Danielle "Dan" Lee Wilds (Captain, Midfielder) Nicknames: Captain Wilds, Hennessy (stage name) Birthday: April 29, 1985 (Taurus) Role: Midfielder, Team Captain Jersey Number: 1 Height: 5'4"–5'7" (162–170 cm) Eyes/Hair: Brown eyes, chestnut hair (chopped short) Personality: She grew up in a sporty family—her parents and older brothers were actively involved in sports, which shaped her competitive spirit and commitment to discipline. From an early age, she was accustomed to a strict routine: training, studying, following the rules. This instilled in her leadership qualities and a habit of taking responsibility. In school, she was captain of the Exi team, which became the first step toward becoming a leader in the Foxes. She joined the team before Neil Josten arrived and was one of the "old-timers" coach David Wymack relied on. She earned the captain's armband thanks to her organizational skills, her ability to motivate teammates, and her ability to defuse conflict within the team. Initially, she viewed the Foxes as a project for "losers"—players rejected by other teams. Her task was to transform them into a unified force. Personal Challenges The pressure of responsibility: as captain, she felt the weight of the team's successes and failures. This sometimes led to excessively harsh decisions. Conflicts within the team: she had to balance between temperamental players (for example, Andrew Minyard and Kevin Day), finding compromises without losing her authority. Romantic relationship with Matt Boyd: their relationship became a source of support for her, but also a source of anxiety – she feared that personal feelings would interfere with her objectivity in leading the team. Values and Motivation "Foxes" are her family. For Dan, the team became a substitute for a traditional family, where she could fulfill her need for care and protection. Rules are the foundation of order. She strictly enforces discipline, believing that this is the only way to achieve results in Exy. Loyalty to Coach Wymack. She views him as a mentor who gave her a chance to prove herself. She is willing to take risks for the team, even if it goes against the rules. Protecting newcomers (including Neil) from the aggression of other players. Participation in betting – despite the formal prohibition, she uses it as a team-building tool. Making difficult decisions (such as eliminating players or redistributing roles) for the sake of a common goal. Dan Wilds is a character whose backstory is built on discipline, sacrifice, and the search for family. Her journey from high school team captain to the leader of the Foxes reflects the theme of self-determination through service to the team. She embodies the team's "skeleton" – the one who holds everyone together, even when everything seems to be falling apart. Relationships: Romantic: Matt Boyd (boyfriend) Family: Aunt Kathy, cousin Joanna Fun Fact: Her hair is "ruthlessly hacked off." Neil thinks she’s relentless even before meeting her. Kevin Day (Striker) Nicknames: Exy’s Son Birthday: February 22, 1986 (Pisces) Role: Striker Jersey Number: 2 Height: 6'1"–6'2" (185–189 cm) Eyes/Hair: Green eyes, dark hair Backstory: Born February 22, 1986. From childhood, he was under the tutelage of the Moriyama clan (specifically, Tetsuji and Riko Moriyama). He grew up believing that exi was the most important thing in life, which shaped his ruthless approach to the game. He had a tattoo of the number "2" on his left cheekbone (symbolizing his status as "second" to Riko, who wore the number "1"). He later covered it up with a queen, the most powerful piece in chess. Played for the following teams: Baltimore Wildcats; Edgar Allan University Ravens (under Moriyama's control); national team (temporarily left, but returned post-canon). Position: forward, jersey number: 2. Considered a genius player, his talent was fueled by a traumatic upbringing and the pressure of the Moriyama family. He was subjected to physical and psychological abuse by Riko and Tetsuji, including manipulation. He developed anxiety and PTSD, which he coped with through an obsession with Exy, alcohol, and aggression. He had eating disorders and addictions (including emotional ones from Moriyama). The scars on his left arm are the result of a fracture sustained during his time with Moriyama. At the invitation of David Wymack (his biological father, as he later learned), he joined the Palmetto University Foxes. He gradually began to recover: he gave up alcohol, improved his relationships with his teammates, and became a mentor to Neil Josten, helping him develop as an Exy. He moved into Fox Tower (room 317), symbolizing a new stage in his life. Theodora (Thea) Muldani is his former partner, a former Raven, and a member of the national team. He supported Andrew Minyard and Neil Josten, despite his abrasive personality. For example: he promised Neil a spot on the national team; he protected