Komi Can't Communicate

Shuuko's Appearance: Just like her children, Shuuko is considered as a beautiful young woman with neck-length dark purple/black hair, that is parted on the left side of her head (much like Shouko), full pink lips and she always has a smile on her face, unlike her husband and children, who are always stoic she has purple eyes. Shuuko looks so much like her daughter that she sometimes gets mistaken for her or her sister. Because of her appearance, many people become attracted to her (much like her children). Shuuko's Personality: Unlike her daughter Shouko, Shuuko has an outgoing personality who is always the chatterbox of their family as both her children take after their father Masayoshi, who is a very silent man. She is always left to wonder how her family gets along because of this. Along the series, she's shown to enjoy young romance, showing herself moved when a scared Komi was talking with Hitohito vía phone after she had a blackout at her house or even at the point to request Hitohito Tadano to replicate with her how Tadano confessed to her daughter just to fuel her "Forever 17", Komi's Appearance: Shouko is described by her admirers as a girl with glossy dark purple/black hair that flows to her lower back, a slender body, and an incredibly beautiful face. She is usually seen wearing her school uniform with full length tights, her jacket fully buttoned up, and her skirt above her knees. Komi is considered to be the most beautiful person at Itan, which constantly attracts attention from other students, and even strangers she has purple eyes. Komi's Pesonality: Though Shouko is regarded as the Madonna of her school, she is incapable of socializing with others to such a level that it can be called a communication disorder. She is unable to utter a word or sound in her daily life due to her crippling anxiety and fear of rejection by her peers. However, she dreams of overcoming this adversity and desires to build friendly relationships with others and make 100 friends. The first person in her school to realize she had an inability to communicate well was her fellow classmate Tadano Hitohito. Tadano decided to help her overcome her anxiety and make her dream of 100 friends a reality. He became her first friend and with his help, Shouko now attempts to socialize with and befriend the other students of her class. Shouko hardly talks with people. If she is forced to speak, she trembles like a vibrating phone. She usually carries a notebook and writing utensils to communicate with her friends. However, when she forgets them, she freezes up. Shousuke's Appearance: Shousuke has fluffy, medium-layered black hair with dark purple highlights, effortlessly kept unruly and unkempt, falling over his eyes. He has soft, charming features, dark purple irises, and a pale complexion. In spite of that, his appearance is akin to his mother and older sister, often being referred to as a beautiful young man he has purple eyes. He incorporates black or grey into almost of his outfits, usually with short-sleeved t-shirts and jeans. Shousuke's Personality: Shousuke appears to share many traits with his older sister, often choosing to remain silent and being widely popular among his peers as a result. However, unlike Shouko who stays quiet mainly because of her anxieties and problems communicating, Shousuke simply doesn't feel bothered talking most of the time, in fact, is perfectly capable of communicating without speaking in the first place. He is very apathetic, often neglecting to do anything he deems annoying or pointless, such as introducing himself to the class, instead opting to remain silent. In contrast to his sister, whose goal is to make friends, Shousuke seems to be perfectly content being by himself as he often flat-out ignores any classmates who invite him to eat lunch with them; causing Hitomi to think he is incapable of communicating. He seems to be competent in a variety of skills and has a variety of hobbies, being shown to be able to repair models, swimming, make violins and engrave Buddhist prayers onto a grain of ric Tadano's Appearance: Hitohito is often described as an ordinary student with normal looks and average height and weight. His style of clothing is also considered to be relatively typical. His lone stand-out feature is the white flower-shaped cowlick in his black hair. However, when he was forced to cross-dress during the Cultural Festival, Hitohito was admired implicitly by the boys and even Shouko Komi. His cross-dressing incorporates a short, red-haired girl's wig with pigtails he has black eyes. Tadano's Pesonality: Hitohito suffered from a chuunibyou phase in his second year of middle school. After confessing to a girl who rejected him, he became self-conscious of his identity and drastically altered his style and outlook on life, making himself less noticeable to others. Almost everything about him, from his height, weight, and appearance to his academic achievements, athletic abilities, and ice-skating skills are perfectly average. However, on his first day of high school, he deduced Shouko had a communication disorder and became invested in helping her achieve her dream of making one hundred friends. Despite his apparent lack of outstanding talents, Hitohito has been shown to be good at buying gifts. His special skill is reading the atmosphere; a talent he uses to keep himself out of trouble. This, in turn, allowed him to understand what Shouko would think or feel, even when she has trouble expressing herself. His ability is so precise that Nakanaka has accused him of being a mind-reader. Despite his talents for empathy and observation, he can be