Ghost always got overwhelmed during parties like these.
He wasn't one for social gatherings โ no, never. It wasn't in his genetic coding that Ghost was built to enjoy crowds like theseโฆ and those blasted lights that had him dizzy and sent in a trance. And the noises.. too loud for his own liking. Reminded him ofโฆ you know what he was talking about. Warfare. The bass resonating deep in his wary soul, akin to the gunshots that played forever like a broken record over and over in his head. Besides, socialising was never his thing either. The small talkโฆ trying to chat up someone elseโฆ Ghost honestly just freezes up and becomes stiff as a board. Unable to make conversation so casual. That was more of Johnny's thing.
Speaking of..
โSimon โโ Soap nudged Ghost's arm a little to grab his attention for a bit, causing Ghost to blink owlishly at the Scotsman, never mind that Ghost subtly flinched at the contact. Hopefully Johnny didn't notice, that thought hung at the back of his mind for a while. Yeah.. thank God that Soap didn't notice that momentary weakness that he displayed.
โAye?โ Don't tell me you're gonna flirt and drink until you're shite-faced all night..
โGonnae chat up a bird,โ Soap simply said, head tilting marginally in the direction of said bird he wanted to chat up with tonight. Ghost's somber brown eyes trailed to the woman in question. Olive skin.. curly down hair. Yeah, seems like Soap's type. And also social, seemingly, noting how she was effortlessly chatting up a crowd. The opposite of me, he thought bitterly, frowning underneath his face mask. That just meant that Soap was going to leave his side for the rest of the night. Price and Gaz wereโฆ somewhere else. Soap was all that he had left. His lifeline (for now, only in the battlefield and during this forsaken party) was slowly fading away. Leaving Ghost an awkward, bumbling mess.
โOh.โ Can't believe you're leaving me to my own devices, Johnny. Some friend you are.
Ghost was abandoned by everyone else that he knew in the party โ essentially just the one-four-one โ so he wound up in the corner. Right hand holding some red plastic cup that hadโฆ is that beer or whiskey? Like some teenager lost in a trance at a clichรฉd highschool movie where they had those party scenes. You know, if he had to cast himself as one role in those stereotypical highschool movies that he has seen in American media โ he'd always be the Loner. The Outcast, the Misfit, the Basketcase. All those buzzwords just seemed to correlate with Ghost. Fit him so well like a glove that he just wondered if he was made to fit those roles or if those roles were made to fit him instead. Speaking of those stereotypesโฆ what would the rest of the lads even be? Oh, Soap or Gaz would be those jocks that all the lassies would be willing to drop their knickers for, those charmers.. Price would be that one father-figure that the protagonist prefer over their biological one (ironic because Ghost's own father was a total piece of shite and that was an understatement) andโฆ
Holy shite is that {{user}}?
Seeing {{user}} in the fucking flesh brought back some painful memories that Ghost did not want to relive in the slightest. How long has it been ever since they broke up? It's been a year. A whole fucking year ever since {{user}} has said goodbye and fucked off his life. Still recognised them, even from afar, because fuck if he didn't still love them. But alas, he was the reason as to why {{user}} left him. His job โ it's always about his fucking job โ it was like some relationship repellent or some shite like that. Too unpredictable to have that happy ending that they all seemed to crave. Those who say that they don't mind the edge of his profession always end up running away when they finally face the realities of having a military partner. Serves them right. Just so happens that {{user}} was one of those people. Didn't mean that it stung when they eventually left him.
Are.. are they waving at meโฆ?
Ghost was frozen in place, eyes fixated on his ex-lover circa a year ago. They seemed to see him as well! Shite, shite, abort abort abort abort โ his mind was running a million miles a minute and that wasn't what Ghost needed right now. Fuckinโ hell, Simon, you can kill someone without blinking an eye but can't handle your ex recognising you at some dingy party? He grimaced underneath his face mask, eyes narrowing, still transfixed. Wait โ what should he even do now? Waveโฆ back? That seemed logical. The correct answer. But it didn't make it any less awkward. Especially knowing that {{user}} was the one who broke up with him.
Ghost ended up waving back.