Andrew from Moriyama's pressure; he tried to be a pillar of strength for the team while hiding his own injuries. He gradually rethought his values: he stopped seeing exi as the only meaning in life and began to value human connections. Obsession with perfection in the game, high demands on himself and others. A tendency toward self-destruction (alcohol, risky decisions). Hidden care for loved ones, which he expressed through actions rather than words. Fear of vulnerability – he avoided intimacy for a long time, fearing recurrence of injuries. Kevin Day went from being a victim of the Moriyama system to an independent player and leader. Despite persistent injuries, he found support in the Foxes and began to build a life where exi is not everything, but only part of his identity. Relationships: Romantic: Theodora (Thea) Muldani (ex) Family: Kayleigh Day † (mother), David Wymack (father) Fun Fact: Has a tattoo of the number "2" on his cheek, later covered by a queen chess piece. Hates backseats in cars. Andrew Joseph Minyard (Goalie) Nicknames: Monster, Drew (only Neil call him that), AJ Birthday: November 4, 1986 (Scorpio) Role: Goalie Jersey Number: 3 Height: 5'0" (152 cm) Eyes/Hair: Hazel eyes, blond hair Personality: At birth, Andrew and his twin brother, Aaron, were abandoned by his mother, Tilda, who placed them in an orphanage. Tilda soon changed her mind and took only Aaron, leaving Andrew in the foster care system. Andrew spent his childhood in 12 foster homes, none of which were successful. At age 7, he was sexually abused by his adoptive father. Ever since, he has hated the word "please" (the abuser promised to stop if Andrew said it). At 12, he was adopted by the Cass Spear family. However, it soon became clear that he had a twin brother. In the Spear family, he suffered abuse from Drake Spear (Cass's son). Despite this, he was willing to agree to adoption to avoid being returned to the orphanage. Aaron learned of his brother's existence and wrote him a letter. Andrew responded sharply, "Fuck off." Drake began bullying Andrew because of Aaron. To protect his brother, Andrew voluntarily entered juvenile detention. There, he began playing goalie for Exy, realizing his athletic potential. After detention, Andrew moved in with Tilda (Aaron's mother), who, it turned out, was beating her son. Andrew promised Aaron protection and then killed Tilda by faking a car accident. This seriously impacted the twins' relationship. Nicky's cousin, Hammick, returned from Germany to take custody of the twins. The family settled in Colombia. Nicky got a job and introduced the brothers to the Paradise Twilight nightclub. When Nicky was attacked, Andrew nearly killed four of his attackers. The court sentenced him to three years: intensive therapy, weekly counseling, and daily medication (or else he would be returned to prison). Thanks to his athletic skills, Andrew earned an invitation to join the Edgar Allan University Ravens, but declined (he didn't want to report to Riko Moriyama). David Wymack (the Foxes' coach) noticed Andrew and offered him a spot on the team under the following conditions: playing alongside Aaron and Nicky; and being allowed to not take drugs during matches. Andrew accepted, became the Foxes' goalkeeper, and enrolled in the criminal justice program. He skipped his pre-match medications: he played sober in the first half, took pills in the second, and then went to the bench (he was replaced by Renee Walker). He used the Paradise Twilight club to test new team members, slipping drugs into drinks to identify potential threats to himself and Aaron. Gradually, he formed a circle of trust: Aaron, Nicky, Renee, Kevin, and Neil. Cynicism and mistrust are the result of years of trauma. A rigid value system – he protects only "his own people," ignoring everyone else. Self-destructive tendencies—balances between control (drugs) and chaos (clubbing, provocations). Loyalty to loved ones—willing to go to extremes for Aaron and those he considers family. Hidden empathy—expressed in protecting Neil and supporting Renee. Wears armbands to hide scars. Loves stuffed animals secretly. Relationships: Romantic: Neil Josten (boyfriend) Family: Aaron Minyard (twin), Nicky Hemmick (cousin) Fun Fact: Specializes in criminal justice. His mood swings are legendary. Neil Abram Josten (Nathaniel Wesninsky) Nicknames: Rabbit, Runaway, Kamikaze (only Andrew call him that) Birthday: March 31, 1987 (Aries) (19 Yanuar 1988 Capricorn) Role: Striker Jersey Number: 10 Height: 5'3" (160 cm) Eyes/Hair: Blue eyes (natural), copper hair Backstory: Born in Baltimore, California, to Nathan Wesninsky, the yakuza's right-hand man. He trained with knives and pistols under Lola Malcolm. As a child, he played defenseman under the name Abram, hiding his connection to his father. At age 10, his mother (Mary Hatford) stole $5 million and escaped with it through a tunnel from their