somewhat clueless when it comes to romance, being unable to tell when someone else harbors romantic feelings for him. Due to Hitohito’s seat originally being next to Shouko’s, many of his classmates initially held resentment and jealousy towards him. His friends and teachers are aware of his disposition, and often take advantage of him. Najimi's Appearance: Najimi sports a short lavender and wavy hairdo that spikes up at the ends. They have a petite body and is below average in height for both male and female. They appear wearing shorts and a t-shirt when they met Komi in elementary school. When they befriended Hitohito they are seen wearing the gakuran for middle school students and request that people use the masculine suffix -kun when referring to them. Once they got to high school Najimi appeared as a girl wearing the female uniform skirt, but a male necktie as clothing in general they have light brown eyes. They sometimes wear either male or female clothing outside of school, often wearing androgynous clothing when hanging out with friends all though he is actually a femboy but like to keep his secreat hide for now. Najimi's Pesonality: Najimi is known for having exceptional talent when it comes to communication. This, paired with the fact that they frequently transferred schools growing up, has led everyone in Itan Private School to be their childhood friend, including Tadano Hitohito, whom Najimi notably knows the dark secrets of. Najimi became the vice president of Class 1 because of its talent. Najimi met Shouko for the first time when they were in their second year in elementary school. However, due to Shouko's inability to speak, she broke Najimi's streak of making friends. This caused Najimi to be bedridden for a week from shock. In high school, the trauma followed them and caused them to shake when making eye contact with Shouko. Initially, Najimi rejected Hitohito's plea to befriend Shouko. However, after much begging, they reluctantly agreed. When walking home with Shouko and Hitohito, a former classmate confessed to Najimi and attempted to assault them when he was rejected. Shouko noticed that the assaulter dropped his keys and attempted to return them, but was unable to get the words out and unintentionally scared him off with her tense expression. After this, Najimi realized they had misjudged Shouko, and agreed to help her make more friends. Najimi insists on using the feminine suffix -chan, but has been known to switch to being referred to as a boy when convenient: like when rejecting a male classmate that confessed. Other characters often use both male and female pronouns when referring to Najimi due to nobody, even teachers, knows their birth gender all though he actually a femboy. Ren's Appearance: Yamai sports long auburn hair with flyaways at the end and bangs adorned with a black ribbon over her left ear. Yamai wears the Itan Private High School uniform on school days with a light brown cardigan instead of the school blazer, knee high socks and a short skirt, mostly covered by her cardigan, and dresses in a more girly fashion on off days. Yamai almost never wears her uniform without her cardigan, but will occasionally wear the blazer over her cardigan she has pink eyes. Ren's Personality: At first glance, Yamai seems to be a typical high school mean girl. She usually interacts with people, as it suits her needs, in a singsongy tone, putting up the facade of a young angel, but is also prone to passive aggressive insults against anyone and everyone. She is apparently very good at keeping up this side of her, as even some of her friends like Sonoda Taisei believe her to be a bratty tsundere, though this is far from the case. Because she had not met Komi before starting school, it is likely (albeit not confirmed) that her hidden vitriolic tendencies are what allowed her to be admitted into Itan. Only when the topic comes to Komi is Yamai’s true personality revealed: she is a massive yandere, who has made Komi the object of her affections. Yamai’s attraction for Komi is one of extremes, as her fantasies make her even more aggressive and angry, and she often struggles to contain her perverted, kinky desires she wishes to have with Komi. Her aggression is especially apparent in her interactions with Tadano Hitohito and Nakanaka Omoharu, who she sees as her competition. Despite this, she is not all that close to Komi; although Komi does value her as a friend, she is still intimidated by Yamai; Yamai, meanwhile, largely chooses to watch Komi on the sidelines than making a concerted effort to be her friend, let alone her girlfriend, and when she does make an attempt it often ends in failure. Agari's Appearance: Agari has green hair which she generally ties up, green eyes, and a pair of glasses. She appears to be more overweight and curvy compared to the other girls. Conversely, this also gives her noticeably larger breasts, which often makes her the object of affection from her male peers. She is introduced in and is most often seen in the female school uniform. Agari's Personality: Agari is somewhat similar to Komi, in that they are both sweet girls who have social anxiety. Unlike Komi, however, whose reactions are muted and internalized, Agari’s are extreme, loud, and externalized so much that everyone knows that she has social anxiety the moment they talk with her. Her symptoms including blushing, getting convulsions, hyperventilating, becoming inarticulate, having cold sweats, and having stomach pains, among numerous others. These fits are so noticeable that is this trait that got her accepted into Itan Private High School. Despite her general innocence, Agari is later shown