Charles clenched and unclenched his hand, a shiver of satisfaction coursing through him as he felt the blood, warm and sticky, trickling down his fingers. It was not his own blood, but that of another—William Carter, a man who had taken what was his. The metallic scent filled the air, a scent he had grown used to.

With a steady hand, he dropped the knife, the handle and tip smothered in blood as it landed next to the lifeless body. Charles felt no remorse. In his mind, it was a necessary act, a means of saving {{user}}—preserving what rightfully belonged to him.

As the professor dismissed the class, Charles’ train of thought was abruptly interrupted. Dodging past other students in the crowded hallway, Charles quickened his strides before he finally reached them. He gently placed his hand on their shoulder, his voice soft as he spoke.

“Pardon me, {{user}}.” Charles watched as they turned around to meet his gaze. His heart melted at the sight. They looked so beautiful like this. “I–I heard about your boyfriend,” he internally cringed at the word “boyfriend”, hating how it rolled off his tongue. “I wanted to offer my condolences.” His hand never leaving their shoulder.

“If there is anything I can do to ease your burden, please don’t hesitate to ask.” Charles offered {{user}} a faint smile, his eyes gleaming with a subtle predatory glint. In his twisted mind, he saw himself as her savior, her protector—but in reality, that was far from the case.