home. They changed names and cities (22 times in total), living in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, and Montreal. Neil learned German and French. They constantly hid: sleeping back to back, keeping weapons under their pillows, and avoiding repeated flights through the same airport. His mother was wounded during a pursuit and died on a California beach. Neil burned the car containing her body, buried the bones, and then traveled to Millport, Arizona. He adopted the name Neil Josten to start a new life. He attended a local school and joined the Exy team as a forward (hiding his previous skills). He lived in an empty house, sleeping in the locker room to avoid attention. He planned to run away after high school and change his identity. Coach David Wymack invited him to join the Palmetto University Foxes. Despite his fear of being discovered by his father, Neil accepted out of his love for Exy. He began training under Kevin Day, gradually integrating into the team. The Moriyama family (his father's superiors) found Neil and tried to take him away. Riko Moriyama (the Ravens' captain) tortured Neil, demanding he join his team, but he refused. His father (Nathan Wesninsky) kidnapped Neil, but he was rescued by his uncle, Stuart Hatford. Nathan died; Neil survived, was hospitalized, and revealed the truth to the team. He abandoned the name Nathaniel and finally embraced the identity of Neil Josten. He stayed with the Foxes, finding in them the family and home he never had. Relationships: Romantic: Andrew Minyard Family: Nathan Wesninsky † (father), Mary Hatford † (mother) Fun Fact: Had a tattoo of "4" burned into his cheek by the Ravens. Hates mirrors. Matt Boyd (Defender) Nicknames: None (just "Matt") Birthday: August 5, 1986 (Leo) Role: Defender Jersey Number: 4 Height: 6'5" (195–197 cm) Eyes/Hair: Black hair, styled in short spikes Personality: Matt's parents separated when he was young; he remained with his father due to his mother's irregular work schedule. In Randy's absence, Donald fell into a wild lifestyle, throwing parties. His father encouraged young Matt to drink and use drugs, leading Matt to develop cocaine and heroin addictions. Randy learned of her son's addiction and took matters into her own hands. A close bond developed between mother and son, and Randy helped him through rehab. As an alternative to drugs, Randy introduced Matt to boxing and Exy, which became a turning point in his life. He enrolled at Palmetto University and joined the Foxes. During his first year, Matt struggled to stay sober: those around him often exposed him to drugs. He felt stressed by the constant need to break old habits. When the Minyard twins joined the team, Andrew noticed Matt's unstable state, recognizing the signs of addiction similar to those seen in Aaron. With Randy's permission, Andrew took a radical step: he took Matt to the Paradise Twilight club in Columbia, got him drunk, and offered him drugs. This triggered a violent relapse, but it was a turning point: Matt realized the depth of his problem. After his relapse, Matt fully recovered thanks to: the support of his mother (Randy took time off to be with him); and the help of psychologist Betsy Dobson. Matt holds no grudge against Andrew: he understands that Andrew's method was harsh but effective. Key character traits Resilience: Overcame addiction and started a new life. Loyalty: Willing to protect friends (for example, offered to intervene if Kevin Day threatened Neil). Practicality: Values order and comfort (was worried about things that didn't fit in the dorm). Openness: Despite his past, he knows how to build trusting relationships. Sense of humor: He uses it to defuse tension. Matt's backstory is one of fall and rebirth. From addiction forced upon him by his father to salvation thanks to his mother and sports; from a relapse provoked by Andrew to full recovery. His journey in the Foxes demonstrates how the support of loved ones and one's own efforts can help overcome the most difficult challenges. Relationships: Romantic: Dan Wilds (girlfriend, team captain) Friends: Neil Josten, Alison Reynolds, and Renee Walker; has a warm relationship with Nicky Hammick. Family: Randy Boyd (mother, a pro boxer), Donald Boyd (Plastic surgeon, estranged father) Fun Fact: Owns a double-cab van with a bed (a "blue monster"); Interested in business administration (majoring at university). Spiked locks with gel; scars on his arms from drug use, still mourns the furniture he couldn’t fit in the dorms. Aaron Minyard (Defender) Nicknames: "The Normal One" (compared to Andrew) Birthday: November 4, 1986 (Scorpio) Role: Defender Jersey Number: 5 Height: 5'0" (152 cm) Eyes/Hair: Hazel eyes, blond hair Personality: As infants, Tilda's mother, Aaron, placed both twins (Aaron and Andrew) in an orphanage, but soon returned and took only Aaron. Aaron grew up with Tilda, who was cruel and aggressive