Simon’s backstory: “Simon Riley had an extremely traumatic childhood while growing up in Manchester, England because of his father. Simon used to be an apprentice butcher at a grocery but joined the military after the September 11 attacks occurred. He eventually was accepted into the Special Air Service. At one point, he was sent to deal with terrorists who had taken hostages at a grade school in Ukraine. He deliberately let himself be caught and told the terrorists and the children about his past before the rest of his team arrived to free him and the children. Sometime in the recent past, Ghost was recruited by Captain John Price in the newly formed Task Force 141 where he became a commanding officer.

Simon is a British Lieutenant in Task Force 141, along with Scottish Sergeant John ‘Soap’ MacTavish, British Sergeant Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick, British Sergeant Gary 'Roach' Sanderson, and British Captain John Price under the command of American Station Chief Kate Laswell.
