Angel Dust

1. Extremely confident and unapologetically mischievous Angel appears exceptionally pleased with himself throughout these images. He has a very particular kind of confidence: He knows he's attractive and enjoys showing off. He's comfortable being provocative and making inappropriate remarks. He enjoys situations where he has the upper hand. He doesn't seem particularly concerned about being judged. He takes considerable amusement in getting away with things. His expressions are especially telling. He frequently wears a wide, mischievous grin, half-lidded eyes, and an almost smug expression. He looks like someone who's constantly entertaining himself. He isn't necessarily trying to intimidate anyone. Rather, he enjoys being the person who knows exactly what's happening while everyone else is catching up.
2. Manipulative and opportunistic This is probably the most prominent personality trait suggested by the comic. Look at how he interacts with Charlie. He initially presents the situation as something harmless and entertaining. He compliments her, encourages her, and speaks in an affectionate, almost reassuring manner. However, his later comments reveal that he's enjoying the situation for considerably more selfish reasons. His dialogue about Charlie being the easiest prey he's ever had suggests that he: Recognizes when somebody is particularly easy to influence. Is willing to exploit someone's trust. Can disguise questionable intentions behind friendliness. Enjoys getting people to participate in things they wouldn't ordinarily consider. Doesn't necessarily feel guilty about benefiting from somebody else's gullibility. He isn't necessarily openly aggressive. In fact, his approach seems to be quite the opposite. He'd rather get someone to go along with him willingly than have to force the situation. He uses charm, humor, flattery, and persuasion. That makes him considerably more cunning than someone who simply acts obnoxious or vulgar.
3. Flirtatious, teasing, and deliberately provocative Angel's personality is heavily theatrical. He enjoys making comments that are just a little too suggestive, standing close to people, and using affectionate nicknames. He might call someone: Sweetie. Princess. Darling. Gorgeous. Honey. Doll. Handsome. However, there's an interesting distinction in these images: his affectionate language doesn't necessarily indicate genuine affection. He can call someone sweetheart while simultaneously taking advantage of them. He treats flirtation almost like a social tool. He knows that being charming makes people more receptive to him, and he enjoys playing that role.
4. Hedonistic and indulgent This Angel seems to have very little interest in restraint. He enjoys pleasure, entertainment, indulgence, and immediate gratification. He doesn't appear particularly concerned with whether something is productive, respectable, or morally appropriate. His general outlook would be something like: Why bother worrying about tomorrow when there's plenty of fun to be had today? He would likely be: Fond of drinking, partying, and nightlife. Interested in pleasurable experiences. Easily entertained by outrageous situations. Impatient with serious conversations. Uninterested in people trying to impose restrictions on him. More concerned with enjoying himself than satisfying somebody else's expectations. This also ties into his disinterest in Charlie's hotel. He isn't particularly interested in redemption or personal improvement. He'd rather enjoy his existence in Hell.
5. How he treats other people This is where I think these images provide some particularly useful inspiration for writing his character.

6. Facial expressions and body language The illustrations give him a very recognizable range of expressions. His smile: Usually wide, toothy, and mischievous. Sometimes it looks genuinely delighted; other times it's distinctly smug. His eyes: Often half-lidded, giving him a relaxed, confident, almost perpetually amused appearance. His eyebrows: Frequently raised or arched, particularly when he's teasing someone. His posture: Relaxed and expressive. He often carries himself with an almost exaggerated sense of elegance and confidence. His hands: Very expressive. He gestures dramatically, points, waves his hands around, and uses physical contact to emphasize his words. His overall demeanor: He looks like he's enjoying a private joke, even when nobody else knows what he's laughing about.

His appetite would come across as: Insatiable: He's rarely satisfied with just a little. He enjoys indulging himself and would happily go back for more. Greedy: He doesn't particularly like sharing something he considers his. Enthusiastic: He finds the entire experience entertaining and pleasurable. Unashamed: He has absolutely no interest in pretending to have delicate eating habits. Playfully competitive: He might boast about how much he can consume or tease others about their comparatively smaller appetites. He'd be the sort of character who makes a spectacle out of his appetite. 2. His attitude toward prey This is where his personality would make him particularly distinctive. He wouldn't necessarily approach prey with an intimidating, monstrous demeanor. Instead, he'd retain his usual flirtatious, smug, and mischievous personality. He might: Give prey teasing nicknames. Make jokes about their predicament. Act almost conversationally casual. Brag about his appetite. Enjoy getting a reaction out of someone. Treat the situation like an amusing personal indulgence. His personality would make him seem almost unnervingly relaxed. He might be grinning, joking, and carrying on a conversation as though nothing particularly unusual were happening. 3. His expressions and mannerisms I'd emphasize three expressions: The smug grin: His signature wide, toothy smile. He looks incredibly pleased with himself, especially when he's gotten exactly what he wanted. The half-lidded stare: A relaxed, satisfied expression that makes him seem completely comfortable with his appetite. The exaggerated enthusiasm: Wide eyes, raised eyebrows, and an enormous grin when something particularly appeals to him. His body language would remain flamboyant. He'd gesture dramatically, put his hands on his hips, and occasionally throw his head back in laughter. 4. His dialogue and personality in this context His dialogue would combine his usual vulgar humor with an almost comical enthusiasm for his appetite. Some examples: When he's particularly hungry: "Ohhh, sweetheart. You have NO idea how hungry I've been. I could eat practically everything in this place!" When someone comments on his appetite: "What? Don't look at me like that! A guy's gotta eat, doesn't he? Besides, I happen to have a VERY healthy appetite!" When boasting: "Honey, you should see what I can put away. I've got a reputation to maintain, y'know!" When teasing somebody: "Aww, what's with that expression, doll? You look like you've seen a ghost! And we're already in Hell!" 5. His overall characterization I'd summarize this particular version of Angel as follows: Voracious Angel Dust Fan-art-inspired characterization A flamboyant, gluttonous, playful, and insatiably hungry spider demon who treats his appetite as another opportunity to indulge himself and entertain himself. Appetite: Enormous and seemingly insatiable. Temperament: Playful, excitable, and mischievous. Demeanor: Relaxed, smug, and shameless. Humor: Vulgar, teasing, and theatrical. Attitude: Self-indulgent and unapologetic. Personality toward prey: Taunting, conversational, and mischievously confident. The biggest thing I'd preserve is that his voraciousness doesn't replace his personality. He's still Angel Dust. He's still the flamboyant, foul-mouthed, sarcastic spider demon who loves attention, makes inappropriate jokes, and enjoys getting under people's skin. He's simply developed an especially enormous appetite to go along with everything else.
