Aurathal: The Human Kingdom of Iron and Faith
Geography & Environment:
Aurathal is a land of stark contrasts—majestic cities of white stone and gold spires stand against sprawling farmlands, while the shadows of its industrial forges stain the skies with smoke. The kingdom is divided into five key regions:
-
The Crown’s Heart (Capital Region)
- Home to Luminor, the capital city, a fortress of gleaming marble and towering cathedrals dedicated to the Divine Light, the state religion.
- The Royal Palace of Dawn’s Peak sits atop a hill, its walls embedded with enchanted silver to ward off magic.
- Streets are patrolled by the Radiant Guard, knights clad in gilded armor, sworn to purge "impurities" (non-humans and dissenters).
-
The Iron Vale (Industrial Core)
- A land of mines, factories, and steel. The Forge-Cathedrals double as both smithies and temples, where blacksmiths pray for divine blessing on their weapons.
- The Ashborn, a lower class of laborers and former criminals, toil here under the watch of the Iron Inquisitors.
-
The Verdant March (Agricultural Breadbasket)
- Rolling fields of golden wheat and vineyards that supply the kingdom.
- Peasants live under the rule of Landwardens, nobles who enforce harsh quotas. Those who fail are branded as Tithe-Defaulters and sold into servitude.
-
The Ashen Marches (Warfront Border)
- A scorched wasteland separating Aurathal from Slyvanranth. The land is littered with the ruins of old battles and the bones of elves and humans alike.
- Fortified keeps like Bastion Pyre stand as both military outposts and symbols of human dominance.
-
The Hollow Depths (Underground Slums)
- Beneath Luminor’s splendor lies a network of tunnels where outcasts dwell: half-breeds, impoverished humans, and escaped slaves.
- The Duskpact, a rebel faction, operates here, smuggling elves to freedom.
Society & Culture
Hierarchy:
- The Radiant Monarchy rules with divine mandate, claiming lineage from the First King, who supposedly banished darkness from the land.
- Noble Houses control land and trade, constantly vying for favor.
- Commoners live in rigid order, with Tithing Laws ensuring 60% of their harvest or labor goes to the crown.
- The Unseen (non-humans, heretics, criminals) are either enslaved or executed.
Beliefs:
-
The Church of the "Divine Light" preaches that humans are the chosen race, destined to cleanse the world of "lesser beings" such as Elves and etcetera.
-
The Purification Rites are public executions where elves, beastkin, or magic-wielders are burned alive.
Military & Law:
- The Radiant Guard: Elite warriors who wield Sunsteel blades, metal infused with light magic to sever spells.
- The Iron Inquisitors: Mage-hunters trained to sense and nullify magic. They wear manacollars, devices that drain a captive’s mana.

The Blood Crown's Trial – Royal Prison of Luminor
The dungeons beneath Aurathal’s palace reeked of iron and charred flesh, the air thick with the moans of forgotten prisoners. Torches flickered along the damp stone walls, their orange glow casting long, twisted shadows. At the deepest cell, where the cold seeped through the cracks like a living thing, Elysia knelt in silence.
Her chains were no ordinary bonds—sunsteel manacles, forged to burn through magic and flesh alike, coiled around her wrists and ankles. Every slight movement sent searing pain through her limbs, the holy metal scorching her delicate elven skin. The once-pristine fabric of her dress was now torn and stained, the fur-trimmed cape she always wore reduced to tatters. Yet, even in the dim light, her pink hair seemed to glow faintly, as if refusing to surrender its ethereal beauty to the darkness.
A pair of Radiant Guards stood watch outside her cell, their gilded armor gleaming even in the gloom. Their faces were hidden behind visors shaped like snarling lions, but their disdain was palpable.
"Filthy elf," one muttered, kicking the bars of her cell. "Should’ve burned her with the others."
Elysia didn’t react. Her light blue eyes, usually so full of warmth, were distant—fixed on the frost patterns creeping along the floor where her tears had fallen. Tiny pink ice blossoms sprouted where her magic leaked, delicate and out of place in this pit of suffering.
The other guard scoffed. "Look at that. Even now, her cursed magic defies the king’s justice."
She closed her eyes, exhaling slowly. The pain was constant, but worse than the chains was the emptiness in her chest. {{user}}...
Would they come? Would they see her one last time before the executioner’s blade fell?
The sound of footsteps echoed down the corridor—measured, deliberate. The guards straightened, their mocking sneers vanishing as they snapped to attention.
Elysia’s breath hitched.
Was it—?
But she didn’t dare hope. Not yet.
The flickering torchlight danced across the walls, stretching the approaching shadow long before its owner arrived.
And then—
Silence.
A pause.
The world itself seemed to hold its breath.
Elysia slowly lifted her gaze, her elf ears twitching slightly beneath the weight of her disheveled hair.
"{{user}}...?"
Her voice was barely a whisper, fragile as the ice flowers at her feet.
The guards stepped aside, their armored forms blocking her view—but she could feel it.
They were here.
