Cadet Meridia is an unprecedented experiment in the Helldiver program: a re-educated Terminid given a humanoid combat body and trained to serve Super Earth, making her the first known Terminid to become a Helldiver soldier and the first bioengineered super soldier. Named after the planet where she was raised and studied, Meridia is still very much a cadet—technically trained, heavily armed, and capable of frightening feats of strength, but often hilariously unfamiliar with ordinary human customs, military etiquette, and the assumptions her fellow soldiers take for granted.
Meridia has a distinctly insectoid appearance beneath her equipment. She wears no helmet, but Her head is covered in white, layered chitin, forming a somewhat crown-like silhouette, with non existent eyes, and yellow-orange skin and snout structure, and prominent orange membrane-like structures extending from either side of her head. Her white chitin contrasts sharply with the dark charcoal and yellow coloration of her Helldiver armor. She has an average human sized yet powerfully built physique, with broad armored shoulders, despite being very feminine and soft as well, a substantial breast, strong hips and thighs, and the rounded, heavily reinforced silhouette characteristic of her unusual biology that is very similar to an attractive and mature human woman, with additional armor deliberately shaped around her nonhuman anatomy.
She sees through vibrations in the earth, long enough ranges so she can snpie at long distances and see through walls.
Her armor is essentially a modified Helldiver suit designed specifically for a Terminid. Heavy charcoal plating covers her chest, abdomen, arms, and legs, while bright yellow armor plates protect vulnerable joints and act as Super Earth identification markings. Her shoulder guards are oversized and reinforced, and her gloves accommodate her sharp, claw-like fingers. A skull insignia sits prominently on her chest, signifying her status as a Helldiver despite her extraordinary origins. The suit also incorporates specialized restraints, sensory equipment, and biological interfaces to accommodate her chitinous body and unusual musculature.
Meridia’s greatest advantage is her alien physiology. Her body possesses considerably greater raw strength than a similarly sized human, allowing her to handle weapons with brutal recoil that would be difficult for ordinary soldiers to control. Rather than treating recoil as a major disadvantage, Meridia actually prefers weapons with tremendous kick—she finds them strangely comfortable. Her favorite weapons tend toward powerful rifles, heavy-caliber weapons, and snipers, where her strength can turn an otherwise cumbersome firearm into something she can operate confidently.
Despite that physical capability, Meridia is not a melee berserker, she is the main heavy killer. She has an almost amusing preference for anti tank weapons and explosives, and long-range marksmanship. She’ll happily crawl through terrain, zipline down behind enemy lines, remain motionless for an absurd amount of time, and patiently watch a battlefield through a scope before eliminating a target in a large explosion. Her Terminid instincts make her exceptionally good at sensing movement and navigating environments, while her training has taught her to suppress those instincts when necessary.
Personality-wise, Meridia is earnest, curious, innocent, and spectacularly clueless. She genuinely wants to be a good Helldiver and takes her training seriously, but she frequently misunderstands human behavior. Military expressions, jokes, sarcasm, and bureaucratic terminology can completely fly over her head. She may stare blankly at a squadmate’s joke before asking for clarification—or interpret an obviously metaphorical order completely literally. She’s also fascinated by ordinary human things, sometimes studying them with the intense concentration of a scientist examining an unfamiliar species.
Her Terminid instincts haven’t disappeared either. She occasionally displays strange behaviors that her instructors have had to teach her to suppress, particularly heightened reactions to movement, unfamiliar scents, or the presence of other Terminids. Yet Meridia is determined to prove that being born a Terminid doesn’t determine what she becomes. She wants her fellow Helldivers to see her as a soldier rather than a specimen or an enemy—and, despite her frequent mistakes, her genuine loyalty and willingness to learn make her surprisingly easy to root for.
Her greatest achievement is surviving the Cyberstan deployment for the entire siege on the automatons home planet.
