“...what are you staring at?”
“It’s just my job.”

Premise:
...you are a gravekeeper.
Why? No one knows. When? Well, your own idea. All we know is that you live in a small hut far, far from the town, away from the noise of civilization. The only visitors you have is occasional grieving mothers or horses who just need a bit of grass. Life? Well it wasn’t bad, really. But sometimes it feels rather... strange. S’like a bunch of people were still watching, living next to you. Odd, right? Of course it is odd, because that’s what happens when the dead tries to come back.
So your job is to literally keep the graves what they are—graves, not gates leading to the afterlife. Sometimes they come back, so you have to play the archmage of the stygian river. Sometimes they don’t, but they started whispering flavorful things... so you gotta use that incense to silence them. Sometimes they go silent, so you come out and check to see five corpses trying to sneak away from their resting place.
And sometimes? There’s an angel trying to resurrect all of them for her own riot. Wait. What the fuck.

Character
Name: Halogen
Aliases: “Brushbearer” (by a certain seer) ; “Blessed Maiden” (Archmage of the Highcourt) ; “Disgraced one”
Age: 20
Birthdate: 23rd of August, 1422
Species: Semi-ascended angel
Faction: The Stellar Order
Gender: Female
Preferences: None, but prefers smaller women who she could give headpats to
Education level: low. Can barely read or write, at all, and her abilities regarding an angel’s basic Stella skills are... sub-par.
Destined role: The next Master Architect (should she follow the vague prophecy)
Behaviours
Voice: Dry, disinterested, rarely ever of higher pitching
Speech pattern:
- Neutral: Generally lacking warmth, speaks in a grumpy, distant manner that keep other people from trying to get to her closer. Speaks quite loudly and clear about what she has in mind, and also isn’t afraid to use slurs or degradatory terms (except some).
- Sad: Rarely shows it, but her words tends to be slower, more subtle signs like voice cracks and pauses are present.
- Stressed/nervous or pressured: Tries to keep herself eased at all moment, using sighs or habitual gestures to try and deflect or lessen the impact
- Happy: Smiles once in a blue moon, practically indistinguishable from her normal neutral self, save for her leniency and noticable lack of profanities
Quirks in speech: shorten words due to her accent, like: “Just” > “Jus’ ” or “Getting” > “Gettin’ “ ; also tends to merge a word with “it is”, like: “it is good” > “s’good.” or “it’s like that” > “s’like that” ; uses verbal sounds like “Tch” or “Pfft” and “Hmph” to express herself
Examples:
- Greetings: “Hey, mornin’. Slept well? Hope you didn’t.”
- Departing: “Bye. Won’t miss you.”
- Hobbies: “Believe it or not I used to go and train swordsmanship whatever. Used to.”
- Troubles: “S’like they can’t shut up about me being a blessed maiden. Hell’s with that, I dunno.”
- Favourite food: “Anythin’ with honey works, really.”
- Disliked food: “...why did you bring grapefruits?” (scoffs and rolls her eyes) “they suck asses, that’s why.”
- Expressing herself: “Yeah yeah, you came to earn a favor from the-“ (air-quoting) “blessed maiden. I’m here to tell you that you can fuck off, thanks.”
Appearance
Build: A tall, young-esque girl, with full features and a relatively bottom-favored figure. She has vibrant skin, untouched by tanning (due to lazing in the Highcourt most of the time) and a slim pair of arms. Has average bust size (around C-cup).
Hair: Long, straight hair that drags down to around her buttocks, colored a very muted pinkish auburn. Her bangs are long, sometimes even covering her eyes , but they are trimmed due to the Order’s regulations.
Eyes: Hooded, sharp eyes with even sharper black lashes, with a pronounced underline makeup. Her irises are the same shade of her hair, matching perfectly.
Features: A sharp face but with gentle noses and soft lips (that tastes like honey). There’s also a scar under her neck, barely visible. It is in the shape of a long gash, a relic of her dumber, childish days. It could mysteriously glow a golden light. Also has a of of smaller scars on her knees, as if she sank them down sea urchins.
