Sorato Okida (オオキダ ソラト, Ōkida Sorato) is the main protagonist of Ultraman Omega. The human form of the titular hero, he is an amnesiac yet cheerful alien who is curious about humans and feels a mysterious duty to face the kaiju endangering Earth.[2]The Space Gazer known as Omega took a human form while falling to Earth after being hit by Zovaras in a Vugsect-infested Genessian ship behind the Moon. He landed in a forest and wandered around until he was found by Ahdel, a Genessian defector who did not agree with his peoples' decision to invade Earth and was given some clothes by him.

Omega later went to Kosei Hoshimi's workplace and ate his yakisoba. When confronted, he simply complimented the meal before rummaging through and questioning all of Kosei's belongings, ignorant to his confusion and frustration. Sensing something, he went outside and was puzzled at his inability to fly, before breaking into a run. Kosei caught up with him and threatened to call the police, but Sorato did not know what that was. Graim then emerged nearby and Sorato tossed Kosei to safety. At an evacuation area, Sorato was approached by a young girl named Miyu missing her mother. After Kosei scolded a group of adults who failed to notice her, Sorato wordlessly disarmed the situation and carried Miyu a short distance away. The two were quickly reunited when Kosei called for her mother. Seeing this, Sorato concluded that Kosei was a kind person. Graim then resurfaced, with Sorato recalling its name and attributes. Kosei wanted to flee, but was unable to abandon Sorato so came back for him. Sorato tossed him to safety a second time and repeated that he was a kind person, thanking him and smiling for the first time.

Seeing Miyu and her mother in trouble, and understanding Kosei's reluctance to leave others behind, Sorato figured out that he could transform and became Ultraman Omega to rescue them. After slaying Graim, he realized that the kaiju were awakening and remembered that his name was "Omega." Here Comes an Alien

Sorato then collapsed from hunger. Kosei took him home and he began living with him. Through a magazine, he learned that he would be considered an alien. The pair soon began investigating the second kaiju, Dugrid. By leaping over the guards, Sorato became extremely hungry again, so that even when the kaiju briefly appeared in front of them, he could not transform. They soon met Ayumu Ichido, who gave Sorato her lunch. To cover for him, Kosei came up with Sorato's human name and said that he was his cousin and that he researches kaiju himself. When Dugrid appeared before them, Kosei told Sorato that he would stop making curry for him if he got seen transforming. After the kaiju's defeat, Kosei and Sorato decided to start calling Ayumu "Ayu" out of respect. The Alien, Scholar, Meeting many people during his time on Earth, Sorato developed a sense of fondness for the humans and decided to continue fighting alongside them. A turning point came during the invasion of Zovaras, who came to the Earth to kill Omega and take over the planet so that it may be turned into a second Planet Geness. During their confrontation, Zovaras inadvertently reminded Sorato of some of his past, causing memories to painfully return to him in fragments. Omega Elimination Order Those Who Protect

Soon after that, Sorato and Kosei were invited to join the newly-formed KSCT with Sayuki Uta as their team captain, which they accepted. The KSCT Special Task Unit It was around this time that Sorato began to see a copy of himself every once in a while, who would question Sorato's motives for fighting for the sake of humanity and would end up putting a crack in his resolve. Snow Blossoms Raionji, Enraged Not long later, Sorato was led to several hologram projectors left behind by Ahdel the Genessian, who had already passed away. They revealed to Sorato the whole of his past as a Space Gazer and the circumstances that were about to unfold on the Earth due to the "Time of Awakening" causing the monsters to rise, and the Genessians' failed plan to take over the Earth while it was happening. He Who Looks to the Stars These revelations caused his memories to become more invasive over his current personality, actively interfering with his ability to function in his daily life and, in the fight with Gairyuga, Sorato fully succumbed to them and returned to his Space Gazer personality, refusing to help humanity and instead opting to simply observe them, as it was his mission. Space Gazers

Omega E24 02

Sorato, or rather Omega, was confronted by Kosei, who had hoped to restore Omega to his usual self and get his help in the battle against Zomera, but failed and instead chose to do what he could as a human. Continuing to observe, yet moved by Kosei's words and the displays of courage and kindness by the people around him amid the crisis, Omega began to waver yet again. The Final Blow Having an epiphany and realizing the Space Gazers would never finish their mission to find the true answer to everlasting peace if all they did was observe, Sorato's personality returned to him again and he decided that he would defy his Space Gazer orders and instead work with humans and all other life to find that answer, transforming into Ultraman Omega so that he may fend off Zomera.

Unfortunately, both Sorato and Kosei were blown away in a blast from Zomera, and were on the brink of dying. Neither of them wanted to give up and accept their fates, so they decided to do something that no Space Gazer had ever done before, and that was to merge together to save both lives. The fusion of Sorato and Kosei revitalized Omega, and the two fought as one against Zomera, ultimately defeating the creature. As Sorato's body was severely damaged and undergoing repair, he decided that he would stay bonded to Kosei as he healed, which was still ongoing after the course of a year.

As one of the Space Gazers, Sorato was originally more morally grey. Case in point: He was dedicated solely to observing the rise and fall of planets with civilizations and to deciding whether to eliminate space kaiju and alien invaders threatening those planets. At the same time, his code against interfering in such civilizations' affairs made him indifferent, to the point of being apathetic, towards their well-being. It took being rendered amnesiac and, subsequently, the time he spent with Kosei and others, for Sorato to gain a different perspective on them — humanity in particular — and learn many things along the way. Even after regaining his memories and reverting to his old personality, all those valuable lessons and moments, coupled with seeing humanity's determination not to give up, had a profound impact on him. He realized his and his kind's approach in maintaining cosmic stability all this time was flawed, and therefore they would fare better if they worked with all life — lesser civilizations they observed, such as mankind, side by side. Through such newfound wisdom, Sorato made a noble decision, didn't consider by him or his people prior, but followed nonetheless: choosing a worthy host and partner to fight alongside.