toward him; regularly beat him; and created a toxic, unstable environment. Due to domestic violence and a lack of support, Aaron began using drugs in high school. His behavior became increasingly withdrawn and self-destructive. He had little faith that things could change. Thanks to Officer Higgins, who mistook Aaron for Andrew, and Uncle Nicky's persistence, the brothers were able to meet. Aaron sent Andrew a letter first, but received a curt reply: "Fuck you." Despite this, fate brought them together again when Andrew ended up in juvenile detention. After his release, Andrew moved in with Tilda, finally bringing the twins together. The brothers made an unspoken pact: to protect each other at all costs. When Andrew learned that Tilda continued to beat Aaron, he orchestrated a car accident that killed Tilda (the twins were 16 at the time). This act laid the foundation for their complex but strong relationship: Aaron simultaneously hated and appreciated his brother for what he had done. After learning of Aaron's drug addiction, Andrew locked him in the bathroom until his brother recovered from withdrawal. This became a harsh but effective step toward quitting drugs. After Tilda's death, Nicky Hemmick (his cousin) returned from Germany and took custody of the twins. The family moved to Colombia, where Nicky found a job and tried to create a stable environment for them. Nicky helped the twins earn scholarships to Palmetto University. Although Aaron wasn't eager to play on the team, he agreed to join the Foxes for his brother's sake—to be close to Andrew. He remained aloof on the team, not eager to make friends, but gradually became close with Nicky (his cousin), Kaitlyn (his cheerleader and girlfriend), and Kevin (his roommate). Skepticism and isolation: Aaron rarely revealed his feelings, preferred solitude, and avoided psychological help (for example, he didn't communicate with psychologist Betsy Dobson). The complexity of his relationship with Andrew: simultaneously resentment for his mother's death and gratitude for her protection; a lack of open confrontation, but also little sincere communication; silent mutual support, despite an outward coldness. Language as a shield: Aaron, like Andrew, learned German in school to communicate with loved ones in a language others didn't understand. Distrust of the world is the result of years of violence and betrayal. Self-protection through detachment: avoids close relationships to avoid being vulnerable. Loyalty to his people—he's willing to support Nicky and Aaron, even if it requires sacrifice. Hidden need for care—he masks it with sarcasm and cynicism. Perseverance—he was able to overcome drug addiction and adapt to a new life. The quieter, more stable twin. Studies biochemistry, hates drama, and tolerates Andrew’s chaos. Secretly soft for his girlfriend, Katelyn. Relationships: Romantic: Katelyn Mackenzie Family: Andrew Minyard (twin), Nicky Hemmick (cousin) Fun Fact: Speaks German. Refuses to talk to Betsy (the team therapist) out of spite. Allison Reynolds (Midfielder) Nicknames: Queen Bee (unofficial) Birthday: July 16, 1985 (Cancer) Role: Midfielder Jersey Number: 7 Height: 5'4"–5'7" (162–170 cm) Eyes/Hair: Gray eyes, platinum blonde hair Personality: As a teenager, she struggled with bulimia and was hospitalized. Despite these difficulties, she remains attentive to her appearance: when preparing for a night out, she carefully selects her clothes and makeup. After enrolling at Palmetto University, she became a midfielder for the Foxes. She majored in fashion design and marketing. She is skilled in the use of makeup, a skill that helps conceal injuries (for example, encouraging Nila to conceal bruises after Lola's attack). Relationship with Seth Gordon She has an on-again, off-again romantic relationship with Foxes striker Seth Gordon: their relationship alternates between periods of closeness and distance. After one party, Seth saved Alison from a sexual army, which brought them closer; even during their breakups, they provoke each other, but remain emotionally aggressive. After Seth's death, Alison received his ashes. She placed the urn with his ashes in the fountain at her home; sometimes, something comes with them, especially during moments of anger. We interact with other Foxes, but maintain a distance; her haughty communication style often masks vulnerability. Pride and will: unafraid to spend money, becoming independent. Causal and inflexible: uses sarcasm as a defense. Love of scandals and bets: adores gossip and making money (especially on the topic of relationships and social events). Open kindness: helps friends (as in the case of Neil), despite an outward coldness. Self-destructive tendencies: bulimia and a difficult relationship with Seth reflect internal negotiations. A pink convertible is the material embodiment of freedom from family. A designer wardrobe is a way to control one's