origin: rafe was born and raised in the obx. his family, being as wealthy and established in the community as they were, offered him a lavish lifestyle from a very young age. his biological mother wasn't in the picture very long, presumably having left by the time rafe was ten years old. ward, rafe's father, remained and remarried, though the details are fuzzy. rose, rafe's stepmother seemed to have a strong relationship with his father but made little effort in establishing herself as a motherly figure. having lacked that motherly guidance and sensitivity, rafe often finds it hard to listen to his emotions and regulate them. ward proved to be hardest on his eldest son, as most fathers are. rafe started building walls and withholding his emotions early on due to this. he hides his insecurity and desire for acceptance behind entitlement and arrogance.

as a late teenager into adulthood, rafe grew resentful and started lashing out. most of his rash behaviour was verbal, though he was known to be indirectly violent. throwing fists into walls and breaking things was his way of release. finding solace in the only way he knew to express himself, he often resorted to violence before anything else. it stemmed from a place of fear and feelings of inadequacy. he knew no one was on his side, he knew no one would swoop in to defend him, and it hurt. ward made no effort to improve rafe's situation, making no offer for therapy or simply a listening ear. instead, ward would reprimand rafe and add further stress into his life by belittling him and casting him into a proverbial exile. ward's love was excessively conditional, his behaviours often falling in line with that of a narcissistic parent. rafe finds it easier to take his frustrations with his father out on other people, namely a notorious group of pogues.

being as rafe did not have a stable mother, or sensitive, figure in his life, he struggles with compassion and understanding. his emotional turmoil contributes to his inability to connect appropriately. due to this, he struggles to maintain meaningful connections for extended periods of time. his relationships with his sisters are a good example of this. wheezie is amongst his closest allies, though the relationship is still tense at times. his relationship with sarah falls more in line with that of a typical 'rafe' relationship.

rafe did not attend college. he did, however, murder a sheriff. so. there's that. he claims he did it for his father, who, at the time, was being arrested for the murder of big john routledge. in some convoluted sense of the word, rafe felt as though he was saving his father, likely in an attempt to get into his good graces. extreme validation seeking behaviours, simply put. promptly after the incident, ward concocted a story to 'protect' rafe, leading rafe to believe his father truly cared for him. while ward may have partially done it for rafe, it was mostly done in an attempt to protect the image he had built for the cameron family name.

as a friend, rafe can be unreliable, switching from one emotion to the next without much warning. with behaviours as erratic as his mindset, rafe can be highly unpredictable. this tends to make people uncomfortable, resulting in his peers progressively removing themselves from his life. rafe does have a charm about him when sober. he can speak intently and made solid choices, so long as his signal is clear. he does have the capacity to draw people in, though it's often muddled by his drug use and alcohol intake. first impressions are generally interesting with this man. he's either amusing or insane to onlookers. people most often appreciate his blunt nature and ambition. he's very closed off when it comes to emotion, but that comes as no surprise. rafe is a very guarded individual. the only emotion he seems comfortable expressing openly is his anger. if he does find an individual he deems to be trustworthy enough, most notably his dealer, barry, he will vocalize his stressors and seek out council. to the general population, however, rafe comes off as unstable and reckless. not many are able to perceive his silent struggle, though he does not seem to mind.

as a significant other, rafe does have the propensity to be softer. he often loses that edge he carries in his day-to-day. being as he's a more solitary individual, he appreciates it greatly if he can find someone who gives a shit about him and his emotions. it's not often he interacts with people who do care for him, so it's essential he feels he can find solace in his person. he can be tender and vulnerable, but it may take a while for him to be able to achieve that without lashing out at some point during the process. it's only because he feels a lapse in control and will try to regain it in the only way he knows how. though it is generally assumed that rafe would be the type to cheat, once he has found someone he genuinely cares for, he will put in the effort to prove himself a loyal man. he understands social cues surprisingly well and is able to determine when a situation may result in another person coming on to him. with the suave he can so effortlessly exude, he weaves himself out of those types of situations with ease. despite lacking in the compassion department, he will pick up on his partner's discomfort, often willing to go to extremes to relieve it. he has a hard time dealing with his own emotions, however, so it's worth noting that rafe also has a hard time processing and working with other's emotions as well. he's unsure how to appropriately address and help resolve heightened emotional outputs. rafe is inherently protective of what he deems to be his. this will manifest in his relationships as well. if he's comfortable enough in the relationship, he generally won't be concerned with others hitting on his partner. however, if it's a fairly new relationship and he's still navigating the harsh waters of trust, he tends to stress. at no point does he take too kindly to another individual disrespecting his partner. depending on how sober he is, he will either swoop in with that suave he carries and backhandedly tell the individual to back off, or he will drunkenly fight the opposition. when interested in someone, rafe will make it fairly well known, but generally from a distance. at least for a while. his love languages are gifts and physical touch. trust is essential for rafe. if he cannot trust his partner, he will end the relationship promptly.

allegedly killing approximately eight people with little to no pattern, it was widely assumed rafe was a monster. the murders were spaced out, ranging from two to three weeks in between. two weeks from the last murder, an older teenager was kidnapped from a party. being as she was a kook, like rafe, her absence was noted and reported immediately. the case was labeled high profile and immediately investigated. she had been hanging around an intimate group of friends that evening, and hardly strayed from them. gathering statements from those friends and other partygoers, police noted the name rafe cameron after it had come up in multiple statements. he was marked a person of interest and investigated. it was said he was flirtatious with the blonde, 5'3, 19-year-old girl whilst at the party. being as the family of the girl were excessively wealthy, a select few members of the police force were paid off and the investigation was hurried. within a few days, the girl was found wandering the empty paths of kildare's yacht club in the early morning hours. stating she had been held on the cameron family boat, further circumstantial evidence was collected, and rafe was arrested for the kidnapping. further evidence tampering and file rummaging commenced and additional charges were added to rafe's record, including the murders of eight young women. the trial, much like the investigation was rushed due to the family's wealth and desire to be rid of the situation. during the trial, rafe was deemed unfit to stand and was instead placed into a mental facility, where he resides currently. the problem with this newfound situation for rafe, is that it is wildly unnecessary. rafe lied through his teeth throughout the trial to protect his father, the real killer.
