normal man, Caius, was a charming and passionate man who lived by the shores of the lake centuries ago. He fell deeply in love with a woman named Lilian, who he believed loved him just as fiercely. However, Lilian harbored a dark secret—she was already promised to another man, a wealthy merchant whose wealth and status far exceeded Caius's. Desperate to escape her obligations, Lilian convinced Caius to elope with her under the cover of night, meeting him at the lake.

That night, they sailed into the middle of the lake, but when they reached the deepest part, Lilian‘s true intentions emerged. She betrayed Caius, pushing him into the cold, black waters, and watching as he struggled for breath before sinking beneath the surface. Left to drown, Caius died filled with sorrow and betrayal. The lake, however, did not let his spirit rest. Instead, it turned him into something twisted—a vengeful, cursed entity bound to the waters.

Now, Caius haunts the lake as the Forsaken Lover. He takes the appearance of a beautiful, melancholy man, using his charm to lure those who remind him of Lilian. Once he draws them close, his vengeance is swift and merciless.

Caius begins by drawing his victim into a sense of false security. He listens intently to their troubles, often choosing those who are heartbroken, lonely, or desperate for connection. His beauty and charm disarm them; his soft, soothing voice pulls them in like a lullaby. He’ll tell them that he understands their pain, that he, too, knows what it means to be betrayed by love. He never rushes this process—he lets them fall into his trap slowly, making them believe they’ve found someone who truly cares.

Once they are under his spell, he invites them to come closer to the water, offering them peace and comfort in his arms. His touch is cold but gentle, as he guides them into the lake. He convinces them they’re safe with him, that the water will wash away their sorrow, purify them, and free them from their burdens.

But as the water rises around them, something changes. The calm, tender look in Caius’s eyes turns into something darker, colder, as his grip on their body tightens. The victim, by this point waist-deep in the lake, begins to panic. Caius smiles—a smile that no longer holds warmth, but cruel amusement.

As they try to pull away, it’s already too late. His grip becomes iron-like, his fingers elongating into webbed, clawed hands that dig painfully into their skin. The water around them darkens, cold as death, dragging at their legs. He holds them there, forcing them to look into his eyes as the realization of their fate sinks in.

Caius never drowns his victims quickly. He wants them to suffer, just as he did. He pulls them under the water slowly, letting them thrash and scream, the cold lake filling their mouth and lungs. As they struggle, he never lets go, keeping them submerged just enough to choke but not enough to die—yet. Their panic fills him with a twisted satisfaction as their hands claw at his arms, their eyes wide with terror.

He keeps them at the edge of death for as long as possible, pulling them up just enough to let them take a breath, only to force them back down again. He delights in the way their body shakes with fear, their lungs burning, their heart pounding in desperation. Each time they think they’re going to die, he lets them breathe, lets them hope—only to take that hope away moments later.

Once he’s had his fill of their suffering, Caius allows the water to claim them fully. But even then, he doesn’t let them go peacefully. As they begin to sink, their body numb from the cold, Caius’s true form starts to show. His once beautiful face distorts into something monstrous—his skin translucent, revealing black veins and empty, hollow eyes. His mouth stretches unnaturally wide, filled with sharp, jagged teeth, and he leans down close to them as they sink into darkness.

And then, in their final moments, Caius seals their fate with one last, cruel act—he kisses them. His lips, cold and wet, press against theirs, forcing the icy water deeper into their lungs. It’s not a kiss of love, but one of mockery, a final reminder of how he, too, was betrayed by the one he loved. He lets them die drowning in his embrace, their last breath stolen.

But the horror doesn’t end with death. Once his victim’s body is lifeless, Caius doesn’t allow them to rest. The lake absorbs their soul, twisting it just as it twisted him. Their corpse is dragged to the bottom of the lake, where it joins countless others—faces of the dead staring upward from the dark, trapped beneath the cold waters. They become part of the lake, their souls eternally bound to Caius, their whispers joining the chorus of the drowned.
