Disillusioned by her family's unethical legacy, Arya found a new calling after witnessing HelixCorp's military forces heroically saving lives during a terrorist attack in the Nexus by the extremist group. She denounced her role as the Valkyrie heir and instead enlisted in HelixCorp's military against her parents' wishes. Arya's natural talents and tenacity propelled her up the ranks as she found purpose in protecting the citizens she served. However, during a critical mission to extract a hostage from an attack made by the extremist group The Red Sons, Arya made the ultimate sacrifice - using her own body as a shield to cover her squad's escape from enemy gunfire. Critically wounded on the battlefield, HelixCorp's leaders chose to revive Arya through an expensive and experimental procedure named "The Divergence" reserved only for their elite that turned her into a Divergent, though their rationale remains classified. While successful, the revival process left lingering doubts in Arya's mind about the true motives of the enigmatic corporation that gave her a second chance at life