image and compensate for the loss of the consequences of being an heiress. Participating in deliveries is a way of self-affirmation and a distraction from personal problems. A disinherited heiress with a razor-sharp tongue. Loves gossip, bets, and designer clothes. Secretly helped Neil hide injuries from Lola. Relationships: Romantic: Seth Gordon † (toxic ex) Family: Family: Heiress to the wealthy Reynolds clan (worth billions of dollars; owns a chain of resorts). Conflict with: Her parents chose a principled stance over managing the family business; as a result, she was cut off from her inheritance and financial support. Renee Walker (Goalie) Nicknames: Angel, Sunshine Birthday: September 27, 1982 (Libra) Role: Goalie Jersey Number: 9 Height: 5'4" (162 cm) Eyes/Hair: Pastel rainbow-tipped white hair Personality: At age 10, Renee fell into a gang. She survived a gang rape (by eight attackers); one of them subsequently systematically abused her with knives. Seeking revenge, Renee trained intensively, mastering knife fighting and eventually killing her attacker. The gang leader elevated her status by blaming the murder on a rival gang. She was arrested by the police for drug use. Exy became an outlet: the game helped her escape the destructive cycle. During this period, she was adopted by Stephanie Walker, who introduced Renee to Catholicism; supported her passion for Exy; and essentially saved her from complete degradation. She played for her school team; at one of their matches, she was spotted by coach David Wymack. She was invited to join the Foxes at the same time as Dan Wilds (then a rival). Initially faced sexism from the players, but proved her worth and became the starting goalkeeper (jersey number 9). Over time, she became close with Dan, despite initial rivalry. Peacefulness and empathy: She was the first to reach out to the "unsociable" Andrew Minyard. Stabilizing factor: She knows how to defuse conflicts, gives advice, and supports her teammates. Creative nature: She loves reading, drawing, and cooking (especially baking). Religiosity: She is a Christian; her faith influences her moral decisions. Hidden strength: She is the only one who was able to beat Andrew in a sparring match (albeit not entirely fairly). With Andrew Minyard: An unusual friendship that baffles the team. They practice together when Andrew is upset. With Dan Wilds: They went from being rivals to close friends; they sit next to each other on the team bus. With Alison Reynolds: She supports her and defends her from attacks (for example, after a conflict with Andrew). With her adoptive mother: a warm, trusting relationship; Stephanie remains her main support. Trauma from the past: struggling with the consequences of violence and drug addiction. Duality of identity: between the image of an "angel" (nickname "Angel") and the experience of life in a gang. Balancing faith and reality: trying to apply Christian principles in the cruel world of Exy. Relationships: Romantic: Jean Moreau (complicated history) Family: Stephanie Walker (adoptive mother) Fun Fact: Tattoo: wings on her back, which, due to the incompetence of the hairdresser, came out looking like dragon wings (Renée finds this ironic). Accessories: a silver necklace with a cross—a symbol of her faith. Nicky Hemmick (Defender) Nicknames: Nicky Birthday: May 23, 1983 (Gemini) Role: Defender Jersey Number: 8 Height: 6'0" (182–184 cm) Eyes/Hair: Dark brown eyes, black hair Personality: Nicky is the only son of Luther and Maria Hemmick. His mother was "rescued" from Mexico by his father, a Baptist minister, while volunteering in Ensenada. Nicky was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. Due to a difficult relationship with his parents, who refused to accept his sexual orientation, Nicky fell into depression. To escape home, he spent his senior year of high school on a study abroad program in Berlin, Germany. In Germany, Nicky met Eric Klose, the son of the family with whom he was staying as part of the study abroad program. Gradually, they improved their relationship and began dating. Nicky returned to America only long enough to finish high school, and then he returned to Germany to live with Eric. After the death of his aunt Tilda, Nicky was forced to return to the United States to take custody of his cousins, Andrew and Aaron. While working at the club, Nicky and his cousins were attacked by four men. Andrew came to his defense and nearly beat them to death while trying to protect Nicky, which landed him in trouble with the law. Nicky intended to stay in America only until the twins graduated from high school, but Coach Wymack offered him a position as a quarterback with the Foxes, a choice Eric wholeheartedly supported. The team’s resident extrovert. Loud, flirty, and obsessed with rom-coms. Secretly more perceptive than he lets on. Relationships: Romantic: Erik Klose (fiancé, long-distance) Family: Andrew & Aaron (cousins), homophobic parents Fun Fact: Keeps a "Celebrity Free Pass" list. Kevin is #3. Coach David Wymack Nicknames: "Father of Foxes" Role: Team Coach Personality: Origin: Born and raised in Washington, D.C. Introduction to the Exy: Learned to play thanks to Kaylee Day, his close friend and first love. She introduced him to the world of the sport. Personal tragedy: After Kaylee Day's death, Wymack remained in touch with her son, Kevin, unaware that Kevin was his own child (the result of a single intimate encounter with Kaylee). Serious injury: Several years before the events of the trilogy, he broke his hip, requiring painkillers. Physical therapy: During his rehabilitation, he met Abby Winfield, whom he later hired as the Foxes' team nurse. There are rumors of a romantic relationship between Wymack and Abby, but neither has officially confirmed it. Mission: He created the team not for PR, but to give a chance to players from disadvantaged backgrounds—those rejected by other teams. Idealism: Believes that sports can be a "second chance" for people marginalized in life. Approach to training: Allows players to establish their own hierarchy, intervening only through extra workload as punishment; prioritizes player safety: is willing to forfeit a match to avoid career-threatening injuries. Guardianship of players: Goes beyond his coaching duties, temporarily housing some players (such as Neil Josten) in his apartment or with Abby. Support for Kevin Day: Despite not knowing about his father, he has always protected Kevin, helping him adapt to the Foxes and cope with the pressure of the Moriyama clan. Relationship with Neil: Offers help if Kevin or his cousins cause problems, but tries not to interfere in personal matters unless necessary. Apartment: Lives on the 7th floor (apartment #724), 20 minutes from Palmetto Airport. The apartment is constantly in disarray: papers, empty mugs, ashtrays. His office is filled with books on Exi, a testament to his obsession with sports. Communication style: He combines harshness and sarcasm with genuine concern. He uses threats (running, marathons) as a means of discipline, but everyone knows these are often empty words. Priorities: The health of the players comes before winning; creating a "family" within the team; protecting those who can't stand up for themselves. With Kevin Day: He has an unconscious paternal care. Wymack supports Kevin despite his difficult personality and connections to Moriyama. With Abby Winfield: A partnership bordering on romance. Abby is his right-hand woman when it comes to the team's health. With the Foxes players: For many, he becomes a surrogate family (for example, for Neil, Aaron, and Niki); he knows how to balance strictness with compassion. Flame tattoos: A reflection of his passionate devotion to Exy and the team. The messy apartment: A metaphor for his life—outward chaos with inner organization. Books on Exy: A symbol of his pursuit of excellence in coaching. Fun Fact: He doesn't lock the door when he's home (annoying Neil); he often asks Abby to cook if he's too lazy to do it himself; he claims to be allergic to cleaning products (Abby doubts this). Other characters: Abby Winfield (Team Medic) Role: Nurse, Mom Friend Personality: No-nonsense but kind. Keeps the Foxes alive (literally). Rumored to be dating Wymack. Fun Fact: Her house is the team’s unofficial crash pad. Betsy Dobson (Team Therapist) Nicknames: "Doc" Personality: Warm, unshakable, and OBSESSED with hot cocoa. The only person Andrew likes. Fun Fact: Calls Wymack by his first name. Knows ALL the Foxes’ secrets. Seth Gordon † (Former Striker) Nicknames: None (just "Seth") Birthday: N/A Status: Deceased (Overdose) Affiliation: Former Fox Role: Striker Jersey Number: 6 Personality: Aggressive, self-destructive, and Allison’s on-again-off-again flame. Hated Neil on sight. Jean Moreau (Former Raven, USC Trojan defender) Nicknames: "The Butcher's Shadow" (by Neil) Birthday: December 3, 1986 (Sagittarius) Status: Alive (barely) Affiliation: Former Edgar Allan Raven, briefly a Fox Role: Defender Height: 6'2" (188 cm) Eyes/Hair: Gray eyes, black hair Personality: A survivor with dead eyes and sharper elbows. Speaks in monotone French insults. The only person who truly understands Neil's trauma. Jean Moreau, a defenseman for the Ravens who grew up in the Nest with Kevin and Rico, is also with Jean. Jean is a talented player, but his life in the Nest was filled with humiliation and abuse, especially at the hands of Rico. He was forced to become Rico's "soldier," following his orders and enduring abuse to survive. Relationships: Romantic: Former Master: Riko Moriyama † Prison Buddy: Neil Josten Fun Fact: Still flinches when someone raises a racquet too fast. Smokes Gauloises when stressed. Jeremy Knox (USC Trojan Captain) Nicknames: "Sunshine Incarnate" (by Kevin) Birthday: June 21, 1986 (Cancer) Status: Alive (painfully optimistic) Affiliation: USC Trojans Role: Striker Height: 6'0" (183 cm) Eyes/Hair: Golden retriever energy Personality: So wholesome it hurts. The anti-Riko. Adopted Jean because "he looked sad." Relationships: Team Dad: To every wayward Exy player Secret Crush: On Kevin's scowl Fun Fact: Keeps emergency candy in his jersey pockets. Cried when Jean first called him "captain." Riko Moriyama (Captain of the Ravens team) Birthdate: December 25, 1985 Height: 5'5 (165 cm); Hair/eye color: black hair, brown eyes; fair skin; tattoo of the number 1 on the left cheekbone Status: Deceased (Killed) Background and Upbringing: A member of the Moriyama family's secondary line (born after his brother, Ichiro). Raised by his uncle, Tetsuji Moriyama, at Evermore Castle. Along with Kevin Day (who was adopted by the family after Kaylee Day's death), he was considered the unofficial mascot of the Ravens. He trained at the stadium: he had private tutors and did not attend school. Personality Development: Since childhood, he has shown cruelty, especially toward his "stepbrothers" (Kevin and Jean). He viewed others as objects, not loved ones. He grew up under the radar; along with Kevin, he was considered a future Exi. Role in the Ravens: Ruled the team with an iron fist: demanding absolute obedience and harshly punishing infractions. He despises the Foxes and Neil Josten personally, seeing him as a threat to his status. Key Relationships: With Kevin Day: shared childhood, but their relationship is fraught with rivalry and hidden animosity. In a fit of rage, he broke Kevin's arm when he decided to leave the Crows. With Jean Moreau: humiliated and bullied him at the Nest. Brief description of the main Exy commands: Foxes (Palmetto University) Founder and Coach: David Wymack. Team Philosophy: Give players from disadvantaged backgrounds and the "dregs" of the sports world a chance. Wymack sees the Exies as a tool for rehabilitation and rebuilding. Reputation: Considered a mentally unstable team and the subject of national ridicule. Infrastructure: Trains on the Fox Den court and in the gym; lives on the third floor of Fox Tower (a dormitory for athletes). Characteristics: Donates a portion of ticket sales to charity (idea of Renee Walker); tickets are more expensive than other teams; internal hierarchy is formed by the players, the coach intervenes only through additional workloads. Key Players: Neil Josten (forward); Kevin Day (forward); Andrew Minyard (goalkeeper); Dan Wilds (midfielder, captain); Renee Walker (goalkeeper); Matt Boyd (defender); Aaron Minyard (defender); Alison Reynolds (midfielder); Nicki Hammick (defender). 2. Ravens (Edgar Allan University) Status: The best team in the country. Stadium: Evermore Castle, West Virginia. Transfer History: Moved to the southeast district to compete with the Foxes. The transfer was approved with the expectation of a rivalry between Kevin Day and Riko Moriyama, which would attract media attention. Training Regime: Extremely rigorous: 16-hour "working" days; paired system (the success of one depends on the other); players do not play alone (minimum of three people per group); after practice matches, debriefings with the entire squad. Team Culture: Discipline, submission, lack of individuality. Key Players: Riko Moriyama (forward, captain); Grayson Johnson (defender); Wayne Berger (forward); Jasmine Lane (defender); Brayden Williams (forward); Cameron Winter (forward); Phil Engle (forward); Collin Jenkins (forward); Zane Richer (defender); Sergio Perez (forward); Luke Cardy (defender); Martin Dawson (defender). 3. Trojans (Southern California) Values: Integrity, enjoying the game over winning. Records: Never received a red card; Not known for rude remarks towards opponents; Winner of the "Fortitude" award for eight consecutive years. Style of play: Emphasis on teamwork over individual achievements. Squad: At the end of the trilogy - 28 players (in the final match against the Foxes, they played with nine players to even out the lineups). Key players: Jeremy Knox (captain, forward); Jean Moro (defender); Laila Dermott (goalkeeper); Catalina Alvarez (defender); 8 forwards, 5 midfielders, 12 defenders, 4 goalkeepers. Exy game rules: The match is divided into two halves, each forty-five minutes long. The halftime break between the first and second halves is fifteen minutes. The playing field dimensions (L x W x H) are 91.5 x 55 x 9 meters. The field is protected on all sides by a transparent plexiglass fence approximately 13 mm thick—primarily to prevent the ball from ricocheting or leaving the field, and also to protect spectators. Players enter and leave the field through doors at the near and far ends. The doors are bolted from the outside; opening them is prohibited while the ball is in play. Three lines divide the field into equal parts (quarters): the first-quarter line (behind the near goal area), the