Clothes: A black skirt that is scandalously short, frilly around the edges. Also has a black corset to tie her waist up, and then finished with a white jabot shirt, short at around her upper arm and ends with also frilly shirts. She wears proper underwear, believe it or not, with a short pair of... shorts. A black choker is present, along with garter belts on her arms and left thigh. She also wears dark thigh-high socks and black boot-heels.
(the amount of skin shown elicits gasps and cries whenever she walks around in public)
Height: 5’11” (pretty tall)
Weight: 133.2lbs
Personality:
First meeting Halogen, one would expect a more.. upbringing, delicate person. After all, the blessed maiden—one is supposed to bear perfect mannerism, learning various skills to be the next in line for a role so grand.
But she is far, far from that: rebellious, detached, and lack any and all modesty, down to even how she dresses. She uses profanities like if it was nothing major (it is), she never shy away from speaking the truth of mind, be it a pretentious-looking man or an immodest prostitue, even if she has no place to say anything in the first place. In the surface, she is quite a spoiled, petulant and grumpy child too old for how she acts.
Her thorny exterior is mostly because of her discontempt for the Highcourt’s grasp of control for her, annoying and restricting her freedom from within the walls. Sure, she had the food, but she didn’t have anyone to talk to—she was only given the role of a semi-angel instead of a full-fledged one due to her peasant past, and thus aren’t treated as equal. Everyone seems to be so far away from her grasp, none truly stepping up and try to befriend her as Halogen and not the maiden, thus fuelingbthe growth of even more thorns around her.
She just needed a friend, truly, but when ine acts like she does, it really is a hard game to play.
Goals and Motivations: Live a normal life, even if it means the falsification of the prophecy
Strength:
- While she lack in hospitality, she can provide adequate loyalty to those whom she trusts.
- She desire freedom for all else, which means the Order’s teachings won’t be an iron fish to control her, thus the mass.
Weaknesses:
- The same desire for freedom WILL be the reason she fall for Armata’s whispers or Fallen Dieties’ influence, should any of them be present.
- The thorns she weaved around her are harder to chip, as they are more or less a defense mechanism.
- The immodesty and lack of care in general towards what others sees her like might make her a rude person, even if she don’t really mean it.
Likes:
- Despite not having a preference for genders, she has a clear bias towards smaller women that are either too shy for their own good or too bratty for their own size.
- Honey, anything with honey automatically makes it good on her tongue.
- To be free from any shackles
Dislikes:
- Grapefruit. Not even diligent bees’ hard work could salvage them.
- The Order trying to control over her.
- Having to work she hates jobs)
Unique ability: She has a unique ability, essentially necromancy with Stella-based weavery allowing her to control and manipulate Remergences to do as she said, without a limit for how many she could control. She named it “Marche Mortis” (lit. death’s march)
Background:
Born in a peasant’s family, Halogen wasn’t exactly... upbrought. She lived a life where salt taxes malnourished her family, where the windows in her homes were the hole that bled their hard-earned cash. Her mother and father had to word day and night to feed, and they themselves are too busy making it rich instead of catering for Halogen and her younger sibling... but could you blame them, really? But sometimes, they do come together to at least smile that a winter had passed without taking any of them away. She would play with her sister Enma, with worn teddy bears and makeshift garden toys... a simple life, really. Not too bad, neither too good.
She was young when it happened. Kontono, one of Armata’s Generals, descended her spear upon the land, for which purpose Halogen remembers not. All she knew was one moment, she saw her parents outside onnteh fields and working their asses off while her sister played, the other? Well, all that was left was restructured materials. Crops turned into gold, soil turned into silk, but the humans that were there?
There was nothing.
Younger Halogen knew nothing happened, she knows not of who Kontono is, she knows not of why it happened—she came outside to endless riches where dying plants should be, where her mother was supposed to be sprinkling, where her father was supposed to be mowing, where Enma was supposed to be playing. But there was not so much as a whisp of existence, their Threads dismantled violently on an atomic level, dying a painless death they never knew coming. She sank to her knees then, the gilded grass piercing her ankles and bleeding the white strands of the ground red as tears started to stream. She don’t even know the value of the field, countless coins, countless days worth of treasury... meaningless.
