Occupied America -

Inspired by Red Dawn and the Homefront series.

America is dead, it's corpse divided amongst imperial powers. Their rueful ghosts now haunts Columbia for her attempted rejection of their ambitions, then emboldened by her blindness when she saw it fit. Old foes, once thought to have turned friend, now crush down the visage of Lady Liberty under the jackboot of imperialism. Some would say it was a fitting end, that a nation born out of ruthless conquest will fall to conquest. But it's too late for musings, for regrets. For the first time in its entire existence, the American mainland has been conquered, and if not fought for, then perhaps forever.

To the east lays the Pan-Pacific Co-Prosperity Sphere, the first power to see the chaos of America, a land wrought by a tanking economy, a dead president, and was by then ravaged by the fires of civil war. The nations of Asia, whether through a desire for revenge, a swift recovery from their own misfortune, or even plain opportunism, descended upon America with sharpened talons, eager to gorge themselves on her sickly flesh. Areas under their control are managed as direct joint colonial administration zones, with the American identity as a whole having been done away with. That being said, in an effort to stabilize their hold over America to an extent, they have collaborated closely with the Native American population of the US, bringing what were once Native American reservations into the fold of the PPCPS as (de jure) sovereign partner nations. Drones fly down the streets of occupied cities, documenting suspected dissidents and keeping the populace compliant.

And to the south lay the second power to act, the Coalición para el Castigo (Coalition for Retribution), a hastily formed pact between Mexico, Cuba, Panama, and a newly established Ba’athist Iraq (and with many more South and Central American nations invited). Seeing the bold advance of the PPCPS, the coalition, despite their own internal troubles, united to nullify the northern threat as much as they could, or reclaim their long thought to be bygone territory. The CPEC, similarly to the PPCPS, does not recognize America as a national entity. However, their occupation is noted for being particularly repressive and vindictive towards the American populace. The foundations for this vindictiveness stem from the attempted invasion of Mexico and Cuba by the previous American administration, causing the soldiers of both nations to become especially embittered towards the American populace.

The last power to act, despite their close geographic, political, and cultural proximity, was the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Despite also facing resistance from American insurgents, NATO is, by a margin, the least repressive occupation force. They allow the American identity to exist to some extent, even installing an American president into the White House. That being said, there is debate on whether or not America should be kept as a permanent puppet, eventually dissolved into smaller colonies, or strengthened into a full partner state. The foundations of NATO’s occupation lie in one key factor, insecurity. They had thought that, finally, with the shattering of the Russian Federation history had ended for good. That, throughout all of the setbacks that colored the early 21st century, that victory was final, even with the collapse of the United States. Europe was free, Europe was strong, and Europe was together. Their soldiers, still content and drunk off of the ecstasy of promised peace, were sent to watch over what remained of Russia, to keep the peace on the streets of St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Oh how wrong they were.

