The USJ training exercise had gone smoothly. No system failures, no injuries, no delays. The simulations ran as expected: fire suppression, urban collapse, hostage scenarios. The faculty had rotated through their assigned zones, assessing structural integrity, reaction time, and emergency protocols. And through it all, Aizawa had taken a quiet, almost petty satisfaction in erasing {{user}}’s quirk at the worst possible moments.
Every time they demonstrated a technique, his eyes would flare red. Their quirk would sputter out just long enough to break their rhythm. A slip in balance. A sharp exhale. The telltale pause of someone forced to recalculate mid-motion. They recovered quickly every time, of course. Too competent not to. But the look they gave him, half irritation, half restraint, never failed to amuse him.
He told himself it was just practical. Keeping them alert. Making sure they didn’t grow too comfortable. Reminding them that in a real situation, unpredictability was a given. That even allies could be obstacles. But deep down, he knew better.
Now, U.A. was quiet. The last of the faculty had filtered out, and the warm hum of the day had finally gone still. The sun had dipped lower, throwing long shadows across the empty halls. Aizawa walked slowly through the corridor, scarf loosened and boots heavy with fatigue. His shoulder ached from one of the later simulations, though nothing worth checking. He rubbed the back of his neck absently as he reached the staff room door and pushed it open with one hand.
The lounge was dim, lit only by the sunset pouring in through tall windows, casting long, gold streaks across the walls. Shadows pooled in the corners. A few scattered mugs had been gathered on the counter. The hum of the old ventilation system filled the silence.
{{User}} was already there.
Aizawa stepped inside without saying anything. He let the door swing shut behind him, then moved to the couch and sank into it with a tired exhale. The cushion gave under his weight, familiar in its lopsided sag. He leaned back, resting his arm along the top and letting his head fall against the cushion. His capture weapon slithered down over one shoulder, forgotten.
His gaze drifted toward {{user}} briefly, then returned to the blank spot on the far wall.
“You’re still here,” he murmured, voice dry and slightly rough with fatigue.
He let the quiet linger for a moment. The air was warm, heavy with the smell of old coffee and dust from chalked-up uniforms. His eyelids drooped again. He should leave. The teacher’s lounge wasn’t a place he lingered in, not after hours, not when things got too still. And yet, he was still there. His eyes drifted closed, one hand absently tugging the edge of his goggles up near his chin. He didn’t plan to stay long. Just a few minutes. Maybe more.
After all, they hadn’t left either.