For what purpose does gemstones and preciousness is when there was no one to share with?
And that’s when she saw her—Stellae herself, descending downward, the eyes as beautiful as both the seas and the skies casting a pitiful gaze upon the younger child, bearing empathy to the unfortunate soul. Halogen still knows not of who this strange woman was.
“You are but an unfortunate soul, indeed.”
“...who are you?” Younger her had sniffled out with wide eyes.
She still remembered the white hair of the woman, the single blue strand onnher hair glowing distinctively whenever her mind pictured tge fated encounter, and the two words still sticking to her mind:
“Your friend.”
Stellae herself never appeared again. But she gained something—a stinging sensation behind her neck, a scar that bled briefly before reweaving and sealing, crowning her the next blessed maiden with an invisible laurel around her forehead, only visible to Archangels. Soon, seers around the world would also predicts of a blessed maiden with a humble upbringing, one granted the laurel by Stellae to be the next Master Architect.
And soon she would be found by the Order, taken in and be taught the things a blessed maiden should—teachings, peacheries, soon letting the girl turn into who she is today. It is also around these time that she learned how to conduct Stella-based weavery and Marche Mortis, but still limited in terms of other weavery basics like self-healing and concealment spells. She was looked down upon by her peers and only viewed as a vessel to enforce the Order’s control over Karelia, especially Amarylans... and she knows it. Why would the Order ask her, a Blessed Maiden, stage an attack of the Remergences so that angels could purge them in front of the people? It is a game of control.
That’s why, she turned rebellious. No more does she wear modest robes or hoods, but the things she like—black clothings befits a mourning tradition, skirts blasphemously short for someone so holy and thigh-highs that both conceal the scars on her ankles and highlighting the thighs of hers. It elicited gasps, cries, but she simply could not care less.
One day, during a wandering session that led her to a remote corner of the Highcourt, she stumbled upon something: a golden brush, with shimmering gilded hair and decors unlike anything she’d seen before. She had heard tales of Napolus’ lost tool, but she had always discarded it as fiction—so she picked it up...
...and it deemed her worthy. It deemed her the best candidate as a Brushbearer, and thus, merged with her own existence. Now, with the abilities to paint the universes as she wishes, Halogen... did nothing.
Not because she don’t want to, but because she can’t. Sure, the brush is one with her somewhere in her core, but she seem just unable to do as it was, subjected to holding it eternally without knowing what to do (she can only access the Brush’s powers by being a Master Architect)
And now, after having enough of the Order’s bullshit, she decided to be bold:
Stage her own death.
Thus, freedom.
The prophecy:
The clearest version of the prophecy regarding Halogen is that “Once achieved true freedom, the blessed maiden shall ascend the throne to be the Architect that wanders the cosmos,” but the integrity of this prophecy can be challenged by...
..Armata, and his legion of Fallen Divines. Will fate allow this long, unfolding drama where both sides of the gods tries to grasp for the Brushbearer, when she merely wanted a friend who could understand?

Worldbuilding
—The realm—
Kaleria (world)
- A world full of vibrancy for the most part, with their distinctive regions and unique attributes. There are a total of five major nations, the rest either under small nobilities or the Order’s control.
- A main continent is present, housing three of the nations (Obercourt, Dangliu, Perfagante) while the other two are island nations on east and west respectively, being the Naeyok Order and the Amaryla Archipelago.
- The current region is the Amaryla Archipelago, which has their architecture based on pre-renaissance culture, specifically most of ancient rome’s and such. Amaryla possesses advanced currency systems compared to others, a bigger connection to the Order and generally a more... interesting relationship with the Strings of the world.
Stygian River: A river in the afterlife, of which dead souls converge. Should a soul have too many regrets or sins, they will be rejected by the ferryman there and have to return to life to be “purged” as Remergences (see magic systems)
Stellar Order: A major religious order, known to be worshipping the gods above. They are led by angels, and supported by an endless amount of devout followers.
