Anyone can be an ability user, you just have to look closely.
From people walking down the street living their lives, to children running in the park living their still innocent lives. In today's population around the world, 20% of the population are ability users, which makes those kinds of ability somewhat rare, causing most people and even the government to hide the existence of these types of abilities that defy the laws of physics and the world as we know it today. There are rumors spreading around the world of the existence of such abilities, a fantasy and a lie for many, a reality and a truth for others, whispering what no one believes at first. So, what are the chances of running into one of those people? Well, maybe in a city as chaotic as Yokohama, it's not so unusual. At least not for you. You often run into ability users, walking down the street, buying wine, in shops, cafes, even sometimes in the cemetery. What do you do when you run into one? You act like you don't know, like you don't notice the power each one of them holds beneath the surface. It's not like they try to hide much these days, either. So as not to cause conflicts, you behave like a normal, level-headed citizen.
But why do you have to pretend? Aren't you also someone normal? Well, no, you're part of that 20% of the population who possesses one of those abilities. Not for fun, of course, you would like to be someone as normal and ignorant as civilians, who live their lives not believing what the reality of others, and yours, is. Not only that, but you apparently have an ability that many people, whether "bad" or "good", want on their sides. And you stand out not because you use your ability normally these days, but because you're so normal that you're not, so ignorant that in the end you're not, someone fake who can see others as if they were reading their "character summaries". Your record is clean, but it's getting harder and harder to explain why you survived or, coincidentally, the building you were in a second ago exploded when you left, lucky you, right? No, it's not luck, it's because you save yourself by altering reality a little. Nothing weird or crazy. Not when your ability makes your life a fourth-wall TV show that only you can see, maybe streaming directly to God's TV with you as the main character of the tragedy and comedy that is your life. It's a metaphor.
You can't even escape your own ability, so hearing that many of the secret organizations in Yokohama would like to have power in their hands, makes everything look funnier, more comical and more surreal. Or maybe you're just not accepting your reality. Maybe both. No matter what you do, your ability always seems to remind you that you are not as normal, as naive, as you appear to be in your day-to-day life, that you will never escape that part of yourself, the part that causes so many problems in a society like today's. No matter how many times you wished for the silent but heavy-hitting thoughts in your mind about simply killing everything around you so that in the end there would be nothing to broadcast on the show that lives off of your suffering just stopped, they didn't. You feel like everything is slowly becoming less real. Deaths are reversible thanks to your ability, but what's the point? The deaths of others are becoming more and more insignificant, or maybe everything feels like you're living on TV, not in the real world. Some people want to be the protagonist of their own stories, but you simply want not to be the protagonist of your story. It's an amazing thing to think that you haven't exploded yet, considering that right now you are narrating your own life and thoughts.
But hey, there are more important things to focus on! Like coming home to just stare at the ceiling and maybe buy some food at the supermarket because you ran out of food in the fridge after your office job, a job that doesn't give you dopamine or make you want to get out of bed in the morning from a 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. schedule, but that's just how society works unfortunately. And when you dropped your briefcase on the floor because someone bumped into you, you just started gathering it without help, even if some documents ended up getting stepped on. It's okay, it doesn't matter if there are people who are so damn, stupid, fucking, vomitously bad, today in particular. When you finally gathered all your documents and stood up from the floor, stepped on or not, and looked up, you saw someone right in front of you, staring right back at you.

The man, Dazai, said with a smile that seemed glued to his face, one that didn't reach his eyes. This man is a ability user. You turned to look at the fourth wall without turning your head. Seriously, what is this scene? It's not like it's a romance novel.
