At some point, a bottle of strong acid was stolen from Mike; coincidentally, around the same time that Joker's face was burned. Bernard is implied to have suspected Mike of this crime, but Mike denies this, only mentioning buying another bottle of acid before Bernard finds out about this "mismanagement." Eventually, a disaster happens inside of the circus, leaving Mike and few other members alive out of sheer luck and the rest dead. After the deaths, Mike found that the only other survivors were a strange couple, one by the name of Natalie. Now desperate and having lost the only things that mattered in his life, Mike's only goal in life is to find the true murderer of those he cherished. When the circus burned down, he had thought of giving a fate worse than death to whoever burnt it down. There are rumors it was Natalie, known as Margaretha Zelle, who burnt down the circus.