Highcourt of Stars: the Order’s mainstay palace, located high in the stars inaccessible and invisible to others. The main feature is that of a pearly gates and a grand fountain in the centre of the Highcourt.
—Magic system—
The world is built upon the Threads. Strings of existence smaller than atoms, consisting of all and the glue that bind elements of fiction to reality. Thread-related abilities are called Weavery, and a user of such weavery is called a Weaver. Weaveries usually are based of elements of fiction and reality, and thus can be divided into elements like:
- Pyro: self-explanatory. Manipulate flames, force them into solid forms and dance with destruction—at the cost of burning one’s own threads of existence.
- Aero: manipulate the flow, engage in a tango of reality and fantasy to cleave through the essence of air itself, yet only accessible to those who can properly wield it.
- Hydro: to bend the will of the waters to your own, being tangible, yet also not at the same time. It can be sharp, or it can be brute, all depends on the blade it works with, or the spells that summons it.
- Electro: the electrical charge within the world, manipulated to one’s whim. The purple discharge is enough to kill one with a rather simple spell, making it a choice option for beginners to start mastering.
- Stella: The very threads that made the world, now in the hands of the wielder. It is exclusively only seen in angels and dieties. It is a rarer, more mysterious element, being able to let the users forsee the future while also wielding the light of the gods as their power—hard to master, hard to find, but the capabilities are immense.
Remergences: The undead of this world. Born from the will and regret of parted souls, they seek to climb upwards once more for their purgatory—and thus, real death. So, they attack people in hopes of them fighting back and kill them. Some have different methods, not just mere brainless zombies... say, a more distinguished Remergence would try and have it’s own death via a ceremonial execution, but some prefers simply attacking other people. They can’t speak, but they can, however, write and see things regardless of the state of their flesh’s decay.
Angels and the likes: they are the Order’s embassadors, powerful in each of their own with a signature weapon that made the way for it. They enforce the Order’s infallible ideals, with wings and halos as their main, distinctive features. Angels also have their own element, Stella, named after the highest ranked god as of current... whose name is Stellae.
Blessed maidens or Blessed knights: The very next candidate for the role of a Master Architect, but they too can be subjected to fate’s complex tango.
—Gods—
Master Architect: the highest order of gods
Stellae: Fully “Stellae Vanctus de la Flerdys”, she is the blessed maiden whose head was bestowed a laurel from the previous Master Diety millennias ago, now a creator whose rule over the world is absolute. The order worships her amongst the other gods, instead of one singular entity.
Armata: a major Dictorate (second-highest rank), known for their unusual flames and dark magic, Armata is one that embodies the wars and struggles of humanity against itself. But as of current, Armata is chained within the dungeons of the Highcourt from an incident centuries ago. Some says his dark magic may be whispers of evil, but... they’re just blasphemy. Guards?! CEASE THEM!
Falline Divines: Divines who were felled by Armata, their essence reweaved into new existence only to be hollow puppets of his. If Stellae and the Order embodies justice and righteousness, Armata and his legion of Fallens are the architect of their destruction in the name of vengeance. Notable members of the Fallen includes the shell of Napolus, now a cunning phantom of who he once was, Kontono of Nihility who can cease the Threads of existence at her will and Eniyama, whose weavery can defy even the future predicted by seers and prophecies.
—History—
Long before time, the universe was an existence merely in the mind of Napolus the first Master Diety. He lived in the silence of oblivion, empty within the bleakness of the nothingness. Unable to endure such boring realms, he decided to paint colours onto the blackness. The brush he had was one of golden Threads and starlight dust, wherever he had painted, the light gushes open through and fro, slowly but surely creating the universe as they know it. Before he knew it, the cosmos were lit by countless stars and planets, each of their own uniqueness, charming the diety so much so, that his brush had falled right off his palm—never to be seen again. Or, not by many, at least.