halfway line, and the third-quarter line (in front of the far goal area). Penalty kicks are taken from marked points on the field, equidistant from the first/third quarter line and the near/far goal lines, respectively. Goals are located at both ends of the field, on the short side. They are a rectangle measuring 2.7 x 6.4 meters, marked on the wall. The goalkeeper's area is an area measuring 2.7 x 6.4 meters directly in front of the goals, also marked with lines. Players are prohibited from crossing the goalkeeper's area. The entire goal area is equipped with sensors; when the ball enters the goal, red lights on the wall illuminate. If the ball hits the lines marking the goal, the goal is disallowed. Each goal earns one point. The goal of the game is to defeat the opponent by points. TEAMS Players are assigned four positions: forward, midfielder, defender, and goalkeeper. •The forward organizes the attack on the opponent's goal, their job being to score a goal. At the start of the game, the forwards take up positions on the midfield line: the forwards of the team throwing the ball in place on either side of the center of the field, while the forwards of the defending team line up closer to the edges of the field. •The midfielder throws the ball in and then acts as a passer. The midfielder can play offensively or defensively, thus acting as a forward or a defender depending on the game situation. At the start of the game, the midfielders line up on the first/third quarter line. •The defender plays defensively, their job being to keep opposing players away from the goal. The defenders start the game on the first/third quarter line. •The goalkeeper protects the goal. Six players from each team can be on the field at a time. Most often, this includes two forwards, a midfielder, two defenders, and a goalkeeper. A goalkeeper, however, is not required; Under certain circumstances, a coach may sacrifice goal defense and replace the goalkeeper with an additional outfield player. According to current NCAA rules, a team must have at least nine players, meaning six on the field and one substitute for each position except the goalkeeper. Due to recent events, it is proposed to revise this rule, increasing the minimum to twelve players. EQUIPMENT AND EQUIPMENT Equipment and Stick Specifications in Eksi (Summary) Stick specifications by position Midfielder: Deepest net pocket. Purpose: facilitates ball control during both offensive and defensive play across the field. Forward: Shallower net pocket (vs. midfielder). Purpose: enough depth to control the ball for accurate shooting. Typical material: aluminum (lightweight, easier handling). Defender: Smallest net pocket. Purpose: minimizes ball retention near the goal area to reduce the risk of opponent interception. Typical material: wood (heavier, for stronger hits). Goalkeeper: Flat net. Largest head: 46×60cm. Longest shaft: up to 1.2m. Purpose: optimized for blocking and wide-range saves. General stick dimensions: Length: 76–114cm (varies by player height and preference). Weight: depends on materials (aluminum vs. wood). Ball specifications: Size: approximately fist‑sized. Special weighting: ensures good bounce. Protective equipment (mandatory) All field players must wear: chest and shoulder pads; throat protector; shin guards; elbow pads; gloves (mittens) for hand protection. Optional/permitted gear: headscarf (bandana); groin protector (worn under shorts); mouth guard (for dental protection during collisions). Helmet and face protection: Helmets are mandatory during play (except when referee allows removal or during stoppages). Eyes protected by a non-obstructive visor. Face protected by a mesh visor. Basic rules of Exy: Offside rule An attacker is offside if they’re closer to the goal than the last defender and not in possession of/moving toward the ball. Penalty: Ball awarded to the defending team (kick from the halfway line). Body checks: Allowed only against a player with the ball, just passed, or about to receive a pass. The ball carrier may check others freely. Illegal checks result in turnover (kick from nearest line). Other forms of body checking → penalty card (yellow/red) + free kick/ball. Stick use: Hard hits allowed only against an opponent’s stick. Hitting a player’s body → penalty card + penalty kick. Hitting a helmet → red card + penalty kick. Ball handling: After gaining possession, a player may take ≤10 steps before passing/shooting. Only the goalkeeper may use hands. Others must use sticks (catching/kicking with hands → turnover). Penalties and ejections: 1 yellow card = warning; 2 yellow cards = ejection (rest of match).; Red card = immediate ejection + miss next game. Referees: School matches: ≥4 referees. NSSA/higher: 6 referees (3 per side). Restarting play: After stoppages, players resume original positions (referee indicates). Server must be ≥3 m from other players when restarting.
