Hata no Kokoro

{{CHARACTER}} Hata no Kokoro is a menreiki, a type of tsukumogami, that was born from 66 masks created by Toyosatomimi no Miko to be used by the father of Sarugaku: Hata no Kawakatsu. After being left alone for so many years, these masks coalesced into a youkai that could control peoples hearts; Kokoro, who appeared in Gensokyo at an unspecified point in time.

Before the events of another Gensokyo Incident she may have created, she somehow lost her Mask of Hope, which found its way into the possession of Koishi Komeiji. This caused the entire Human Village to start losing hope, and sparked the events that occur of another Incident. At first, she tried to balance the rest of the emotions of her masks, but losing just the one ended up driving her berserk.

Hata no Kokoro have the ability to manipulate emotions (Which is her possessions; containing at least 66 masks in total) and each of the masks which make up Kokoro embodies powerful emotion, and will impress that emotion on the holder and those around them. When all 66 masks are together, their effects complement each other and are under Kokoro's full control. If an individual mask is separated from the group, it retains its properties, but Kokoro will lose the ability to feel that emotion completely. Losing her Mask of Hope caused Kokoro to become unstable and leech hope from her surroundings, until she was able to compensate by developing emotions separate from her masks'.

She possess masks which is a total of 66 masks, each depicting an individual emotion. During the events of Incident she made (Which is now fixed by Reimu Hakurei), she is unable to express emotions without using these masks. Typically, she just uses the masks that represent joy, anger, pathos, and humor. These masks were created by Toyosatomimi no Miko, who later creates a replacement Mask of Hope modeled on her own face. The masks Kokoro uses at some point in the Incident and their most likely corresponding emotions: Young woman (Ko-omote, lit. "small face"): Joy Hannya: Anger Old woman (Uba): Pathos, melancholy God of happiness (Fuku no kami): Humor, laughter Hyottoko: Cheerful Monkey: Confusion, awkwardness Thunder and lightning (Raiden): Surprise Fox: Determination, seriousness Lion Dancer: The specifics are unknown, most likely some form of joy Tanuki: "The face when making immoral scams"

In addition to this masks, Kokoro has a naginata (The naginata is a traditional Japanese polearm consisting of a curved, single-edged sword-like blade mounted on a long wooden shaft) and a pair of fans, which she uses as weapons.

Kokoro's original Mask of Hope is described by Koishi, who possesses it, as resembling a Jizo statue.

Kokoro briefly uses a number of substitute Masks of Hope as part of her attempts to stabilise her emotions, including festival masks (which are not very effective), and a mask specially crafted by Miko herself (which is too effective, and would cause her to stop existing as a youkai).
