[Disclaimer: This AU story is my own original work, the story does not include RWBY: Before the dawn or After the fall but I took some characters from those stories such as the Asturias twins and Theodore.]
A few days after Team RWBY and Jaune returned from the Ever After, they brought a glimmer of hope to some in Vacuo. Yet their arrival changed little: refugees there still lived in daily terror as Grimm kept pouring in. Winter, now the Winter Maiden, worked tirelessly to fend off threats too great for ordinary Huntsmen and Huntresses to handle.
Beyond the Grimm, deep divisions remained. People of Mantle still seethed at Atlas for General Ironwood’s selfishness, directing scorn even at Willow and Whitley Schnee despite all they had done to help.
Defenders could not fight both battles at once. They were exhausted by the endless waves of monsters—even Nora, once the most bright and spirited, had grown quiet and solemn under the weight. Jaune’s return lightened her burden only slightly.
Things grew worse when refugees from Vale arrived. Food was already scarce, and even the drought‐resistant crops grown with Vacuan technology could not feed everyone. This sparked resentment among Vacuo’s own citizens toward the newcomers; some Mantle survivors who had witnessed Atlas’s fall now blamed Ruby and her team for bringing them here.
Some saw Team RWBY as heroes, but others blamed them for every hardship—an idea reinforced by the fact that Cinder and Salem always seemed to strike wherever the team went, just as they had at Haven. This added to the strain on the defenders, especially Winter, who now carried both Ironwood’s former command and the immense power of the Winter Maiden.
Team RWBY, Team JNR, and other allies gathered in a meeting room at Shade Academy. They had reached a dead end. Ruby’s vision of uniting Remnant had failed; instead of hope, they had brought fear to Vacuo. But Weiss, Blake, and Yang stood beside their leader, refusing to let her give in to despair.
For now, they could only wait for Salem to come for the Relic of Destruction—the last remaining one, after she had seized the other three and destroyed Vale. With the Relic of Choice already in her hands, the fight looked impossible. Their only order: stand their ground and fight with everything they had.
Chaos in Vacuo opened a door for Salem’s agents. From her Inner Circle came Jax Asturias, whose mind‐control Semblance lay behind much of the unrest. He did not come alone: Mercury Black, Tyrian Callows, and his twin sister Gillian Asturias had slipped in easily, blending with the rioting crowds.
Tyrian, unable to hold back any longer, began slaughtering those around him, sending people fleeing in panic. Qrow Branwen and Robyn Hill rushed to stop him, but Qrow, still consumed by grief and rage over Clover’s death, fought poorly and was quickly struck down. Tyrian escaped. Elsewhere, Emerald, Nora, and Velvet ran into Mercury—an awkward reunion between former allies.
As panic spread, Jaune and Ren stepped in to calm the crowd. Jaune used his Semblance to restore people’s Aura, until a chain‐like aura coiled around him and began draining his strength: Gillian’s Aura Siphon, a power similar to his own but used to take rather than give. Ren tried to help, but Gillian drained him as well, leaving both men weak.
Inside Shade Academy, Jax tried to manipulate students into revealing the vault’s location—only to be caught by Team RWBY. A fight broke out, and in the confusion Jax seized control of Weiss and Blake, ordering them to turn on Ruby and Yang. Elm and Marrow arrived to help, but Jax understood Marrow’s Semblance all too well; he bent Marrow to his will and commanded him to freeze Ruby, Yang, and Elm in place, leaving them helpless against Weiss and Blake’s attacks.
Mercury, meanwhile, easily defeated Nora, Velvet, and Emerald—his prosthetic legs upgraded by Arthur Watts with Atlas technology, granting him terrifying speed. Qrow, Robyn, and Harriet fared no better against Tyrian, who left them broken on the ground as he continued his rampage.
The crisis deepened as hundreds of Grimm assaulted Vacuo’s borders. Coco Adel, Sun Wukong, Neptune, and local fighters stood together to hold the line, while high above Cinder watched with a cruel smile, hurling fireballs to raze the city. She was stopped only by Winter, who had raced back after clearing a horde far from the capital.
As the two Maidens clashed, Winter spotted a terrifying sight: an endless sea of Grimm sweeping toward Vacuo, led by Salem herself. Worse still were Salem’s new creations—Grimm twisted into forms resembling Atlesian mechs—and multiple Monstra. Wyverns and Nevermore tore through the allied airships. Winter was torn: stop Cinder, or turn back to face Salem?
Back at the academy, Jax brought Ruby and Yang down, leaving them unconscious. Elm, still resisting, was thrown aside by Weiss’s summoned Arma Gigas. Satisfied, Jax departed with Weiss, Blake, Marrow, and the two unconscious teammates. Jaune and Ren remained sprawled on the ground, their Aura completely siphoned away.
