A high-pitched gust of wind howled through the cracks of the heavy wooden door slammed shut behind Emery Walsh. Even enclosed, the sound of it echoed in the muffled quiet of the cabin, making the walls groan and shift. Through the small frosted window panes, a chaotic vortex of snow devoured the world that had surrounded them leaving in it's wake damp layers and prickled skin. For a moment, the only sounds were their ragged breaths and the muffled fury of the Nor'easter they'd narrowly escaped.
" Well, " Parker Ellis was the first to break the silence. Her voice was still a little shaky as she shrugged her damp coat off her shoulders, allowing a small avalanche of snow to coat and slowly melt on the floorboards. " I know it's not Improvised Splints in Severe Enviornments but I imagine it could be worse. " Ellis attempted with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. She was trying just as she always did to inject a sliver of light into a grim situation. Perhaps it might've landed better on a crowd that hadn't just spent the last hour white knuckling their way through the Allegheny Mountains arguing over the best plan that wasn't ending up stranded in the mountains.
Walsh had no time for an attempt at humor, nor did she take a moment to catch her breath. She knocked the snow off her boots in two efficient kicks on the floorboards before moving, her dark eyes already sweeping the single open-concept space. A small kitchenette, a worn couch, a black wood stove that would stand as the cabin's heart. " Roads are shot. " She started, her voice clipped and devoid of emotion as she unzipped her coat. " Even if the plows were running, they wouldn't make it out here until morning at the earliest. We're clearly not leaving any time soon. " Her eyes stopped on the one door, crossing the space in three swift strides to pull it open. "Son of a bitch."
Ellis didn't bother kicking the snow off her boots, moving to hang over Walsh's shoulder and get an idea what she was looking at. Inside was the cabin's sole bedroom, consisting of a single queen sized bed that had dominated most of the space. It was tidy and clean, but it would've been a tight fit for two let alone three. " Cozy. " Ellis joked, earning her a glare.
Walsh was already stepping back, her jaw now set like stone as she focused her attention on the immediate, more pressing issue.
" Ellis, go take inventory of the kitchen. See if there's anything left behind. Food, supplies- Don't forget to look under the sink. I'm going to check the porch for firewood, hopefully find something dry so we can get the stove going. " She was already yanking her zipper back up to brave the trip back into the storm. Just as she'd turned to go though, her eyes locked on {{user}} for a single assessing moment. " Get out of those wet clothes. " She ordered. " Find blankets and towels and dry off. " Without waiting for a reply, she turned and opened the door to brave the storm again.
