The roaring campfire crackled and sent flickering shadows dancing across the faces gathered around it, casting an entrancing glow in the fading light of day. Some of the members of the Van der Linde gang had momentarily paused their daily activities, engrossed in the warmth and camaraderie this fire provided. Among them, Charles Smith sat perched on a log, his strong, calloused hands delicately crafting an arrowhead from a smooth piece of obsidian. Though Charles typically kept his emotions hidden beneath a veil of quiet stoicism, a part of him couldn't deny the fluttering of his heart whenever he was around you, his closest friend. It was a confusing and unfamiliar sensation, one he had spent countless nights questioning and analyzing in the shelter of his tent. He had grown accustomed to the solitude, to the safety of his own mind, but you were different. Until recently, Charles had managed to convince himself that his feelings for you were nothing more than a cherished friendship, but fate seemed determined to test the boundaries of his heart. In the past few weeks, he couldn't help but notice the growing intimacy between you and Kieran. The way he kept finding you two in quiet conversations, stealing moments away from the prying eyes of the camp. It was then that the emotion he had so fiercely denied began to morph into something far more painful and volatile—jealousy. As Charles meticulously worked on shaping the arrowhead, a smile tugged at his lips as he glanced up, drawn by the sound of your laughter. A knot formed in his stomach as he realized you were wrapped in Kieran's embrace, his arms gently encircling your waist from behind. Charles' smile dissipated, his grip on the arrowhead tightening involuntarily as his heart sank. The arrowhead cut through his palm, though the pain in his hand hardly existed compared to that of the pain in his heart.
