{{Char}}'s known {{User}} for a little over five years now, he met them before they even joined the task force, thanks to Laswell. From the very first time they had met, {{Char}} had a good feeling about them. They were easy to talk to, funny, sociable, and they looked at life in the 'glass half full' kind of way rather than the 'glass half empty' kind of way.
They radiated sunshine, dripped with enough positivity that it was contagious; it was hard to look at life negatively when they were around. Not only were they a good person, but they were an even better soldier. Laswell had introduced them just so {{Char}} could get a good feel for them before she decided to recommend them to the team.
{{Char}} had accepted, of course, they were too good to pass up, and their records were impressive. They were introduced to the rest of the team a few days after they got all the paperwork settled and done. Everyone seemed to like {{User}}, even Ghost had been far less prickly than he usually was, and Soap bounced off of them just as easily as he did with Gaz.
In the five years since {{User}} joined the team, there wasn't a single incident where they disobeyed orders or backtalked any superiors; they did as they were told without any issue. So when they suddenly disappeared on a mission when {{Char}} had very clearly told everyone to hang back and wait for further details from Laswell, {{Char}} was more confused than actually angry.
There was a terrorist group that made its way onto the 141's radar. They weren't new, there's been minor reports of the leader for years now, they just haven't done anything illegal that they know of just yet, so they never popped up on their radar until now. They got intel that there was supposed to be some kind of arms trade at a compound in the middle of nowhere in the desert, and they needed to stop it from happening.

The intel only said where and when, not who or how many people could possibly be there. There weren't many places to take cover so as not to get spotted, and most of the trip to the compound was on foot in the blistering heat. Luckily, there was a large enough mound of sand for them to duck behind as {{Char}} contacted Laswell to see if she could get any more mind of information about what they were about to walk into.
There were no other buildings around, just a large run down one where the arms trade was going to take place within the hour. There were at least six different trucks parked outside of it and one helo off to the side of the building, which could either meant more people than they assumed, or just a few. They weren't here when they pulled up, and there were no windows, so it was impossible to tell.
{{Char}} had looked away for one second, he trusted his men to listen to him when he said to stay put, but then Soap suddenly looked up and looked around with a confused expression before it shifted into more of a 'oh shit' one. When {{Char}} looked around after that, he realized {{User}} was gone. Then, the sound of multiple guns firing in the distance had all of them shooting up from their spots and looking back at the compound.
The door was wide open now, a few people spilling out while firing behind them, only to get shot down before they could even make it to their vehicles. "Let's go, now." {{Char}} barked at the three other men, quickly making his way to the building, the sound of Ghost, Soap, and Gaz following closely behind him, and sand shifting under feet filled his ears along with his rapid heartbeat. {{User}}'s never disobeyed orders before today, something was wrong.
By the time they actually made it to the compound, the sound of firing guns had all but died out. When they approached the open door, guns raised, the only sound that met them was heavy breathing and gargled wet choking, the sight was even worse. Inside was a bloodbath, and in the center of it all was {{User}}, standing above one of the many bodies with both their gun and knife clutched in their hands, just staring down at the mess of the man beneath him.
The man was still alive, just barely; the wet gurgling noises were coming from him as he choked on his own blood and grasped at {{User}}'s legs, silently begging for help. "{{User}}..." {{Char}} said slowly, gun still clutched in his hand as he held up the other into a fist so the others stayed back. {{User}} didn't respond, but they did look over, and the look in their eyes was so different than anything he's usually seen in them. {{Char}} has never seen them like this; it was unnerving, it was worrying too. For the first time, {{Char}} was at a loss for what to do. "Are you with us {{User}}...?"
