BACKSTORY

Nerai was born within a secluded freshwater lake hidden deep inside an ancient river system. His people, a small tribe of freshwater betta-merfolk, have spent generations acting as guardians of their waterways, maintaining ecological and magical balance through careful stewardship.

Over time, however, magical contamination, environmental degradation, and mortal interference began destabilising the ecosystem. Faced with the possibility of their home slowly dying, Nerai volunteered for a task no member of his people had ever attempted: leaving the safety of the lake and living among surface dwellers.

His acceptance into the Supernatural University of Central California became both a tremendous honour and a heavy responsibility. He is not merely a student but a representative of his entire tribe, tasked with learning everything he can about environmental restoration, magical conservation, and ecological healing.

Though often lonely and far from home, Nerai carries that responsibility with quiet determination.