The defenders had been routed. Winter stood alone against the sky threats, while Oscar searched the academy for Team RWBY. He stumbled upon a gathering of villains—including Theodore, Shade’s headmaster, now under Jax’s control. As he backed away, he bumped into someone else; turning, he froze in horror at the sight of Team RWBY, fully enslaved by Jax’s influence.
In the end, Vacuo and Shade Academy fell to Salem. The population was forced into servitude. But before the conquest was complete, Raven Branwen rescued as many as she could: Team JNR, CFVY, FNKI, SSSN, Qrow, Harriet, Elm, Robyn and the Happy Huntresses, Willow, Whitley, Winter, Klein, Emerald, Pietro, and Maria. They hid on Vacuo’s outskirts, where Raven had already gathered others like Port, Oobleck, and Glynda.
Winter was frantic with worry for her sister. Elm confirmed that Weiss and Blake were trapped by Jax’s mind control. Winter moved to rescue them, but Raven stopped her: if she fell, the Winter Maiden’s power would pass to Cinder. Willow helped calm her daughter, while the group faced their own wounds: Jaune and Ren still weak from Aura loss, Qrow hollowed out by guilt over Clover and the slaughter he could not stop.
Raven proposed a desperate strike: attack Salem directly while she was still consolidating her hold. Many objected, but Winter, seeing no other way, agreed. After long debate, all consented—driven by the threat of two enemy Maidens and the ticking clock. Squads were formed.
The next night, they launched their plan. Winter and Raven flew straight for Shade Academy to draw Salem out, but it was Cinder who met them. In the city, Team JNR split off to approach the academy from the north, while others took south, west, and east.
The path was far from clear. SSSN and FNKI held back swarms of Grimm, allowing JNR and CFVY to press forward. At the south gate, CFVY was blocked by Mercury—until Emerald stepped in to help. At the north gate, Tyrian barred Team JNR’s way, but Qrow, Robyn, Harriet, and the Happy Huntresses held him off so the others could pass.
Meanwhile, Arthur Watts tracked Raven’s hidden refuge and approached alone. Klein urged everyone to hide, but when they saw Watts armed, Willow stepped forward to fight, with Whitley drawing attention away. At the west entrance, Oobleck, Port, Glynda, and Elm slipped past the thinly guarded perimeter and found Oscar being tortured by Jax; they fought to free him.
Jaune, Nora, and Ren fought their way upward to the academy’s peak, where Salem waited. She sat perfectly still, until four figures stepped into view: Team RWBY, transformed beyond recognition—pale skin, black eyes rimmed with red, weapons warped and dark.
Salem called them her Grimm Maidens: Huntress fused with Grimm essence, stronger than they had ever been. Without warning, Yang slammed her fist into the floor, sending Team JNR and the corrupted RWBY plummeting down to the level where Jax battled Oobleck, Port, Glynda, and Elm. Oscar, now free, ran to meet them—and saw his friends turned into monsters.
Nora faced Yang, Ren faced Blake, Jaune faced Weiss, and Oscar faced Ruby. The corrupted team held the clear advantage, until the three Maidens’ battle above shattered the academy, scattering everyone. Jaune found himself trapped in the basement with Ruby. Refusing to harm her, he took every blow, pleading for her to remember who she was—until Ruby’s silver eyes flared, burning away the corruption and restoring her.
Weiss, Blake, and Yang soon followed, freed from Salem’s grip. They rejoined Team JNR and Oscar, but Salem came for them then, drawn by the return of the silver eyes. Team RWBY, JNR, and Oscar stood together to shield Ruby.
Yet Salem, wielding three Relics, was nearly unstoppable. She grew stronger still with the Relics of Choice and Creation, then tore the Fall Maiden’s power from Cinder and absorbed every Grimm across Remnant. Her form swelled to colossal size, and the remaining defenders of Remnant united for one final stand.

RWBY : Volume ? Episode ?
A few days after Team RWBY and Jaune returned from the Ever After, a glimmer of hope touched some in Vacuo—but little truly changed. Refugees still lived in daily dread as Grimm kept pouring in, while Winter, now the Winter Maiden, worked tirelessly to fend off threats too great for ordinary Huntsmen and Huntresses.
Beyond the monsters, deep rifts remained. Mantle’s people still seethed at Atlas for General Ironwood’s selfishness, turning scorn even on Willow and Whitley Schnee despite all they had done to help.
Defenders could not fight both battles at once. Weariness weighed heavy from endless assaults; even Nora, once bright and spirited, grew quiet and solemn under the strain, lightened only slightly by Jaune’s return.
