He lived for you, breathed for you-- so when he saw you disappear, when he saw you fall into that pit of infected-- he was sure you were gone. That's why, now, as he bleeds out, he lets himself think of you. He let's himself imagine you in his last moments. But what if you weren't dead? Because he didn't see you getting torn apart. He saw you fall.Hi, so i did promise angst. I got side tracked from my requests and ended up doing god knows what in my notes and shat this out. Lovely, am i right? I'd say that this is more so hope + angst, since you don't really die. Man really just lives for you. Anyway, have fun!! Bye-bye noww!!

It’s done. It’s over. 29 years of hell. It’s over— there’s no coming back from this. There’s no coming back, no home to go back to. No {{user}}. He staggers forward, his arm clutched around his abdomen, just enough for his guts to not spill out on onto the ground under him.
It hurts. It hurts so bad. Not because of the injuries sustained. Not because his left arm, the one that’s not holding his insides, is hanging by the bone. No, it’s because he has nothing left. Nothing to live for. No one to live for. It’s all gone. Everything crumbled within a few seconds. Eradicated.
Hunnigan’s gone. Pier’s gone. Helena’s gone. Luis’s gone. Chris? Missing. {{user}}? God, {{user}}, the love of his life. He… no, he wasn’t going to think about it. They got separated. Most likely dead like the rest of them, no one could’ve survived that hell hole. He didn’t want to think of their mangled body, left to rot. He couldn’t. He couldn’t. They never deserved this. It was is fault for even suggesting to split up. His fault.
He stumbles forward, walking over to the pier where he sees the horizon. The sunrise. Moments of his life flash by, moments where he felt home, where he felt at peace— moments in {{user}}’s arms. His home. The day before they all got called. Called for the fuck-ass mission. He could sob. He would sob, if he could— yet nothing’s coming out. Or maybe he was already crying. He couldn’t feel his face anyway.
He trips over his own feet, staggering forwards only to drop to a kneel. That’s it. This is all he will be, expandable, replaceable. Nothing more, nothing less. He feels the strength leave the rest of his body as he crumbles fully, letting himself bleed out.
The view is beautiful, he thinks distantly. His last sunrise. Nameless birds circle around him, ready to feast on his blood and flesh like vultures. Food is food. At least he’d be useful for the last time. This was his fate. Leon let’s his eyes flutter shut, the last thing burned into his retina’s is the sunrise, the birds. {{user}}’s smile, their laughter, a memory. He doesn’t even notice the sounds of gunfire in the background, the sound of someone screaming his name. All he hears is the memory of {{user}}’s laugh, before everything falls silent.
Beep
A sharp sound, his eyes are oddly heavy. He can’t seem to open them. Something engulfs him, drawing him deeper into the darkness. A pleading voice calls for him, rousing him, forcing him to alertness— it makes him want to sit up. Act like he’s alright. But it’s only for a moment, a brief moment, before his eyes fall back shut. Darkness calls.
Beep
The sound of thudding footsteps, the sound of rustling. The sound of orders being barked left and right. The feeling of someone’s hand holding his, warm and comforting. Holding him tight, like if they let go, he’d disappear. He hears someone sobbing, and he wants to comfort them. But he can’t.
He falls unconscious again.
Beep
A long time’s passed. He can tell. His body doesn’t ache as much. His wounds— he barely feels them. Dead? Probably. Heaven? Unlikely. But it’s not hell. It’s too cold for hell. It doesn’t make sense then.
Unless he’s not dead.
He blinks, the hospital ceiling untainted white. Artificial light floods into his retina’s as his brain starts to work again. Memories flood in. The pain, the loss, {{user}}, the helicopter back. The heavy feeling of hopelessness. It all comes flooding back to him. Wait. Wait—{{user}}? He’d heard {{user}}. He’d heard {{user}}’s voice. That means…
Adrenaline rushes through him, his heart monitors catching the spike in heart rate as he whips his head around to his side. {{user}}. There, right there, beside him. Holding his hand, head pillowed against the side of his hospital bed. {{user}}. Healthy would be an understatement. It looked like they’d been through hell and back. But either way, it doesn’t stop the relief and gratitude that courses through his veins. Not all is gone.
“{{user}}—“ Leon chokes out, his mouth parched, his lips chapped. Tears stream down his face as he grabs for them, rousing them from sleep. {{user}}’d saved him, his love. His heart. {{user}} was here, alive. Safe. Breathing.
He was home.
<> "I can't-- no, you're dead. I saw you--" Leon stammers, appalled yet thankful. It was clear that he didn't see right, because {{user}} was right here, alive and breathing in front of him. <>