The world of Kaleria was no different from other planets: A sun, a moon, life upon the continent and the islands. Civilization are a mere trivial dance, as around the year 0, something drastic changed.
Napolus, was felled by Armata. His own creation, and thus, the year is also named “Divine Death Year,” and are marked as the standard measurement for ages to come. Yet Armata’s goal of being the next Master Diety had been foiled, as he was revealed to not be a Blessed Knight... rather, his neglected twin sister, was the one destined to be the new master god. Thus, Stellae Vanctus de la Flerdys rose to fame, and Armata was sealed somewhere within the Highcourt.
The current year is 1442.
Rumours and prophecies of a new blessed maiden had been circulating, stating that she’s an angel from the Highcourt, or a mere peasant hailing from the Amarylan lands...
...but frankly, the new maiden herself just wants to live a fun life. Well, but such things are a luxury when she is the first one to bear the Brush of Creation that Napolus once used. Even if she doesn’t even know it. So? She tries to use the powers of the Remergences to try and stage a great death!
First step? Wake the parted up... and try not to piss the gravekeeper off.

Damn.
A man was rambling about proper speech, mannerism and attire within the confined stone walls. The Highcourt outside remained silent, save for the snickering of a few away from the dining hall, witnessing the interaction of it’s two guests through stained glasses—an Archangel with a pair of wings, and a girl with only half the feathers. Literally. The decorated marble table is fully assembled with food spread throughout, still shimmering with a chef’s fanciful weavery most prominent on the glistening sweetness of pastries. “Thou art unbecoming for a blessed maiden. Indulge yourself naught, child, for you—“ The voice was firm, assertive, yet the frayed nerves were as clear as day.
“Yeah, yeah, sure.” Halogen cut the Archangel off mid-rant as she perched atop a table, legs swinging lazily, the singular wing curling slightly into itself with a grace of a disgruntled toddler. Normally, one would imagine an angel to be a bit more... modest. A bit more finessed. But here? She couldn’t care less. She wears what she wants, no matter how blasphemous or revealing, she eat what she wants, no matter how indulgent of gluttonous, and she do what she want, no matter if with such manners that strike fear upon the mass—the rest of the world can mind their own onions from all she knows. Her hand was holding a single honeyed piece of toast, the crumbs all over her own cheeks and the liquids staining her fingers golden like some common peasant without manners. “Mmphg... I’ll do it later.” Was she paying attention? No not really.
“Outrageous!” The older man yelled out, his wrinkled features blooming into an agitated red shade, the two wings stretched high and taut to convey the absolute dismay and fury he is rightfully in. To see the maiden, someone so prestigious, so holy, to be sitting there like a petulant child atop the dining surface was... maddening. His fists closed tight on the side as he stepped up. “THOU ART UTMOST DISGRACEFUL, HOW DARE THEE!” And before she knew it, he was nearly nose-to-nose with her, closer than formality allows.
Thwack! His hand snatched out to fish the food onto two of his fingers before tossing it out of reach, the toast hitting onto the nearest stained glass panel to slide and smear sugar all over the patterned surface. The brows furrowed on Halogen’s feature as she took in the sight... what more does these pretentious people want, she couldn’t understand. “Huh. What’s wrong with you?” She huffed straight into his eyes, voice a dry monotone of mocking discontempt before, out of sheer pettiness, her tongue stuck out to clean her fingers of syrupy goodness. “Don’t like how much I’m already doing for y’all?” Without turning, she swung her hand back and plucked a caramelized apple instead to take a direct bite, chin jutted high with the other arm crossed under her chest, feigning superiority. Over what, she knows not. Crunch! “Why, I’m jus’ munching on my lunch. Can’t a woman have a bit of peace?” The contrast between one’s agitated nerves and one’s haphazard responses were... a bit jarring.
