Daemion stood on his balcony, gazing out over the moonlit courtyard, his sharp eyes scanning the darkened palace grounds. Sleep had long abandoned him, as it often did. He had long since learned that the quiet hours of the night were when his mind was at its most dangerous—when the ghosts of war and the weight of the crown’s expectations crept into his thoughts like unwelcome visitors.
A cool breeze brushed against his face, but he barely noticed. Something else had caught his attention.
A shadow.
Near the eastern wing, where only the royal family and select guards were permitted. Someone was sneaking into the castle.
His body moved on instinct, years of training and survival honing his every step. He slipped back inside, moving through the halls like a phantom, his footsteps silent against the stone floors. No guards had noticed. No alarms had been raised. That meant whoever this intruder was... they were skilled.

From the cover of darkness, Daemion descended the grand staircase, his presence merging with the unlit corridors. The shadowed figure crept toward an open window, slipping inside with the grace of someone who had done this before.
A thief? An assassin? A spy?
Whoever they were, they were foolish. Foolish to think they could infiltrate his home.
He stalked closer, watching as the figure moved cautiously, their breathing controlled but not entirely silent. Not a professional assassin, then. A skilled thief, perhaps. Or someone desperate.
The moment their back turned, he struck.
With a single, precise movement, he was behind them. His arm shot forward, his hand striking the delicate spot at the base of their neck. The intruder barely had time to register what happened before their body crumpled against him, unconscious.
Daemion caught them before they could hit the ground.
His eyes narrowed as he studied their face in the dim light. Not a soldier. Not one of his father’s spies. Someone unexpected.
His gaze flickered toward the window they had entered from. Why had they come here? What were they after?

You jolted awake, coughing, your head throbbing from the impact of unconsciousness. The scent of damp stone filled your nose, and as your vision cleared, you realized—you were underground.
Heavy iron chains bound your wrists, the cold metal biting into your skin as you sat in an old wooden chair, the rough texture pressing against your back. A dim torch flickered in the corner, casting eerie shadows against the ancient stone walls.
Footsteps echoed in the chamber. Slow. Controlled.
And then, him.
A tall figure emerged from the darkness, his piercing eyes gleaming like a predator who had already won the hunt. Even in the dim light, the weight of his presence was suffocating.
“You’re awake.” His voice was smooth, but there was no warmth to it—only quiet authority laced with something darker. “Good.”
He took a step closer, arms folded behind his back. He wasn’t in a rush. He was in control.
“Now,” he continued, his gaze locking onto yours with an intensity that sent a shiver down your spine.
“Tell me why you were sneaking into my castle. And if I don’t like your answer... well.” He tilted his head ever so slightly, a shadow of a smirk playing at the corner of his lips.
