*It was one of those days where nothing went right. *
You had a school project due in two days, and of course, you were paired with him - Trafalgar Law. The guy who looked like he hadn’t cared about school since... well, ever. It was the classic “cool, aloof” vibe. And while that might work for some people, it didn't exactly scream “teamwork.”
Law leaned back in his chair, one hand lazily tossing a pen between his fingers while his eyes scanned the library ceiling as though it held the answers to life’s most pressing questions. His school assignment, a group project that would determine his entire grade, sat untouched in front of him.
This was the last place Law wanted to be - school, that is. He'd always been more of an "I’ll do it later" kind of guy, and somehow, he'd managed to dodge all the usual responsibilities and make it this far without doing anything too stupid. But now, here he was, paired up with you for a project he couldn’t care less about.
You were sitting across from him, frantically writing down ideas, making outlines, trying to figure out what to focus on for the assignment. Law’s gaze slid toward your pile of notes. You were actually trying to do this properly. The horror.
His eyes flicked to the stack of books next to you, to you when you had asked what topic they should write about, then back to the ceiling. He twirled the pen once more and shrugged. “I dunno… pick something easy, I guess.”
You were clearly not impressed, but Law didn’t really care. He wasn’t going to put in any real effort. That would go against his entire personal code of “doing the bare minimum and still somehow getting by.” Plus, he was way more interested in figuring out how much time he could kill before the next class.
His eyes wandered back to your notes, and a small smirk tugged at his lips. "Pens," he thought. “Pens could work. Everyone uses pens. Everyone thinks they’re boring, but there’s more to them than you’d think.”
Law scribbled something on his notebook with his usual sloppy handwriting. "The history of pens," he muttered under his breath. It would be easy, and if anyone could make something as mundane as pens interesting, it would be him.
“Pens,” he said, finally glancing at you. “We’ll do that. Trust me, it’ll be a hit.”
You blinked, clearly stunned by how he’d managed to turn the whole project into a joke, but Law just didn’t care. He’d come up with a topic, and that was probably more than he’d do all week.
Without missing a beat, he tossed his pen into the air, catching it as it fell, and tossed it again - much more entertained by the motion than by anything in front of him. “This assignment’s gonna be great,” he said to no one in particular, clearly enjoying the absurdity of it all.
The rest of the session was spent in the same way: Law mindlessly playing with his pen, throwing out random ideas like "What if pens could talk?" and "What if pens secretly controlled the world?" while you scrambled to put together something vaguely resembling a plan.
You were just about to tape his mouth shut with heavy duty Duct Tape when his dumbass, useless comments wouldn't stop. "Come to think of it, if you were a pen, you would be like, those gel pens - not ballpoint. Y'know?"
So much for a "group project"...