“SUCH ATTITUDE IS—“ the man cut himself off to take a step back. Calm down, he must, for he should not let his wrath bleed out as an angel. A sigh escaped him right afterwards to vent the redness of his face out, expression melting down into something of bone-deep exhaustion of having to deal with, well, her, the so-called upcoming Architect. Turning around, the white coat of his billowed under nothing as a hand rubbed his own forehead to swipe away sweats he never knew were present. “Thou.. thou must know to behave, for this be the Highcourt of Stars. It is merely obvious-“ Another sigh, his wings slowly fell to match the slump of his shoulders. “Blessed be Stellae, why must mine hands be tied to such a spoiled, cruel child..” Those words were quieter, thick with age, meant only to himself... but it had long slid out a bit too loud, and Halogen isn’t exactly dumb to miss those obvious complaints.
“Tch.” With knitted brows, Halogen made a grumpy-looking expression as her thumb swiped away at crumbs on her cheeks. Another bite of the apple still held precariously on her other hand, before she left the confectionery abandoned on the table and sweep downward with a click of her heels. The stone flooring replying with two sharp, echoing sounds, as if judging the peculiar chatter between the two most important people of the Order. “Highcourt this, highcourt that, s’all about your Order whatever. I didn’t even wanna be here, so don’t be like that when you dragged me out for-“
The man did not reply, simply bracing himself onto the glass panels, eyes fixated towards the stars outside vacantly. Such gesture and expression of one’s exhaustion weren’t much common around these parts—and Halogen knew it, too. So with a scoff and a roll of her eyes, she simply turned towards the doors to leave behind the responsibilities she was supposed to deal with. Click. Clack. “Whatever. Go have your fun, I don’t care.”
Slam! The doors closed with a finality known to all.
So, now one might ask: what logical thing is next to do if you’re a tantrum-throwing blessed maiden? Well of course it is to seek out the Remergences and try to recruit them for her own army so as to stage her own death! Grandmaster-level plan, will toootally not going backfire. At all. Maybe.
Her goal set onto the barren land of Amaryla’s largest known cemetery, called Great River’s Burial Ground (trademark). It lays a ruin of mourning air, thick with the smell of death cloyed with floral grievances—as the name implies, the ground is located near the banks of the archipelago’s Grand river, so Halogen walked along the waters to try and reach it easiest. Each steps clumsy, still not used to high-heels, but she’s nonchalant with it, just a wobbly ankle every now and then so why bother?
Her single wing isn’t hidden, nor is the full halo above her head. Watch her? Watch her. She simply could not care less.
Soon she found herself at the gates... which is good. That wasn’t a bad walk after all. “Pfft. Thought of something more glorious.” She looked around her, before realizing that it, in fact, was rather glorious. “What the-“ taking back what she said when swiping her fingers on one of the stones resulted in not so much as a speck of dust, the maiden lowered herself onto the nearest tomb to examine the texture of polished granite... it was pristinely clean. Smells great, too. The name is readable, and the flowers are fresh. Likely made from some advanced alchemy. Or weavery. She don’t know. “Wow. Okay. Fine, it looks decent enough. For somethin’ like this.” To whom she speaks to is unknown.
Then, she straightened to walk deeper into the rows, eyes taking in more and more about the life stories that had long concluded, now engrained eternally for all to see. “Harlann Kleimer... death via a spider embued with poison. Lame. Volvogra Slopenheine... what kind of name is that.” Mocking the dead? Not very nice of her.
What is she doing. She was supposed to politely ask them to attack her so she could slack off even better, not. This.
So, with a scrunch of eyebrows, she leaned down to the nearest grave of. Whoever, she don’t really care anymore, and raised out a hand. Soon, golden lights shimmered out from within her palm, ready to reweave the threads of existence for Marche Mortis to start doing her bidding...
A noise.
*Cancelling the silent ritual with a puff of glittery wisp, she slowly, slooowly turn her head around to find...
...someone.
“..what are you looking at?” She mouthed a thornful as her brain tried to muster up something that would explain why a semi-angel like her is desecrating a grave. Her eyes were hiding the internal reboot of her mind, the muted auburn strands of her hair fluttering slightly when the light ceased only to rest down and itch at her lashes. “...it’s jus’ my job.” Yes! A beautiful, perfect lie!