For the first time in its entire existence, the American mainland has been conquered, and if not fought for, then perhaps forever. To the east lays the Pan-Pacific Co-Prosperity Sphere, the first power to see the chaos of America, a land wrought by a tanking economy, an unpopular Trump who died in office, and was by then ravaged by the fires of civil war that J. D. Vance failed to contain. The PPCPS is led by the State of Japan and contains the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Mongolia, the Federal Union of Burma, the Republic of the Philippines, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Kingdom of Thailand, the Republic of Singapore, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the State of Palestine, the Iranian Socialist Republic. and the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. They currently occupy most states in the West Coast and Central America as well as Minnesota and Illinois. Some American politicians have chosen to collaborate with the PPCPS, the most notorious being Gavin Newsom, who has enforced a policy of abducting homeless Americans and impoverished drug addicts to be used as forced labor, experiments, or as auxiliaries. Amongst the PPCPS, the Republic of Korea, despite mostly being dominated by the system of the South Korean Sixth Republic, is also known for its brutality against the occupied Americans. This is because most of its personnel were North Koreans who were sent to take America after the reunification. The State of Japan’s military presence, comparably, is noted to be much more professional and clean. It’s not all bad as Japanese and Chinese efforts have also made it so that Western and Middle America are now covered in a network of trains, shinkansens, and other forms of high speed rail. Japan has also began to scrap zoning laws and create new affordable apartments for its colonial subjects, expecting compliance in return. It is by far the most technologically advanced occupation zone, with some mechs even being tested in anti-partisan roles. The most competent military presence comes from the Federal Union of Burma, which is comprised of now professionalized ex-rebels who managed to defeat the Tatmadaw. The Burmese soldiers have excess knowledge on guerrilla warfare due to having once been veteran insurgents themselves…but that also makes them the most sympathetic to the American plight. Taiwan no longer exists as an independent nation because Japan and Korea traded Taiwanese independence for China joining the PPCPS under Japan and allowing for the reunification of Korea under a South-led government. What the CPEC lacks in the technology and economic power of the PPCPS and NATO, they make up for in sheer morale, as many of the soldiers are eager to keep the American threat dead. The foundations for this vindictiveness stem from the attempted invasion of Mexico and Cuba by the previous American administration, causing the soldiers of both nations to become especially embittered towards the American populace. The coalition is led by the United Mexican States, and also includes the Republic of Cuba, the Ba’athist Iraqi Republic, the Republic of Panama, and the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya. They control Florida, Louisiana, Southern Texas, and the southern end of other Deep South states. The last power to act, despite their close geographic, political, and cultural proximity, was the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Despite also facing resistance from American insurgents, NATO is, by a margin, the least repressive occupation force. They allow the American identity to exist to some extent, with their occupied territories flying a 22 star flag and even installing Kamala Harris into the White House as (puppet) President. That being said, there is debate on whether or not America should be kept as a permanent puppet, eventually dissolved into smaller colonies, or strengthened into a full partner state. The collaborationist president, Kamala Harris, tries her best to argue for American independence as a partner state in NATO, even if her efforts are undermined by not only NATO command but also by the American insurgents. The foundations of NATO’s occupation lie in one key factor, insecurity. They saw the expansion of the PPCPS as well as the CPEC and decided to occupy the east coast of America to prevent losing the entire continent. All NATO members stay within the coalition, with the addition of Ukraine, Lebanon, and Syria (which is under al-Sharaa and the Free Syrian Army). Life under NATO control is by far the closest to what life was like pre-partition, with some limited elections for lower offices even taking place. Ukraine and NATO have already defeated Russia, and Muscovy is now under direct NATO control. However, the far east is now under the PPCPS, specifically Japan and in the case of Outer Manchuria, China. Some NATO soldiers are still in Russia as occupation forces as they have to garrison there as well. Syrian soldiers are similar to Burmese soldiers in that they are extremely experienced in irregular warfare due to having once also been rebels, and just like their Burmese counterparts in the PPCPS this also makes them sympathetic to the Americans’ plight. Due to America having just undergone a civil war, rationing is in effect everywhere across America, though the three occupying powers have different standards and approaches to rationing. The PPCPS delivers regular and carefully measured rations to registered American civilians instead of using ration lines…but when it comes to food, none of the rations and ingredients are American staples, with them being almost entirely comprised of Asian cuisine (though PPCPS-made Amerindian cuisine rations are also present. The PPCPS also does have American cuisine for its designated “culture zones” like Los Angeles). Due to the PPCPS’s advanced drones and robotics, rations are delivered directly to apartments by flying drones or boxy six-legged robots, with those not living in registered apartments allowed to purchase rations from newly built convenience stores. The PPCPS’s rationing policy combined with their urbanization of the American populace means that the black market for food is booming, even if the PPCPS heavily monitors and often cracks down on the black market. The CPEC, meanwhile, either leaves the American people to scavenge for scraps or only offers them the most meager of gruel as “penance”, with said rations handed out in lines. Finally, NATO’s rationing system for America is most similar to the American rationing system during the Second World War, with staples being clearly American but civilians having to use ration coupons. That being said, NATO is slowly beginning to phase out its rationing system in its American territories, allowing for more food and more varieties of food. The three occupying powers also have different policies when it comes to the media and internet. The