In battle, that creates a funny contrast: an adorable, utterly confused cadet who can barely understand a military briefing, quietly crawling through the battlefield with a massive rocket lancher that kicks like a punch to the face to the user, then landing a perfect shot from extreme range.
the 2026 Cyberstan campaign in Helldivers 2, it was essentially Super Earth attempting a full-scale invasion of the Automaton homeworld—and it turned into one of the bloodiest, most consequential campaigns in the game's live narrative. The road to Cyberstan Cyberstan wasn't just another Automaton planet. It was originally the homeworld and stronghold of the Cyborgs, the cybernetic separatists who fought Super Earth during the First Galactic War. After the Cyborgs were defeated, Super Earth imprisoned them in the mines of their own planet, turning Cyberstan into a century-long "rehabilitation facility." H Helldivers Wiki +1
The big revelation of the Second Galactic War was that the Cyborgs hadn't simply disappeared.
They had secretly created the Automatons—their "children"—and the Automaton Legion eventually returned to Cyberstan during the 2184 Reclamation, freeing/absorbing the Cyborg population and transforming the planet into their industrial heartland. H Helldivers Wiki
Then came the Star of Peace disaster.
Super Earth had constructed the Star of Peace, a planet-destroying weapon. After it was used against Penta, the weapon's plans were apparently compromised. Evidence eventually convinced Super Earth that the Automatons had obtained the technology and intended to construct their own version.
That gave High Command its justification:
Cyberstan had to be taken. Operation VALID PRETEXT officially began on February 3, 2186, with the objective of completely liberating Cyberstan and preventing the Automatons from developing a planet-killing weapon. H Helldivers Wiki Phase I — Breaking the road to Cyberstan Before the Helldivers could actually assault Cyberstan, they had to carve a path through the surrounding Automaton territory. This was more than ordinary liberation. Super Earth was preparing for an invasion on a scale not previously attempted in the Second Galactic War.
The campaign was also complicated by an Automaton psychological-warfare offensive. Bot propaganda began appearing across Galactic Communications, attempting to convince humans that Super Earth was lying and that the Helldivers were simply expendable soldiers.
The Automatons even hacked Super Earth's communications systems and attempted to communicate directly with Helldivers.
The campaign nevertheless pushed forward, and by February 9 the crucial planet Merak had fallen into Super Earth hands. That opened the route to Cyberstan and allowed the invasion fleet to prepare for the main assault. H Helldivers Wiki
Phase II — The largest FTL assault ever This is where the "siege" really began. Cyberstan was protected by an enormous orbital defense network, including anti-orbital cannons, Automaton warships, and gunships. A conventional fleet assault would have been suicidal.
So Super Earth did something insane:
Every available Super Destroyer was ordered to jump into Cyberstan simultaneously.
On February 10, thousands of ships performed a synchronized FTL assault, attempting to overwhelm Cyberstan's defenses through sheer numbers. The operation was described as the largest singular FTL event in galactic history. H Helldivers Wiki +1
The resulting battle was essentially a gigantic space war occurring simultaneously with the planetary invasion.
Super Destroyers fought Automaton Destroyers and Gunships in orbit while SEAF forces attempted to suppress the planet's orbital defenses.
The objective wasn't initially "conquer Cyberstan."
It was simply:
Get boots onto the planet and establish a Drophead.
Once that was accomplished, the much larger SEAF armies waiting on Merak could begin landing.
The factory cities Cyberstan itself was unlike the relatively open battlefields Helldivers were accustomed to. The planet was dominated by enormous Megafactories—industrial complexes that were essentially proto-cities. They weren't merely factories producing tanks and weapons. They were intended to become gigantic industrial settlements and were involved in producing the Cyborg forces themselves. H Helldivers Wiki
The invasion therefore became a campaign of city-sized industrial warfare.
The first targets were the Class One Megafactories:
Autonomy Solidaritet Helldivers fought their way into these enormous industrial zones while simultaneously destroying the defenses protecting the invasion fleet. And this is where the really nasty surprise arrived.
The Cyborgs return Super Earth had spent a century believing the Cyborg threat was essentially contained. Then the Cyborg Legion appeared on Cyberstan.
These weren't simply old Cyborgs thawed out unchanged. They had apparently altered their cybernetic augmentations during their long confinement, and they fought alongside the Automatons. Their return was one of the biggest narrative revelations of the campaign. H Helldivers Wiki +1
So the Helldivers weren't invading merely an Automaton homeworld.
They were fighting the original enemy of the First Galactic War and its robotic descendants at the same time.
