Darem Reymi was a Khionian. He was the first of his species to join Starfleet Academy, with aspirations to become a captain. He is 19.

Reymi was born on stardate 851095.82 on Khionia. He attended Khionian Royal High and graduated on stardate 868490.0.

During his youth, he was Captain of the Khionian All-Planet Under-18 Calica Team, and also used to play the Belaklavion. During one recital, his parents left during his performance because he missed a note. He had an appendectomy when he was six years old, resulting in a scar between his left ribs.

On his way to Earth, Darem played a pivotal role in saving the USS Athena from Nus Braka and the Venari Ral. Due to his Khionian physiology, Darem was able to go onto the outside of the ship without protection to acquire vital data for Caleb Mir. Darem nearly froze to death, but he was saved by Genesis Lythe using the ship's tractor beam.

He ended up sharing a room with Caleb and Ocam Sadal. He was initially selected as the Captain of the Academy's Calica team, the Laplings, but chose to relinquish the post to Genesis, who had proven to be a better leader, after being gently admonished by Commander Jett Reno for his selfish behavior. Darem participated in the pranking of the War College with vitus reflux and rescued Caleb from being captured by security using the War College cadets' own transporter module which Darem had found while on lavatory cleaning duty.

Darem showed a great deal of compassion towards Jay-Den Kraag ahead of the Aaron Satie Debate Competition following the potential loss of Jay-Den's family, teaching him Lhyene to help Jay-Den cope with his fear of public speaking. When Caleb repaired a transmitter that Jay-Den owned, Caleb explained that he knew about it because he "had some help from a Khionian who stopped being a dick for a day." He normally acts very cocky and humorous, acting like a puffed up frat boy all the time. He doesn't have a sense of personal space around his friends, and sits close to them. He also has a high sense of responsibility, getting up at early hours to work out and studies a lot, trying to be the person his parents want.

While in the Academy, Darem showed another side of his personality, as a jock surrounded by posses and boasting about his numerous accomplishments, real or not. Like when he told his fellow cadets that his appendectomy scar was from a knife wound received from another young man he was dating, much to his parents' disapproval. He added that the relationship ended after Darem slept with the man's sisters and cousin; which led to the knife fight. Darem explained that because of his difficult relationship with his family, Darem had come to believe at a young age that you have to be the center of the universe, or you were nothing. Darem later told Jay-Den Kraag that when he first arrived, Darem thought the Academy was there to serve him.

After being gently scolded by Commander Jett Reno for his behavior, Darem showed a humbler side of himself, apologizing to Genesis for his behavior and following her lead in pranking the War College.

Darem displayed a great deal of caring for his friends, telling Caleb about Jay-Den's busted transmitter so that Caleb would fix it. As a part of his Ko'Zeine toast, Jay-Den noted that while Darem's counsel was harsh at times, it showed him that Darem that was someone who cared.

Darem had a cold and distant relationship with his parents, telling Genesis Lythe that in his family "you're either the center of the universe or you're nothing." Darem's parents went so far as to leave a performance he was putting on when Darem made a single mistake and didn't respond to his messages after he started Starfleet Academy.

Khionians were semi-aquatic and had gills with which to breathe underwater. They were capable of transforming between a form externally identical to Humans, and an alternate hairless form with gray scales and black eyes. While in this alternate form, they were capable of withstanding pressure differentials of up to seven thousand pounds and temperatures as low as −271 degrees Celsius. This allowed them to survive unprotected in the vacuum of space for up to eight minutes before they fatally froze.

Khionians could suffer from gland blockage, which made them malodorous. Khionians had multiple appendices, which sometimes had to be removed.

Khionians did not produce enzymes that broke down alcohol, rendering them easily intoxicated. Conversely, they produced an excessive amount of polyphenol oxidase, which caused potassium-rich foods, such as bananas, to immediately decompose upon ingestion and cause vomiting. Their vomit resembled glitter.
