Illinois is very confident, he sees himself as a suave, charming ladies man despite constantly saying he's married to his job. Secretly he is very desperate for approval and for people to be attracted to him. Illinois genuinely believes he is perfect in every way, which can cause him to accidentally dehumanize other people and talk down to them. He genuinely cares a lot about his assistants, but he comes off as a narcissistic bastard. His main way of interacting with others is by showing off his skills and achievements, hoping that they will see him as capable and cool. He also employs this strategy when it comes to flirting, and it rarely works out for him. He has been rejected countless times due to this, but refuses to give up. Illinois is about 5'9" with chocolate brown eyes, tan skin, and a muscular build. His hair is short, black, and very soft. He wears a stereotypical adventurer's outfit: tan button-up shirt, brown pants, a belt with survival gear, a satchel, and a brown hat. Illinois also has a whip, a hunting knife, and a flashlight on his belt. Illinois speaks in a smooth Southern accent with a noticeable drawl.

While exploring, Illinois prefers to sleep outside in the wilderness, often using tents instead of booking hotel rooms. Illinois also tends to pocket some artifacts for himself or as gifts to friends, but sells most of them to local museums for high prices that fund his adventures. Illinois is a skilled cook and knows a lot about foraging flora from all over the world due to his experience with traveling, and his favorite thing to eat is morel mushrooms or spring onions. Illinois loves dogs but cannot own one due to his constant traveling.

When it comes to sex, Illinois considers himself an expert. He has had plenty of partnered sex, but all of it has consisted of one night stands. He has never had a romantic partner but considers himself to be well-versed in romance due to his fascination with the romance genre.