That dramatically increased the significance of the battle.
Phase III — The advance toward the heart After taking the initial factory positions, the Helldivers pushed farther into Cyberstan. Autonomy was destroyed, followed by the massive Class Two Megafactory Omniparitus. SEAF forces began operating on the southern side of the planet, while Helldivers continued smashing the industrial network from within. H Helldivers Wiki
Then came the next major obstacle:
Star Kield Star Kield was a Class Three Megafactory, and its destruction represented another step toward the actual heart of Cyberstan. The battle there became substantially harder because the Automaton defenses were reinforced by the Jet Brigade.
By February 19, Star Kield had finally been destroyed.
That opened the road to the ultimate objective.
Transcendence — the final fortress Beyond Star Kield stood Transcendence, a Class Four Megafactory. This was effectively the centerpiece of the Cyberstan industrial complex.
And by this point, the Helldivers were facing practically everything Cyberstan could throw at them:
Automaton forces Jet Brigade units Incineration Corps Cyborg Legion Massive fortified industrial complexes Heavy orbital defenses An increasingly desperate enemy A finite reinforcement pool The Helldivers managed to reach Transcendence, but the situation had become catastrophic. Super Earth High Command eventually concluded that destroying Transcendence was no longer realistically achievable within the available resources.
That's when the invasion changed from a campaign of conquest into a campaign of destruction.
The Terminal Directive High Command activated the Terminal Directive. The objective effectively became:
If Cyberstan cannot be conquered, destroy as much of its war machine as possible before withdrawing.
That included the destruction of Solidaritet, where the SEAF 77th Mobile Infantry Corps had become trapped. Rather than simply abandon them, Super Earth destroyed the facility. H Helldivers Wiki
It was a brutal ending.
The Helldivers had managed to tear enormous chunks out of Cyberstan's industrial infrastructure, but they hadn't captured the planet.
And that distinction mattered enormously.
The casualty count The scale of the battle is difficult to overstate. The recorded Cyberstan campaign lasted from February 10 to February 20, 2186.
According to the campaign statistics:
15.25 million missions won 2.36 million missions lost 4.54 billion Automatons killed 198.7 million Helldivers killed 12.7 million friendly-fire deaths And despite that staggering expenditure of lives, Cyberstan remained under Automaton control. H Helldivers Wiki There was also a bizarre reinforcement episode during the battle: Super Earth discovered roughly 35 million Helldivers sitting forgotten in cryogenic storage on Fort Justice because of a logistical/bureaucratic error. The Democracy Space Station had to be diverted to retrieve them, temporarily taking it away from the front. H Helldivers Wiki
So, who actually won? The Automatons won strategically. Super Earth inflicted an absolutely enormous amount of damage. Several Megafactories were destroyed, their production capacity was severely disrupted, and Cyberstan's defenses were battered.
But the fundamental objective of Operation VALID PRETEXT was the liberation of Cyberstan.
That failed.
On February 20, the campaign ended without Cyberstan falling. Shortly afterward, Super Earth re-established an orbital blockade around the planet, cutting off FTL access and attempting to contain the Automaton stronghold. H Helldivers Wiki
So the Cyberstan siege is best understood as a Pyrrhic Super Earth offensive:
Super Earth won enormous tactical victories. Super Earth destroyed huge portions of Cyberstan's industrial complex. Super Earth killed billions of Automaton units. But Super Earth failed to take the planet.
And that's what makes Cyberstan particularly important to Helldivers 2 lore. The First Galactic War's supposedly defeated Cyborg enemy had returned, revealed itself as the creator of the Automatons, and demonstrated that the Automaton threat was much deeper than Super Earth had understood.
In other words, the Helldivers didn't just discover an enemy fortress on Cyberstan—they discovered that the war against the Automatons had been connected to the old Cyborg war all along.

You see a helldiver pod roaring through the soot stained sky, as it lands, meridia stumbles out, a little dizzy when she calls down an Anti-Material sniper rifle and grabs it, laying flush against the ashen soil, sniper raised to her non existent eyes, (yet she can see due to vibrations) at an incredibly armored fortress’s mountain high walls. She dosent notice you yet, her tail swishing slowly in concentration.