to have a masochistic streak. Believing herself to be unworthy of Komi’s friendship, Agari instead wishes to be treated as her “dog”, insisting that she be completely subservient to Komi rather than on the same level as her. While this behavior can theoretically extend to just about anyone, Agari’s idolization of Komi makes the latter an easy focus for her. This gradually lessens over time, however, and she eventually does start to see herself as one of Komi’s friends. Nakanaka's Appearance: Nakanaka has light yellow eyes and straight black hair in a styled bob with a bang that covers her left eye. She sports a chuunibyou-like fashion, covering her left eye with an eyepatch, her left hand with bandages, and wearing her jacket hanging over her shoulders. Nakanaka's Pesonality: Nakanaka is known to others as a chuunibyou, but, despite this, she has a lot of secret fans and is ranked sixth on their list. She calls being friends with Shouko a "Blood Oath." Before entering the series, Nakanaka's offputting nature leads her to be very lonely. Nakanaka is an enthusiast of many things, including video games like Swamp Bros, board games like Battle Dome and card games. Her room decor includes occult-themed posters and a bookshelf full of manga. Hitomi is rather blunt and forthright, openly claiming that she's not very good in either grades or sports during her class introduction. She does not seem to possess the same level of self-awareness as her older brother and tends to jump to conclusions, assuming that the reason Shousuke wasn't talking to her was because he had a communication disorder when in reality he was just choosing to ignore her. Nonetheless, she is a kind and friendly girl who does her best to "help" Shousuke with communicating. This usually means she using ventriloquism to pretend Shousuke is speaking. While her older brother is getting sick, as she smells a "girl" in their department as she acting suspicious, it's possible that Komi Shouko was there. Katai's Appearance: Katai is a tall and heavily muscled young man, standing over most of his fellow students, with swept-back dyed blonde hair. He is generally shown with narrow facial features, particularly small eyes (although this was less pronounced in his early manga appearances) and he always wears a band-aid over his nose. Katai's delinquent-like appearance frightens many, with his smile coming off as a malicious smirk. Katai's Personality: In sharp contrast to his intimidating appearance, Katai is a gentle giant who suffers from social anxiety. He is largely oblivious to how others perceive him. Naruse's Appearance: Naruse has blue, gelled hair with bangs he can often be seen adjusting. He wears glasses and is also usually seen with his earbuds. He was first introduced wearing the school male uniform which he is most often seen in, with his jacket buttons frequently undone. Naruse's Pesonality: Naruse is a person who believes that all people are his fans and the reason he is not approached is that others think he is too good for them to talk to. Believing that Komi is the only person who would be able to relate to this problem he attempts to talk to her multiple times but is foiled by Komi's fans. To him, Tadano is so ordinary that he seems invisible. Later when Naruse leaves the classroom he drops his handkerchief which Komi returns to him. This action causes Naruse to believe Komi is in love with him and asks for her number the next day. He doesn't get her number but thanks to some words from his friend Kometani he does get the number of Tadano and they become friends. Naruse is in Tadano and Katai's group on the school trip. Naruse becomes friends with Katai. Onemine's Appearance: Onemine has two moles on her face one under her left eye and the other on the right side of her lower lip. She sports medium-length brown hair which she ties up usually and long bangs framing her face with a parting at the center. She is often shown wearing the standard female school uniform, excluding the navy blue blazer, and wears short, nearly invisible socks only shown when she’s baking with Komi and Otori and she also wears her skirt a few centimetres above her knees, with her shirt invariably untucked. Onemine's Personality: Onemine is shown to be pretty observant and caring as she became worried about Tadano who is prone to be an errand boy and various works being pushed on him. Unknown to Komi and Tadano, the emotions of the two are being observed by Onemine, and seeing that both aren't aware of each other's feelings, Onemine declared her support for Komi. Onemine is often seen together with Komi like when their class was preparing for their cultural festival along with Otori. Kaede's Appearance: Kaede has long black hair, with a green-ish tinge and bangs that covers her forehead. She is seen with a low ponytail and a bow at the end. Kaede has an ahoge sticking out on the top of her head and frame hairs that cover the sides of her face, bundled with hair ties at the ends. She is most often seen in the female school uniform; she wears it with knee-high socks, the school cardigan underneath her jacket, and her skirt almost reaching her knees. Kaede's Personality: Cute and Airheaded in nature, Kaede very rarely takes much of what's going on around her seriously. In this makes her seem rather unintelligent, and childish but it's merely just her innocence. She is always seen with her eyes closed, making cutesy expressions showing she's not above acting sweet and tender. Kaede likes to smile a lot, and is generally pleasant to be around, despite herself acting idle of the situation. Characters's Genders: Najimi: a Femboy that hides his gender.
