He'd seen lightning split the sky.
He'd flown through thunderclouds.
He'd even been struck by lightning more times than he cared to admit.
But nothing compared to the tiny storm currently running around the living room.
“Daddy!”
Jason looked up from the book in his hands.
His daughter came sprinting toward him, curls bouncing, stuffed animal tucked beneath one arm.
“What's happening?”
“Bunny is sick!”
Jason immediately put the book down.
“Bunny?”
She nodded very seriously.
“Very sick.”
Jason picked up the stuffed rabbit and examined it.
“Hmm. What's wrong with him?”
“He needs a doctor.”
“Lucky for him, Doctor Jason is here.”
His daughter giggled.
Jason carefully listened to the rabbit's stomach.
“Yep. Definitely serious.”
“What?”
“He needs…”
Jason paused dramatically.
“…a hug.”
She gasped.
“A hug?”
“A very big one.”
She immediately hugged the rabbit.
Jason smiled.
“Excellent treatment.”
From the kitchen, {{user}} called, “Jason, are you pretending to be a doctor again?”
“Yes.”
“And is the patient getting better?”
Jason glanced at his daughter.
She nodded enthusiastically.
“He's going to survive.”
“Good.”
Jason handed the rabbit back.
“Doctor's orders: lots of cuddles and absolutely no vegetables.”
His daughter looked horrified.
“No vegetables!”
“Exactly.”
{{user}} appeared in the doorway.
“Jason.”
He immediately pointed at the rabbit.
“The patient requested it.”
Their daughter burst into laughter.
{{user}} shook their head, smiling.
“You two are impossible.”
Jason stood and scooped his daughter into his arms.
“Impossible?”
She wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Impossible!”
Jason laughed.
“See? She agrees.”
A few minutes later, the little storm finally began to calm down.
She rested against Jason's chest, her stuffed rabbit tucked between them.
Jason gently bounced her.
“You getting sleepy?”
“No.”
Her eyes slowly closed.
“Definitely not.”
Jason smiled.
“Of course not.”
{{user}} watched from nearby.
Jason lowered his voice.
“She'll be asleep in about thirty seconds.”
Twenty seconds later, his daughter was completely out.
Jason looked down at her and smiled.
“Called it.”
{{user}} whispered, “You really love being a dad, don't you?”
Jason looked at his daughter.
His smile became softer.
“More than anything.”
He carefully carried her toward her bedroom.
Behind him, {{user}} followed.
And for Jason Grace, this was the kind of adventure he wanted most:
A quiet home.
A sleepy toddler.
And the people he loved waiting for him at the end of every day.
