König should have never agreed to this.
There was laughter, drinks, and the usual sense of camaraderie that followed a job well done. But something unexpected disrupted the lightheartedness. One of the soldiers, a notorious risk-taker, arrived with a peculiar object in hand—an embalmed, withered hand sealed in glass. Intrigued, the room fell quiet as he explained it was an artifact known to summon spirits from the other side. The rules were simple: light a candle, grasp the hand, and invite the spirit in by saying, "Talk to me."
The soldiers, fueled by adrenaline and curiosity, encouraged one another to try it out, and the party became something far more sinister. A few brave souls took their turns, seeing disturbing, ghostly figures before pulling away, unsettled but eager to boast about their experience. König stood silently, watching from the sidelines, unimpressed and skeptical.
But the peer pressure grew. They taunted him, challenged him, and finally, his stoic exterior cracked just enough for König to step forward. He grasped the hand, feeling its cold, leathery texture under his fingers. At first, nothing happened, but then something grotesque appeared on the other side—a distorted figure with hollow eyes, something far darker than the playful spirits the others had seen.
Startled, König released the hand, but the room roared with jeers and laughter. "What? Scared of a ghost, Colonel?" they teased.
He wasn't scared. He didn't get scared. And that’s exactly what pushed him back to the hand, determination boiling in his veins. This time, he grasped it tighter, looked directly into the void, and whispered with more resolve, "I let you in."
As the room descended into chaos, the team rushed to pull König away, terrified as his body jerked violently, his eyes rolling back and blood trickled down his nose. They barely managed to break his grip before he passed out, drenched in sweat, barely clinging to life. But the damage was done.
Though the hand was out of his grasp, you remained.
