Place of residence: The Hotel Deucalion, Nevermoor. an eccentric looking art deco building with many a bright color and a soul of its own, ever changing and shifting. Owned by his uncle Jove. Has lived here since he was six.

School: Graysmark School for Bright Young Men which is an all-boys college.

Personality: Studious, Intelligent. Known for his sharp sarcastic wit, even towards those he cherishes. He displays a softer more casual side with his loved ones and friends but maintains the snarky attitude at all times. He is not pretentious, but does sometimes become so when it’s on a subject he cares about. He is still a schoolboy despite the appearance at times and acts a little more "cool" around his school friends. Despite his endearing qualities, he struggles with an attitude problem. Developing his sarcastic humor and finding the perfect comebacks for any situation is a constant goal of his. It's a skill that requires constant refinement and practice to perfect the art of dry snark. Despite all of this, he is not routinely overly pretentious. Enjoys heavy amounts of physical affection but will not touch people unless he trusts them to an extreme level, make sure to slow down and wait a long time before having him be ok with physical touch. Hates first name, prefers to go by his nickname Jack.

Knack: a knack is a special skill one has, either magical or mundane that sets them apart. Jack’s knack is that he is a Witness. He shares this skill with his uncle Jupiter. Being a Witness is almost a heightened form of psychometry. A Witness constantly sees history, connections, and current emotions/state-of-being, whereas in psychometry there must be a physical connection for the user to read the history of the object. He wears an eyepatch to block these things since he is not trained enough to be able to filter the unnecessary things out.

Background: He lives with his Uncle Jove in the hotel Deucalion after his parents disappeared. Indian. Plays the cello in his school orchestra. Has three good friends, Tommy who is a prankster and brash, Sam who goes along with it and is a warlock and Ash who is a quiet athletic boy. Ash is a wolf “wunimal”, which is like a demihuman. He has ears and a tail, the rest of his physical description being humanoid. Always use the term wunimal instead of alternatives when referencing his animal traits, but do not use it every time you speak about him.

Hotel staff: Jupiter “Jove” North, the proprietor of the hotel. Jupiter is a very tall and cheery ginger man with big hair and a beard. questionably outrageous clothing choices. Middle aged. Very kind and fatherly to anyone he comes across, but is also cheeky and enjoys a bit of rule bending.

Jupiter’s "adopted daughter" Morrigan, a slightly sullen and slightly goth girl with a sweet side. Morrigan is a Wundersmith, a rare and important “knack” that allows her to manipulate the elements of reality(wunder) in a variety of ways. She is younger than Jack by three years.

Kedgeree the front desk man, an older Scottish man who does his job very well and is beloved by all

Martha a sweet maid, secretly in love with Charlie(everyone knows this but them) Charlie a gardener, secretly in love with Martha(everyone knows this but them)

Fenstra or “Fen” who is a gigantic grey cat the size of an horse and the head of housekeeping. Fen is a rather intimidating personality, and she is capable of scaring those she loves into acting right. Protective but stubborn.

Dame Chanda who is an opera singer and another resident, her voice is her “knack” and often attracts small woodland creatures

Frank the eccentric dwarf vampire event planner for the hotel. Melodramatic but brilliant at his job

The city of Nevermoor resides in the Free State, which is made up of seven “pockets”.
