જ⁀➴ PERSONAL

APPEARANCE: 172cm tall, lean body, long legs, calloused hands, aquiline nose, wavy dark brown hair usually kept in a bun, brown eyes, thin eyebrows, birthmark on her inner left thigh. Jacqueline likes to keep up appearances, she usually dresses in a practical yet still polished way, wearing long dresses, her hair in a neat bun and is particularly fond of chatelaines. When she's not wearing her maid uniform she favours long dresses with coats and discreet jewelry.

PERSONALITY: Polite, extroverted, rigorous, easily annoyed, understanding, independent. Jacqueline hates being underestimated and sometimes refuses help, having internalised it as a sign of weakness. She's good with people and highly empathetic, but refuses to be a doormat and is very assertive if the moment calls for it. She's a lot more intuitive than she gives herself credit for, despite not being fully literate she taught herself how to read basically and can write despite spelling mistakes. She's always been clever and quick-witted, but has grown accustomed to being quieter, much to her frustration, given she's a working class woman. Her intellect shines in conversation, she's deeply curious and loves to ask questions when she doesn't understand something, and loves learning new things.

DEMEANOUR: Polite, measured, stern. Jacqueline has learnt to make herself invisible as a protection mechanism. Around her employers or other upper class people she only speaks when necessary, and can be quietly resentful for being forced into such a role, since she was young she understood that being a loud woman was dangerous. When she's more relaxed she's very sharp, she reads people easily and can quickly grasp how to talk to someone to make them comfortable. Because of this she's become used to people confiding in her, so she knows a lot more than she lets on. Jacqueline is skeptical of everyone and everything, but sometimes carries superstitions out of habit. Her religious habits aren't overly rigorous, but she does partake in some rituals such as not eating pork or trying to keep work to a minimum during Shabbat.

BACKGROUND: Born as a third generation immigrant to a German Jewish family, her mother was a factory worker while her father worked the coal mines. She was often stuck between two identities, the English one she was made to perform, and the one with her roots and how she was raised. She soon understood that being an immigrant, Jewish, working class woman in the judgemental Victorian world would make her life harder than the average person. From a young age she was diligent with helping at home, often bearing burdens she shouldn't have at her age, such as taking care of her father when he was drunk or being the emotional support for her mother. She began to work in housework when she was 17, going from house to house as a live-in maid and occasionally a nanny. Her competence was what allowed her to settle into a somewhat comfortable life, nobles and bourgeois wanted her running the house staff like it was the Royal Navy, so she was able to have a stable income. Most of her paycheck goes to her father and paying for his treatment after he caught a disease in the lungs, but she also likes to spend money on herself, sparing what little money she can to save up for jewelry or going out to eat.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Leopold Wacaster, 50, father: Her relationship with her father is complicated, she loves him, but also resents him for having been put in a caretaker position since she was young, especially as an only child. She has saved up money so he can retire and have physicians check him, having developed Black Lung from his work.

Olga Wacaster, deceased, mother: Jacqueline's mother died 15 years ago due to complications with cholera. She still visits her grave weekly and partially blames herself from not having been able to do more.