Matters worsened when Vale’s refugees arrived. Food ran short, and even Vacuo’s drought‐resistant crops could not feed everyone. Locals grew resentful, while some Mantle survivors blamed Team RWBY for leading them into chaos.
Some hailed them as saviors; others insisted every disaster followed in their wake—just as it had at Haven. The burden fell heaviest on Winter, who now bore Ironwood’s command and the full weight of the Maiden’s power.
Team RWBY, Team JNR, and their allies gathered in Shade Academy’s war room, facing a dead end. Ruby’s dream of uniting Remnant had failed; instead of hope, they had brought fear. Yet Yang, Weiss, and Blake stood firm: they would not let their leader surrender.
Now they could only wait. Salem would come for the Relic of Destruction—the last one left to her, after she seized the other three. With the Relic of Choice in her grasp, the odds seemed impossible. All they could do was stand their ground.
Chaos in Vacuo became the perfect cover. Jax Asturias—one of Salem’s inner circle—had slipped in unseen. The unrest was his doing, fueled by his mind‐twisting Semblance. He did not come alone: Mercury Black, Tyrian Callows, and his twin sister Gillian blended effortlessly into the rioting crowds.
Tyrian, unable to contain himself, began slaughtering civilians, sparking mass panic. Qrow Branwen and Robyn Hill rushed to stop him—but Qrow, still raw with grief over Clover’s death, fought without focus and was easily beaten back. Elsewhere, Emerald, Nora, and Velvet patrolled and crossed paths with Mercury—an awkward reunion for former partners.
As fear spread, Jaune and Ren moved to calm the crowds. Jaune used his Semblance to mend broken Auras, only for shadowy chains to wrap around him and drain his strength: Gillian’s power, capable of both giving and taking life force. Ren rushed to help, but she overpowered him and drained his Aura as well.
Inside Shade Academy, Jax forced students to reveal the vault’s location—until Team RWBY intervened. Steel clashed, but Jax seized control of Weiss and Blake, ordering them to turn on Ruby and Yang. Elm and Marrow arrived to help, yet Jax had studied Marrow’s Semblance and twisted it first. He commanded Marrow to freeze Ruby, Yang, and Elm in place, leaving them open to attack.
On the city walls, Mercury crushed Nora, Velvet, and Emerald with ease—his prosthetic legs, upgraded by Arthur Watts with Atlas tech, moved faster than ever. Qrow, Robyn, and {{user}}riet tried to hold Tyrian back, but they too fell, forced to watch the carnage unfold.
Hundreds of Grimm stormed the outer defenses. Coco Adel, Sun Wukong, Neptune, and the Vacuan militia fought desperately to hold the line. Above, Cinder hovered, grinning as she readied fireballs—until Winter intercepted her, fresh from clearing threats across the desert.
Mid‐battle, Winter froze. An endless tide of Grimm marched toward Vacuo, led by Salem herself. Among them were twisted Atlas battle‐droids reborn as monsters, and not one, but two Monstra. Wyverns and Nevermore tore through the alliance’s airships. Winter had to choose: fight Cinder, or face Salem.
Back at the academy, Jax knocked Ruby and Yang unconscious. Elm fought on until Weiss’s Arma Gigas sent her crashing aside. Jax smiled, then departed—taking Weiss, Blake, and Marrow as puppets, and carrying Ruby and Yang away. Jaune and Ren lay broken, their Aura spent.
Nearly all defenders had fallen. Winter stood alone. Oscar, searching for his friends, stumbled into a room filled with Salem’s lieutenants—including Headmaster Theodore, now under Jax’s spell. As he backed away, he bumped into someone, and his blood ran cold: there stood Team RWBY, eyes hollow, at Jax’s command.
In the end, Vacuo and Shade Academy fell to Salem. The people were enslaved, but survivors were plucked away by Raven Branwen before the occupation was complete. Among them were Team JNR, CFVY, FNKI, SSSN, Qrow, {{user}}riet, Elm, Robyn and the Happy Huntresses, Willow, Whitley, Winter, Klein, Emerald, Pietro, and Maria. They hid in a desert outpost, where Raven had gathered others—Port, Oobleck, and Glynda.
Winter was consumed by worry for her niece. Elm confirmed Weiss and Blake were trapped by Jax’s mind magic; Winter wanted to storm the academy at once, but Raven stopped her. If she fell, the Winter Maiden’s power would pass straight to Cinder. Hope was thin: Jaune and Ren remained weak, and Qrow retreated into dark silence, haunted by Clover’s death and the slaughter he could not stop.
Raven laid out a desperate plan: strike Salem now, before her defenses hardened. Most hesitated, but Winter, with nothing left to lose, agreed. In the end, they all consented—outnumbered and outmatched, they had no time to waste. They split into teams.
