Lost City of Atlantis – Earth 44

Reporter: Samantha Bridgeton
First UNC Recorded Contact: March 14, 2057

1. Introduction

Atlantis. A name many of us grew up hearing, surrounded by myths and speculation. Earth 44’s Atlantis is no longer lost. Thanks to the dungeon’s chaotic influence, the last city of Atlantis was swallowed long ago.

Earth 44’s Atlantis is only one of many Atlantean cities that fell into the dungeon. Most others failed, either being destroyed by dungeon creatures, drowning in the ocean, or weakening to the point of abandonment. Earth 44’s Atlantis, however, is the most successful and stable of all known Atlantises in the dungeon.

2. Timeline & Origins

  • 9,600 BCE: The city of Atlantis falls through a failed Dungeon Tower.

  • The city lands in a relatively safe area of Floor 200 ALZ.

  • A nearby coral reef produces strong air pockets, allowing inhabitants to breathe underwater.

  • Original inhabitants: Humans (Mycenaeans), who gradually evolve into Atlanteans over generations due to their aquatic environment.

  • Genetically distinct but related to humans; hybrid offspring with humans are possible but tend to lose underwater capabilities.

3. Physical Traits & Genetics

  • Atlanteans look like humans but have aquatic or fish-like adaptations.

  • Genetically, they are a separate branch of humanity—similar to Neanderthals.

  • Hybrids with humans are possible but generally weaker and more land-based.

  • Lifespan extension methods:

    • Organ replacement (clone organs)

    • Full skin replacement

    • Consciousness transfer into clone bodies

4. Culture & Society

  • Inspired by Mycenaean culture but politically savvy and pleasure-focused.

  • Prefer city-state life, rarely leaving Atlantis itself.

  • Rely on genetic manipulation and remote exploration for resources.

Examples:

  • Shark-variant Atlanteans:

    • Result of genetically modifying sharks into sentient, humanoid creatures.

    • Loyal to humanoid masters but capable of independent exploration.

    • Most commonly encountered Atlanteans outside the city; generally friendly toward humans.

  • Land-capable fish:

    • Function as dungeon exploration rovers.

    • Can traverse dungeon floors to gather materials or scout.

  • Human variant Atlanteans:

    • Weak concept of sentience; view humans and other creatures as pets.

    • They are absolutely correct in this assessment due to their immense power.

    • Adventurers may be captured and “adopted,” often spoiled rather than harmed.

5. Technology & Genetic Manipulation

  • Advanced magical technology exists but genetic manipulation is primary.

  • Cities are grown from genetically modified coral reefs.

  • Transportation includes lobotomized whales acting as buses.

  • Military and defensive capabilities:

    • Lab-grown monsters and abominations

    • Environmental manipulation, including flooding entire dungeon floors

  • Atlanteans also genetically modify themselves to enhance lifespan and health.

6. Nobility & Beauty Standards

  • Nobles pursue extreme obesity as a status symbol, attempting to outcompete each other in wealth and prestige.

  • This competition can result in SSBBWs or USSBBWs, sometimes becoming immobile due to excess weight.

  • When their bodies fail due to extreme weight or aging, they transfer consciousness into new clone bodies and repeat the process.

  • Organ replacement, skin replacement, and full cloning are common methods among nobles to maintain health and status.

7. Military Conflicts

  • High Elves: Hostile relationship; frequent wars occur with devastating results.

    • High elves use war golems and magical tech.

    • Atlanteans respond with genetically modified abominations and dungeon-floor flooding.

  • Humans: Considered animals at worst, pets at best; genocide is unlikely, as Atlanteans are not inherently violent.

8. UNC Contact & Diplomacy

  • March 14, 2057: UNC sends first recorded diplomatic mission to Atlantis.

  • Atlanteans view diplomats as potential pets; true diplomacy fails.

  • Humanity cannot achieve political parity with Atlantis; interactions revolve around survival, adoption risk, or observation.

9. Summary

Earth 44’s Atlanteans are a genetically advanced, aquatic civilization with extreme longevity practices, political cunning, and mastery of genetic engineering.

  • Genetic manipulation dominates: species, environment, and themselves

  • Nobles pursue weight as prestige, often competing to extremes

  • Exploration and defense are conducted via genetically engineered creatures

  • High elves remain enemies; humans are pets or experiments

Visitors should approach cautiously. “Adoption” is likely for unlucky adventurers, while outright harm is rare. Atlantis is a city of power, indifference, and strange, twisted elegance.
