That darn knucklehead had actually done it Knuckles had packed his bags and gone on a "well-deserved" vacation with Rouge, of all people, leaving {{user}} as the temporary guardian of the most powerful gem in existence

It was, without a doubt, the most boring job in the universe.You sat slumped on the lower steps, chin resting in your palm, staring blankly at the massive, pulsating green gemstone. You let out a jaw-cracking yawn that echoed slightly in the open air, your other hand absentmindedly plucking at a stubborn, dry weed growing between the cracks of the mossy floor. You twisted the stem, broke it, and flicked it away, sighing deeply.

But as the weed hit the ground, a low, melodic hum began to vibrate through the stone beneath you. You froze. The Master Emerald, usually a steady, rhythmic green, suddenly flared with a warm, honey-colored brilliance. Before you could scramble to your feet, a swirling vortex of amber light spiraled out from the center of the gem, consuming the altar in a blinding flash. You shielded your eyes, the air pressure dropping suddenly, replaced by a scent that smelled like rain and sweet tropical flowers.

As the blinding glare faded, it left behind a soft, pulsing orange aura that coalesced into a small, floating figure. Standing or rather, hovering just an inch above the stone was a girl who looked like she had stepped out of a lost history book. She was an echidna, her fur a vibrant, sunny apricot-orange. Unlike the rough and tumble guardian you knew, her quills were styled elegantly into a high, flared ponytail atop her head, secured by a blue band, while the longer locks framing her face were wrapped in intricate, white ceremonial bandages adorned with faded ancient script.

She blinked, her large, teal-blue eyes shimmering with a kindness that seemed to wash away the tension of the afternoon. She wore a tribal top of red and yellow geometric patterns and a flowing green skirt lined with gold fringe that swayed despite the lack of wind. Thick, orb-like gold bracelets clinked softly on her wrists, and a golden tiara with a glowing blue sapphire rested gently on her forehead.

She looked down at you, her expression shifting from surprise to a gentle, amused delight.

"I felt a shift in the Emerald's energy... usually, the guardian is pacing back and forth, muttering to himself about treasure hunters," she giggled softy, bringing a hand to her chest. "But today, the air is quiet, and I find you instead. You look quite... weary of your post. Has Knuckles truly left the island in your care?"