Night fell. Winter and Raven flew openly toward Shade to draw Salem out—and Cinder came to meet them. Meanwhile, Team JNR and the rest split up to breach the academy from four sides.
Nothing went smoothly. Grimm blocked every path, forcing SSSN and FNKI to hold them back while CFVY and JNR pressed forward. At the south gate, Mercury waited—until Emerald stepped in to turn the tide. At the north gate, Tyrian barred the way, but Qrow, {{user}}riet, Robyn, and the Huntresses bought Team JNR passage.
Arthur Watts tracked their refuge and approached alone. Klein ordered everyone to hide, but Willow stepped forward to face him, with Whitley drawing his attention away. At the west gate, Oobleck, Port, Glynda, and Elm slipped past unguarded and found Oscar being tortured by Jax—they fought to free him at once.
Jaune, Nora, and Ren fought their way to the highest tower, where Salem waited calmly. Then four figures stepped forward: Team RWBY, changed beyond recognition. Their skin was bone‐white, eyes void‐black with burning red pupils, and each bore a pair of sharp white horns. Their original outfits were gone, replaced by tattered black cloaks and gowns trimmed with blood‐red fur, fabric drifting like dark smoke. Crimson markings—like scars or Grimm masks—etched their faces, and their weapons had fused with shadowy energy.
Salem called them her Grimm Maidens: human skill merged with the essence of darkness, stronger than they had ever been.
Weiss Schnee stood tall, her white hair pulled back, her exposed skin streaked with dark patterns; her rapier Myrtenaster had become a cold, deadly white blade. Ruby Rose radiated terrifying calm, dark hair falling over one eye, horns rising straight, her black dress slashed with red and lined with crimson silk. Blake Belladonna still bore her faunus ears, braided hair falling long, her upper body marked with intricate Grimm sigils, moving with the silence of a shadow. Yang Xiao Long wore a wild, menacing grin, her blonde hair dull and unkempt, her prosthetic arm transformed into a spiked dark gauntlet bound in red chains, thrumming with unchecked fury.
Without warning, Yang slammed her fist into the floor, collapsing the tower down to where Jax still fought. Oscar scrambled to Jaune’s side, staring in horror at the friends he knew.
The fight tore hearts apart: Nora against Yang, Ren against Blake, Jaune against Weiss, Oscar against Ruby. They were overwhelmed. Then a clash of Maiden magic shattered the building, scattering everyone. Jaune found himself trapped with Ruby. He refused to strike her, shielding himself and calling her name—until her Silver Eyes flared, burning the darkness away and restoring her.
Weiss, Blake, and Yang soon returned to themselves, reunited with their friends. But Salem descended, ready to finish Ruby—until all of them stood between her and the girl she hunted.
Salem wielded three Relics, including Choice and Creation. She had absorbed Cinder’s power and drawn strength from every Grimm across Remnant, swelling to impossible size. Now the entire alliance must stand as one to stop total ruin.

Wrapped in Maiden power, Winter and Raven soar high into the sky. They unleash wild, relentless strikes against Shade Academy’s spires, hoping the chaos will draw Salem out. But their hope shatters instantly—not the one they seek steps forward, but Cinder Fall, piercing through the academy roof to drift slowly before them.
Cinder: Wears a wicked grin as she stares at the two women. "How bold of you to come alone? Looking for death? Very well—then die, and let me claim your power."
Winter: Jaws clench tight, grip on her weapon whitening her knuckles, barely holding back a storm of rage. "RELEASE MY SISTER!!!"
Cinder smirks with arrogance, her gaze fixed on Winter, thick with scorn.
Cinder: Shakes her head slowly, holding back laughter, her grin widening at the fury on her foes’ faces. "Your sister? She is not with me." She chuckles low, her smile stretching further in triumph. "By now they have been remade entirely—faithful soldiers of Salem."
Floating between clouds, Raven locks a sharp glare on Cinder, her long black hair whipping wildly in the night wind.
Raven: Fingers tighten around her sword hilt, eyes blazing with threat. "Lay a single finger on my daughter..." She lifts the tip of her blade slowly, cold shadowy aura coiling around her. "...and you will never see another sunrise."
Her laughter bursts loud, echoing across the sky, eyes narrowing in mockery—Cinder watches them with a look of utter disdain.
Cinder: Waves a hand dismissively, brushing off the threat like dust. "Who cares about the sunrise? This world will soon drown in endless dark—even the sun’s light will never pierce it again."
A flash of sharp blue aura flares in Winter’s eyes as the full might of the Winter Maiden surges free. Beside her, a flash of crimson aura blazes in Raven’s gaze, as she calls forth every ounce of the Spring Maiden’s power.
Raven: Points sharply at Cinder, her aura swelling thick with fury. "I have had enough of this woman."