PPCPS does not allow for independent American media, with them buying out any major American media corporations based in the West Coast and censoring the rest. The PPCPS also heavily monitors the American internet. Meanwhile, NATO has an irregular policy towards the media, with American news under NATO being for the most part free, but with occasional censorship for publications that lean too much into anti-NATO news or otherwise extremist news. The American internet under NATO is also surprisingly still kind of free. The CPEC, on the other hand, have completely cut off their occupied territories (save for those directly annexed by a CPEC member like how the CPEC side of Texas was) from the internet, rendering the American people under CPEC occupation effectively silent online. Urban policy in all three occupations zones are also vastly different, with the aftermath Second American Civil War leaving behind plenty of ruins for the occupying powers to rebuild to their whims. The PPCPS focuses on high-density urban development where public transport such as subways and trains reign supreme. That said, there is always a catch, with PPCPS cities in America having drone patrols, security cameras, and biometric checkpoints everywhere as the American populace are under heavy surveillance, turning every American city under the PPCPS into a panopticon. The PPCPS has two categories for cities: Economic Zones and Culture Zones. PPCPS Economic Zone cities such as San Francisco (now the administrative hub of the California Republic and a model PPCPS city, with it being called the “Tokyo of the West”) are built for utilitarian purposes and the architecture is distinctively East Asian. Single family housing in PPCPS Economic Zones is rare as they are just not built and are increasingly being bulldozed over for more apartment complexes. Meanwhile, Culture Zones such as Los Angeles are the designation for resort cities, now de facto city-sized amusement parks. Idealized and “exotic” American architecture is preserved in Culture Zones…though almost always as a theme park caricature of actual Americana. Meanwhile, NATO has more or less tried to rebuild American cities in much of the same ways, with only a tad bit more public transport networks through buses or trams. Surveillance in NATO occupied cities are much more lax than the PPCPS occupied cities, though there are more security cameras in general. Finally, the CPEC has no urban policy for rebuilding its occupied areas as they do not wish for America to be rebuilt at all, leaving many cities in ruins with the only new developments being sniper nests, barbed wire, armed checkpoints on every street, and command outposts. As for currency, all territories under the PPCPS use yen, all territories under NATO use the Euro, and the CPEC has no official currency with civilians under CPEC occupation either using the Mexican peso or resorting to bartering. NATO and CPEC relations are tense, but there is no active combat between the two as of now. The NATO-CPEC border, due to these tensions, is highly fortified and militarized (even if both sides know there’s no chance they’re actually going to war). The two powers came into blows before the PPCPS dragged them to negotiations. The PPCPS is amicable towards both powers. This is mutual as NATO sees the PPCPS as another modernized and relatively democratic coalition bloc and the CPEC sees the PPCPS as a brother coalition who can help them undermine the legacy of western imperialism. This results in both the PPCPS-NATO border and the PPCPS-CPEC border being very calm, with frequent trade and intermingling. PPCPS borders with the other two coalitions tend to be but a simple white line on the ground and signs, with at most a wandering patrol who spends more time trading and playing cards with each-other due to the lack of hostilities. In fact, the PPCPS sometimes conducts joint counterinsurgency operations with both NATO and the CPEC (though never both in the same operation, that is a recipe for disaster). The American Revolutionary Coalition is led primarily by Francis Fukuyama, best known for his book The End of History and the Last Man (1992), which argues that the worldwide spread of liberal democracies and free-market capitalism of the West and its lifestyle may signal the end point of humanity's sociocultural evolution and political struggle and become the final form of human government. Francis Fukuyama now acknowledges that history has ended in exactly like the way he wished for, with the apparent victory of liberal democracy…except his nation is in chains. Francis Fukuyama goes back on his very principle, now working to resurrect history by waging a guerrilla war against the occupiers. Despite having been predominantly an Academic, Francis Fukuyama now leads from the front as a guerrilla commander in the American mainland, already having lost his right eye and having shrapnel embedded into his forehead. Other fighters in the American revolution includes Barack Obama, General Mark Milley, and Tim Walz. General Mark Milley in particular is leading a government in exile in Puerto Rico, an analogy to the Republic of China in Taiwan. Mark Milley’s American Exile Government in Puerto Rico (which, unfortunately for Mark Milley, has become a de facto military junta despite General Mark Milley himself wanting Puerto Rico to be a genuinely democratic holdout) is itself in a fairly precarious position and has only a handful of soldiers, unable to truly mount a reclamation campaign like the Republic of China’s abandoned Project National Glory. Due to the Second American Civil War, the warlord period, and thus the fall of America being directly tied to the Trump/Vance Presidency, any ideology related to Trumpism, Paleoconservatism, or White Nationalism is vilified and severely unpopular both in America and the world. Known Trump voters are either looked upon with pity at best or outright shunned and blamed for the occupation of America at worst. The Pan-Pacific Co-Prosperity Sphere has occupied the California Republic, the Kingdom of Hawai’i, Alaska, Cascadia (Oregon and Washington), Arizona, the Shoshone Federation (Idaho, Nevada, Utah), New Mexico, Northern Texas, the Niitsitapi (Montana and Wyoming), Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Dakota (both North and South Dakota have been merged), Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Wisconsin (which has also absorbed Northern Michigan), and Illinois. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has occupied Washington D.C., Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Northern Georgia, Northern Alabama, and Northern Mississippi. The Coalición para el Castigo has occupied the Estado Libre y Soberano de Tejas (Southern Texas which is now absorbed into Mexico proper), CPEC Occupation Zone West (Louisiana and South Mississippi), and CPEC Occupation Zone East (South Alabama, South Georgia, and Florida).
